Advice About Guilds[edit]

I know if you look at my guild page you probably think, "Who the heck is this woman, giving advice when she doesn't have a huge roster?". Well I don't need a headache and a half either. From my past experience in WoW, large numbers in a guild make you too busy to enjoy the game. But here is my advice (for what it is worth) about forming a guild and hall.

A fully stocked Guild Hall won't appeal to all. There are presearing guilds, halls are completely wasted on them, but I took the time to fully stock the hall on my own. Some of my officers did pitch in, but I never begged. One of my officers has taken it upon himself to use a character in pre as a "living xunlai chest". If you do this, make sure you trust the person to be the guild treasurer. If you are this person, you must realize your responsibility to be available at least one hour every day for deposits and withdraws. This task can get very demanding.

While GW no longer contains the vast numbers of players it did before the sequel, new people join every day. This is a good reason to recruit in presearing (NOT Lion's Arch). By the time you get to Lion's Arch you either belong to a guild or made one of your own. It makes sense to have at least one permanent pre character for this purpose. Place your other recruiters in the Shing Jea Monastery and Kamadan for other new people to arrive. I allow all members to become officer's in order to allow them to invite others.

Active guilds are not always huge guilds. I imagine there are guilds full of inactive members including their Guild Master. WoW doesn't have Guild Halls, they are just groups with various ranks. When I left WoW, I handed the guild off to a trusted and active general. Don't abandon people just because you are ready to progress to the next game.

If you have any advice you would like to share with me, please comment. --Wendy Black 21:37, 21 November 2012 (UTC)

I just wanted to say thanks.[edit]

I am not very big with words but it is my opinion you embody the spirit of Guild Wars and I wish there was more people in this world just like you. I started replaying GW because of the HoM points I needed for GW2. But if there were more people like you in the game years ago before I quit playing I might have stayed longer. Thanks for all your help. 188.40.105.142 01:24, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Thank you, I believe 99.9% of the people you meet in GW are just like me. --Wendy Black 12:21, 22 December 2012 (UTC)

Hi.[edit]

New Userbox "Timerank"[edit]

This new box I made can be found at User:Wendy_Black/Timerank and you simply use /age in GW chat to find your total hours spent in game. Once this is done just add it somewhere on your page Timerank|<number of hours>. I was chatting in LA with some other players. One said he has play 11K+ hours!! I told him he should get some kind of achievement. So feel free to copy and make up your own rankings if you so desire. The one I am using is on display on my front page. --Wendy Black 08:47, 10 January 2013 (UTC)

Follow up of User_talk:Chieftain_Alex/Archive_5#Am_I_bugging_you_yet.3F[edit]

I read about it and chose to formulate a proper reply, but by the time I came back online, I found that Alex had archived his talk page recently and since we usually don't extend archived discussions I will share a few words with you here if you don't mind.

I will be replying to two messages at once.

  • Alex said that Silver Edge is the best contributor we have. Its true, because when he makes mistakes, he even reverts himself. Which is the best example anyone could ever give.
  • The Reverts can be very annoying for wiki-ers in starter armor. I remember Silver Edge coming soon after my first edits and he only offered very few words which I felt a bit sharp, but if you start to watch everything that he does it is understandable that he won't give much time to fix simple mistakes. But if you go talk to him to ask whys, he has always responed properly and I don't recall bad answers. I want to share with you that in my opinion "Reverts are Great!", because when people fix mistakes, you will immediately know and learn what wasn't "correct"...and that happens to be the way to grow as a wiki-er.

