Remove Beta Skills from Skills Category[edit]

I just noticed that all the Beta and removed skills are mixed in with the official skills. Was this intentional? I personally find this to be rather annoying, I don't want to see skills I cant use in game unless I'm actually looking for such a thing. Anyways, This is my petition to remove them from the mainstay categories they are currently associated in. If you object to this please state why below. ~ Zero rogue x 11:49, 26 April 2008 (UTC)

Colours[edit]

I thought it might make sense to use the colours from User:BeXoR/Infoboxes on the category page to create a stronger association. It might need cleaning up a bit, but I hope you'll appreciate the idea ;) LordBiro 08:21, 14 April 2007 (EDT)

This page looks so awesome, especially now that the skill box is on. I love it. :D LordBiro 11:19, 20 April 2007 (EDT)
I just reworked this page so that we save a lot automatically generated Paragraph-Tags (<p>) poke | talk 13:31, 24 April 2007 (EDT)

Bugs![edit]

Even though devs may not have the time to comment on bugs found by wiki users, I just wanted to let you guys know that it is very helpful to have a category to store reported bugs. I know that we currently have a bug template and a bug category, but I was wondering if we can put a section on the formatting guide page that instructs users how to use this template/category? I was informed that this information is really helpful to us, so we should try to make it as noticeable as possible :) --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 19:21, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

I'm not sure where this info would be best to place, but informing users of it is definitely a good idea. -- Gem (gem / talk) 21:15, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
I was thinking that it may be valuable to stick a section for bugs on the formatting page. If we created a page under there, we could explain the template, what it does, and how to use it. --UserEmilyDiehlStar.gif Emily Diehl (talk) 21:29, 6 June 2007 (UTC)
I'm too lazy atm so I guess you'll have to. ;P -- Gem (gem / talk) 15:55, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

NPCs by location[edit]

Awhile back I went through the NPCs by location categories and filled in the missing categories in the Factions campaign. I used the NPC location template and made sure there was at least one NPC in each category. I'm not sure if some of the categories are correct. For Unwaking Waters, I ended up having three categories: Unwaking Waters NPCs, Unwaking Waters (Luxon) NPCs, and Unwaking Waters (Kurzick) NPCs. The first one contains NPCs in the explorable area, and the other two contain NPCs from the outposts. I didn't realize it at the time, but I could have used Luxon and Kurzick as the disambig parameter in the NPC location template. Then I believe all the NPCs in the three categories would be in one category. Should the three categories be left as they are or combined as one? This would also apply to Fort Aspenwood, Jade Quarry, and Vizunah Square. Tedium 22:46, 8 June 2007 (UTC)

User:Category[edit]

Might it not make sense to add a link to the Category:Users on this page? It is the category page for the community portal after all. --Lensor 15:57, 12 June 2007 (UTC) Just realised that this page is of course not a subpage to the community portal, even though I came that way. Anyway, still think it could be a good idea to have a link :P --Lensor 15:58, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

add a category for Projectiles?[edit]

If we list Touch skills, we should list them as well. But according to the article, there does not seem to exist a projectile category atm, only Category:Projectile spells. Likely because Category:Projectiles would also list non-skill projectiles, as it's the game mechanic in general. Though i'd suggest to add projectile spells to the skill categories list. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 20:54, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

New Category Box[edit]

I would like to see a new category box on the Index page for all the images and image categories. Maybe something like this:

Of course there are lots more to add to it, this is just a start.--Wyn's Talk page Wynthyst 04:42, 2 June 2008 (UTC)

Small Categories[edit]

Recently I have been looking around for all lore-related pages, and have noticed quite a few categories that have less than 5 articles in them (such as Category: Orr and Category:1,000 Daggers) that are also within another category. Can't these articles just be "bumped" up a category and create a smaller list of categories? It's not that there are too many, but it would make searching via categories less of a hassle by not having so many sub-categories. And slightly still on topic, I have noticed articles that are in sub-categories and are in the larger categories. Can those articles be removed from one of the two categories (if the sub-category is small, than remove from the sub, if it's large enough to justify it being there, than from the larger category)? If yes to either of these, I'll get to moving some categories around in the Category: Lore and Category: lore stubs and any sub-categories. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 02:58, 16 April 2009 (UTC)

The category and subcategory structure is meant to make it easier to find information. Small categories are not a problem. The problem is when categories are created without thought to which primary category they should belong to. The new category tree extension makes category searching much easier than it was previously as you can simply find primary categories to see their subcategories. As for article categorization, they should only be listed in the specific subcategory not the sub and primary category in the same tree. In your example, the Category:lore stubs should not be a sub category of Category:Lore and in fact it isn't, it should be a subcategory of Category:Stubs and in fact it is, so the page would be appropriately categorized in both Lore and Lore stubs. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:21, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Hmm, ok I see. Where is the "category tree" located may I ask? I've never even heard of it - if it is an actual page and not just the system of categories and sub-categories. And I didn't give an example for articles being in a primary category and a sub-category (the lore-stub thing is just one of two categories I've been looking at - other being the Lore category). If I see pages in primary and sub-categories, than I'll remove it from the primary. I just kind of find categories with only two things in it useless, but I see that's my own opinion and as such, won't take action regarding that. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 05:43, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Ok, for example if you look at the primary image category Category:Lore, you will see the list of all the subcategories. to the left of each subcategory is a + and to the right is a (number). If the number is anything but a zero there are subcategories of that subcategory, you can simply click on the + to see what they are. This is the category tree. In a perfectly organized world a primary category like Lore would not have any actual articles listed other than the Lore article that defines what Lore is. Each lore article should fall into at least one of the subcategories. Some articles might be appropriately placed in several of the subcategories. Lore however is Gordon's domain, and I haven't dealt with it much. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 05:58, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
So before tampering around there, I should ask him first? >_> And thanks for explaining the tree thing to me. I never checked what the plus was for (clicked the name instead all the time). I think I'm guilty of making the Lore Category a little farther from the "perfectly organized world." Last question (I hope) as this came to me with your explanation. If there is a category that is a sub of two different categories, and those two categories eventually go to the same primary category, what would be the protocol? Removing one of the category links inbetween, or keeping the sub-category in two different routes? And thanks for your time with this (wiki gets confusing! >_>) -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 06:39, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
It's fine if they go to the same primary, think of categories as search tools. Not every article will fit in just one category. In fact, very few will. You may want to just drop Gordon a note on his talk page to see what the intended structure is of the lore category/subcategories, I don't know if there is a "master plan". I work mostly with image categorization and lately I've been working on the user templates. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 06:48, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
BTW... everyone has slightly different organizational ideals, so never apologize for doing something you feel would make things better. Categories can be very confusing for anyone because many people don't really understand how they work. It took me forever. --Wyn's Talk page Wyn 06:54, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I shall drop Gorden a message. Thank you for your help Wyn. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 07:02, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
I want lore articles to be detailed and accurate, as long as the categories are easy to navigate, I'm not concerned with the specifics of the categorization scheme. -- User Gordon Ecker sig.png Gordon Ecker (talk) 07:44, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
Than we have similar goals. Good to hear. I think I'll first work on the articles themselves, than the orginazation/categories. Edit: A few days ago I started this temporary list (this list is for once the reworking is done) for all lore related articles. If you know of articles pertaining to lore that I missed, feel free to add them so that I can look over all articles. It's a personal peeve that I dislike inaccurate info regarding lore. -- Azazel The Assassin\talk 07:46, 16 April 2009 (UTC)
