Level Editor(Discussion)

Make it so that players can design their own maps using a Level Editor - allowing them to design anything from Dungeons to Swamp-lands. When players have completed their maps, they can be sent off to ArenaNet so that they can examine it and make corrections. These corrections could be anything like applying drop rates, monster spawns and chest locations. After these corrections, ArenaNet considers every map and can decide whether to add it to the game or not.

Why this is a good idea
  •   It would make this game a more realistic MMO, giving players - not just ANet - the ability to create maps
  •   If there's a type of scenery that you like, but it isn't in the game, then you can make it yourself.
  •   Provides a simple way to add more content to the game than ArenaNet could make with its own resources
  •   Has been done in Saga of Ryzom as Ring2 so its completely possible.
  •   Would make the game last much longer.
  •   Would be a good way to bring in new players to the game since it require the the maps to be run on the clients to not overload the servers, if allowing maps to be run in LAN.
  •   If allowing players to test the maps in LAN or in a battle.net version Anet could easier sort out the good from the bad by going through forums only looking at the very most popular maps to be implemented into the game.
Why it may not work out
  •   The software might be too hard to master for beginners. Since level designing is not an easy process.
  •   There could be many submissions, and it could take a long time for Anet to look through.
  •   This would be hard to store for ANet, as it would take up large chunks of data.
  •   Would have to make maps client based as Anet couldn't possibly store all player created maps.
  •   Producing level design tools at a level of quality that can be released, supported and maintained would be a large burden on development resources
  •   Could postpone the game's release date a couple months, due to all of the extra things Anet will have to put into the game. (could be an after-release update, perhaps?)
  •   Would make Anet have to work a lot harder to make the game.
  •   Doesn't fit to their current selling plan.