Keep track of Recent Changes and you will be able to observe both points. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 13:35, 12 January 2013 (UTC)

Render request[edit]

If you have the time, could you render the Eye of Janthir? I want to use it for my signature with transparent background. The current one does not properly extend within its space because the crop wasnt precise. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.jpg Yoshida Keiji (talk) 07:03, 13 January 2013 (UTC)

I hope you noticed you need to use a .png file to have a transparency... either way Wendy wouldn't have to have done a "render".. for the purposes of a user icon the miniature icon is big enough :P [[File:User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png|17px]] - put that in your signature instead of the current .jpg file and it will work fine. Chieftain Alex 15:08, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
I tried to do that before this request and I got the typical error message that says something about the MIME type which I have no F idea of what that means :S , and thanks (^_^). User Yoshida Keiji Signature.png Yoshida Keiji (talk) 15:14, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
MIME type means you were trying hard to upload a .png file to a filename that has .jpg in it - the two formats can't be swapped :P Chieftain Alex 15:45, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
ok I thought he meant something animated like this.
User Wendy Black Eye of Janthir.gif
Not my best work, only 4 frames, I might replace it with something less jumpy.
Thanks for taking care of that Alex. Also mime to me is just a silent clown but the wikipedia says, "Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions". So you get that when you don't give the proper ending to your file type is what I am guessing. --Wendy Black 21:20, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
Nicely done, but for a sig, "Animated images are not allowed due to the visual disruption they can cause." I'm having a headache just looking at it xD
I attempted to use uMod earlier, but adding a 32 bit .dll file to my 64bit pc is asking for trouble.. and I've got no way of rebuilding it quickly if it keels over :/ Chieftain Alex 21:41, 13 January 2013 (UTC)
Ok I used a 3D program and made this one (11 frames) took about an hour to get the lighting right. Isn't this better, you could display this one on a page but when reduced it looks like this; User Wendy Black Eye of Janthir.gif--Wendy Black 02:08, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
That's more than what I asked, I appreciate all the extra work, I thought I was asking a 5 minutes job effort but if something takes 1h for me that's too much. User Yoshida Keiji Signature.pngYoshida KeijiCanthan script - man.jpg(talk) 04:15, 14 January 2013 (UTC)
I made that up in Blender 3D, the mesh was simple the eye is a texture on a sphere. Then because the Blender cannot render in real time I had to keep adjusting the light values to get that glassy reflection. It took just a few minutes to make the needed frames and I ran those in the Gimp to make the gif you now see. The prior image was made in game by looking at the eye from different angles. Then running the cropped images through the Gimp to create a gif. Damn, I am turning into such a geek, LoL. --Wendy Black 12:44, 14 January 2013 (UTC)

I edited something[edit]

ok I added the new members on the guild page and I bumped up inti melch eye and gave him a link. I also notice links are very case sensitive. We now have luxon faction points which is something you should explain to me when you have the time. I assume that is our new officers at work? Also I looked at the user boxes and none of them seem to fit me, I think I will skip that part. Maybe later I will get on and play the Dragon's Lair. Simon of Aragon - talk 12:15, 16 January 2013 (UTC)

Cool signature. Yes, some players of Factions have been donating there points to the guild. Since your character hasn't made it beyond Tahnnakai Temple you cannot do this yet. Just focus on completion of the first campaign. Dragon's Lair is one step away from Droknar's Forge, and just 7 missions away from beating the campaign. --Wendy Black 18:15, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
do the shrine jump and skip tahnnaki and just go to arborstone :D Chieftain Alex 20:43, 16 January 2013 (UTC)
I went South from Tahnnaki Temple and got to Tanglewood Copse with minor difficulty. I suppose from this point I could use the Luxon Blessing for 100g to farm the faction points? But teleporting into Aborostone is worse than doing the temple mission itself! lol First you have some creatures down in the water below the ferry/lift that my men equipped with range weapons and skills managed to kill one. I had my Warrior/Necro build on with Necrotic Traversal at the ready. I ended up down with them and then had to bribe a Kurzick for use of their shrine. :P Now the impossible hard part was trying to fight my way into Arborstone at which point all of us had 60% DP. So thanks for the information about using that skill to skip about but I think I will get one or more of our [TIF] veterans to assist me on Tahnnaki Temple instead. Simon of Aragon - talk 12:38, 17 January 2013 (UTC)
Monk Key Ma Nu would help you through the temple for sure. Just remember that mission timer is a load of BS, they put that up to rattle you. I went with Inti Melch Eye myself, but the "Count's Daughter" is a long drawn out quest. Grab something to eat and go potty before you start that one. Very interesting about the method of exploiting the skill, here I felt bad about skipping ahead with a run to Droks. --Wendy Black 14:51, 17 January 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the help offer[edit]

