International cultural references

Hmmm...International Cultural References. That would be Cheese, Windmills, Tulips and Wooden shoes? How about Cultural Based Armor? Original & Traditional references mixed in armor sets?

Then again, we have a great history (with some cultural mistakes) with water, the VOC Trading Company, Enormous Sailships, and a special relationship to many main city's in the world. Rembrandt and Vincent van Gogh are our best know Painters. Artwork of great masters in Guild Halls and Halls of Rulers?

And our well know ghostship The Flying Dutchman [1]. --Silverleaf User Silverleaf sig.png 00:28, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

One of my ideas with the flying Dutchman is that this ship will raise with The undead dragon of Orr and the ship will assault the Coast of tyria and will block the way to Elona and Cantha. The Captain could be Fendi Nin and killing him is the goal of one of the quest. --Fox007 User:Fox007 18:16, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Nice idea Ivar PLZ CLICK HERE ^Teo^ 20:15, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Dutch culture? We are such multiculture that we barely have one of our own. Let's see, there's cheese, windmills, tulips (which are originally from Turkey, may I add), wooden shoes, drugs, Heineken, prostitutes, gabber (/hakken), looting foreign countries (VOC etc.), vogeltjesdans, Sinterklaas, (dutch) Carnaval, herring, stamppot, 3 kisses when greeting in stead of 2 and... that's it for me :| As long as they don't introduce jumpstyle, all cultural references are fine with me. Staphorster clothing converted to armor would be nice tho :O (Currently searching for a link to such clothing, but can't find it, anyone else?). BlazeRick 14:03, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Your forgetting our polders and those things standing at the sea (don't know the name in english :)) protecting us from the water. --Fox007 User:Fox007 14:50, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
i saw a show about that on Discovery Channel.. PLZ CLICK HERE ^Teo^ 17:51, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Vogeltjesdans. I might die if I saw that anywhere in GW :P. --fraught · (talk) 17:55, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
Also thought that with the mesmer dance so who cares :P --Fox007 User:Fox007 10:15, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Mesmer's dance is far from the Vogeltjesdans imo. It's definitely Riverdance. And the things protecting us from the water? Dikes (or dykes) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dike_%28construction%29 (sorry, idk how to compress links into words on the Wiki) BlazeRick 19:30, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Ment that Mesmer's Dance (or the riverside dance) is as funny as the vogeltjes dans --Fox007 User:Fox007 21:42, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, it is >< BlazeRick 22:53, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

Well, why didn't i see anything here that refers to Flodder? I'm sure that there ain't a self-respecting dutchman that doesn't know it?

Flodder is for a specific audiance and not really an historical occurance. For instance, I know about it but would not suggest it for GW2. --Silverleaf User Silverleaf sig.png
When I lived in the Netherlands (shortly) one thing that stuck out to me culturally was bike theft. Looking up the 'reported' numbers, there are more bikes stolen in Holland every year than there are bikes in Holland. I personally witnessed at least a half-dozen bike thefts there in about 1-2 months. And it's just sort of accepted. No one even really seems to care. You bike gets stolen? No matter, just steal someone else's. — ( ɔ \ ʇ ) uɐɥʇıǝɹ Reithan Sig.jpg 15:44, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Probebly lived in Amsterdam - rotterdam or Den haag^^ because in Zoetermeer there nearly any thefts of bikes --Fox007 User:Fox007 15:56, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Was near Amsterdam, can't remember the town's name (It's all Dutch to me. :P). But, the statistics I was talking about were national, not just local. — ( ɔ \ ʇ ) uɐɥʇıǝɹ Reithan Sig.jpg 17:10, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Well Amsterdam, Rotterdam and Den haag really krick up the average stolen bikes :) --Fox007 User:Fox007 17:12, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
In that case other country's would be know for other bad reference possibility's. Somehow not really what is expected of us.

Holland; Tulips, Windmills, Wooden shoe's, Cheese, Rembrandt, Vincent van Gogh, Watermanagement, The Flying Dutchman, Huge ancient Sailships.-Silverleaf User Silverleaf sig.png 08:45, 13 March 2008 (UTC)

What about Judge Dee? Each time I'm in Cantha, I can't help thinking of him. Well, maybe it's because I haven't read much else in "Chinese fiction", so I can think only of that, but Van Gulik's novels are so funny. The Haunted Shing Jea Monastery or The Canthan Jade Sea Murders ... I imagine the names of the quests. - MORTUIЯUS 14:02, 5 July 2008 (UTC)

Well, I must say, I would absolutely love to be able to /dance the Vogeltjesdans with my 60-armor Wooden Shoes on my very own Flying Dutchman-mount. :D
Okay, I'll stop the sarcasm now. The Flying Dutchman could make an awesome addition to the Orrian Dragon's Dead Pirate Fleet. What hasn't been mentioned yet is the dutch consensus-politics (much like the wiki, actually), the so called "polder model". Typically dutch, though I do not know how a reference to it could be made in GW2. ContributionsWhy 12:01, 7 August 2008 (UTC)
