The Engineered Plague Hive is part of the [TEP] alliance led by The Engineered Plague. The alliance consists of 10 guilds and is an online community comprised of gamers ranging through all ages, races, religions and genders from all over the globe. [TEPH] was created and joined the [TEP] alliance on 29. March 2007.

The majority of The Engineered Plague Hive's members are mainly engaged in PvE activities, but this in no way excludes PvP events such as Alliance Battles or scrimmages. X-Fire is used throughout our alliance. Members, and officers in particular, are encouraged to offer in game help across the TEP alliance to create a friendly and helpful environment.

The Engineered Plague Hive welcomes all adventurers to become infected...*cough* sorry *cough*...join our guild, or any guild which is part of the TEP alliance. We strive to have a full guild at all times, so please do not be deterred in case we're full as we have lots of other guilds ready to take you in.

History

Leadership of Darren

TEPH was created by Darren and Oberon Blue. The first leader was Oberon, but he later decided to make Darren the leader because he thought Darren would be more suitable.

The guild proceeded to have its ups and downs, with faction ranging from 100.000 to 1.000.000. Events were organised throughout most of the early guild history. Darren and The Viss, long time member and officer of TEPH, tried to keep TEPH active. They aided Adornay, leader of the TEP alliance and guild, as much as possible to keep the alliance in good shape.

For a period Me Shez B took charge of the guild, but later made Darren the leader again. Darren then took a short period of leave in which The Viss was assigned leadership. Darren was once again assigned leadership when he returned.

Finally, having been the major leader of the TEPH guild since its creation at the end of March 2007, Darren left the guild definitely around the middle of November 2007 due to not being able to play Guild Wars any longer. In his stead, The Viss was assigned leadership.

Internal fighting and the council meeting

When The Viss took charge of the guild, its activity had decreased, and continued to decrease, sharply. From being a completely full guild with no members having more inactivity than 3 weeks, the guild was now losing members and had many members with months of inactivity. As The Viss continued his leadership of TEPH he tried to keep up the activity, calling for recruitment and faction farming. This measure was mostly ineffective.

At the beginning of December 2007, Adornay received complaints of swearing both from within the alliance and from the parent of a 9-year-old alliance member. Swearing is not allowed according to alliance policy. In order to identify the swearing members, he formed a council of alliance members who were to observe alliance chat and report any offenders. Adornay himself started observing, and at one point came to a confrontation with several offenders. After an initial argument, he proceeded to kick TEPH, TEPR and TEPF all of which had offending members.

The offending members then conceded to abide by the rules and the guilds rejoined the alliance.

In reaction to this episode The Viss called for a council meeting of all important members in the TEP guild hall. During the meeting, two of the alliance policies were called into question by members:

  • The no swearing policy. Some members argued that the no swearing policy was redundant, as Guild Wars had a build in chat filter which could be switched on as desired. They also argued that the 9-year-old who fell victim to swearing shouldn't be playing in the first place, as Guild Wars had a rating of 12+. Finally they accused Adornay of having personally made up the rule. Supporters of the policy responded by arguing that the policy was in fact in accordance with the Guild Wars User Agreement which also had a no swearing and profanity policy. Furthermore they argued that 9-year-olds did in fact play the game regardless of the rating, and that the rule had been in place long before TEP had even migrated to Guild Wars.
  • The cape policy. Some members complained about the policy of TEP officers being forced to wear the TEP cape.

At the end of the meeting Adornay decided once again to kick TEPF and TEPH from the TEP alliance. He also accidentally kicked TEPR in the process.

Around the 15. December 2007 the offending members, including The Viss, handed back the guilds to the alliance and instead made their own guild, The Plague Rebellion [care], with another cape design and a free swearing policy.

The Viss left TEPH because of numerous reasons. First of all, he was in disagreement with the no swearing policy of TEP. He thought it was okay to swear as long as it didn't hurt anyone. Second, The Viss didn't feel the alliance was supportive enough in his attempts to make TEPH more active. Some of his recruitment work was reportedly negated, as Spearmarshall Rhys, a member of the TEPF guild, had been spreading a "bad mood" and coercing at least one TEPH member to leave the guild. Spearmarshall Rhys later joined The Viss in the creation of The Plague Rebellion.

Leadership change

The Viss left Nika Lightbringster, long time officer of TEPH, in charge of TEPH. Nika Lightbringster did not want to lead though, and instead designated Josse The Dark as leader.

As Josse took charge, he proceeded to purge the guild of all members having an inactivity of a month or more, thereby reducing the amount of members to 43. He also called for more officers and more recruitment.

On January 19, 2008, Josse The Dark stepped down as leader of TEPH citing a lack of time. Zukon Pyron was assigned leadership and pledged to make the guild more active.