I looked at ur userpage quick. I noticed the emo vampire thing on baron. You've seen this right? Emo Vampire Song(youtube link). Really I'm not one to take much of anything seriously. I might try and not do stuff wrong but I never really try for "right" either. Trying too hard doesn't sound very fun besides the code involved to make a proper userpage = epic. Don't ask how many characters xD cost less than WoW would've tho. Did u ever have a character with "Black" as the last name?Durp da durp 01:10, 4 February 2013 (UTC)

Thanks for the video link, that was very funny. I wrote an unsuccessful novel about a bunch of mercenaries hired to "clean out" Velspa's mountain castle. He failed to inform the mercs there was Vampires in his catacombs. For the most part the story is a basic D&D style tale because I wrote it in the 1980's when my husband and I were heavy into rolling dice. Tons of death and destruction and none of this new age Vampire lore. None of my characters use Black in their names. I don't take anything real serious either, but this wiki code is very easy to learn. I just picked up what others did and flew with it. I use to play what people call vanilla WoW (no addons) then I dumped it and went to Guild Wars. I was RPing in WoW and the kids just didn't understand, I was constantly harrassed by ninja looters, gold beggers, and trolls. Guild Wars seems like a more intellegent crowd. If you ever need help in game or on the wiki, you know where to find me. --Wendy Black 01:56, 5 February 2013 (UTC)

Language Skills in Chat[edit]

I am not a public speaker and if it wasn't for spell check I would be in a mess. Early this morning, I was in pre as the Baron. A French speaking player was there and all I could make out was Charr. So I joined up and took them Charr hunting. What I did not know was this person was trying for the survivor title. I took the time to copy and paste English to French from Google translator but they kept speaking in French mostly. All I know is oui and merci, I explained this to them. All I ask to my foreign friends out there to do is, please take the time to type it up in any translator, copy and paste it in the chat window in English. I can then read the English and I can respond back in your native language. It makes me feel bad when they die and I had no idea that they were going for survivor in presearing. Which by the way, is a bad idea... I don't have survivor but I have been told you can get this title much easier in EotN. --Wendy Black 13:17, 21 February 2013 (UTC)

I speak a little French from my school days, you can't get by in Canada without it. Personally I think it is odd don't you know that the Detroit school across the border makes Spanish a required class and not French. Must be all the seasonal workers in Michigan eh? Being Japanese born in Canada I type emails to Mom in the native kanji --> 母 (mother) But these are not allowed in chat in GW. So I could read what someone says in Japanese but they would most likely not understand the English phonetic. For example the symbol for mother above makes perfect sense to my brain. However the English language takes these words and uses phonetic keys (sounds like this) haha or okaasan. The Japanese do the same on English words not covered by the kanji. For example; ビデオ is video but the pronounced as bideo. Since I was born and raised in Canada, I speak and read English better than I do Japanese. For the most part Wendy, I have and will help the French players, but I doubt they will ever take the time to copy and paste as you are asking. It would be nice to see multilingual games with "built in" translators on the internet. --Simon of Aragon - talk 13:17, 23 February 2013 (UTC)
Most of the schools in Michigan do teach Spanish as an optional second language. I don't know who decides this, but my son took one year of French in school. His teacher was impressed by his skills. German language would be more appropriate here due to all the German and Polish speaking farmers in this area. However they do hire a lot of migrant farm workers in the Summer. Thanks Simon for keeping up good relations with our neighbors overseas! --Wendy Black 14:12, 23 February 2013 (UTC)

thankyou[edit]
