Talk:Canthan New Year 2012
Common knowledge[edit]
This page is stating information that is all common knowledge. It should remain, and be updated more as we learn more. perhaps using the template for a CNY page. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Gilliam Bluestaff (talk • contribs) at 02:37, 6 April 2011 (UTC).
- I'm guessing it will be updated as soon as the official event announcement confirms it. They usually post a news update on GuildWars.com to announce the festivities, and that will probably include much of the same information as it did last year. Still, I don't see a pressing need to post what is (technically) just our assumption when we'll soon have information to confirm it. If someone's really that interested in what recent years have been like, they can always click the links and find out. --RoyHarmon 13:02, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- Check the date stamp for that comment. The user was referring to the deletion of the article on 6 April 2011. --Silver Edge 05:44, 29 January 2012 (UTC)
Updates we hope it coincides with[edit]
Admit that it would be slightly fun to have a raging celestial dragon striking down the ministry of purity. File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 14:01, 24 January 2012 (UTC)
Event moved?[edit]
Why isn´t Canthan Newyear 2012 the following weekend after Chinese Newyear, as i recall it used to? /Sivard [Dane]
- I assume they have alot of stuff going on with the GW2 Beta and such. They are probably getting to it all in the best way that they can.Ghostlymass 01:06, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- I wonder that myself and thought no one else cared (T.T). I wonder how the canthan festivals will reflect the 'WoC' changes. -Wrei110.175.241.56 01:10, 26 January 2012 (UTC)
- From the reference on the page: "The current plan for the Live Team is to run the Canthan New Year festival in early February. I can't confirm the exact dates at this point due to the weather disruptions, but we'll update you as soon as we can." --Silver Edge 02:56, 26 January 2012 (UTC)

I don't know if it's official but what I've been hearing in-game is that they wanted to space out events. If they'd timed it to match Chinese New Year it'd be too close to the Wintersday event. Lots of people like to make a special effort to be online for events, but that gets awkward when they're close together (family gets pissed off if every weekend you "have" to play GW). 109.150.172.234 10:33, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- If I had to guess, I'd say it's the "weather disruptions." ArenaNet is based in Seattle, and they had a significant snowfall last week. From what I understand, Seattle is the kind of place where a little snow goes a long way toward making transportation difficult, and many businesses were closed because of it. --RoyHarmon 11:05, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
Mini Celestial Dragon[edit]
*begins staring at the computer screen intently, waiting...* [ Tyloric ] [ Talk ] 20:35, 27 January 2012 (UTC)
- 's not like you've never seen him. (Tahmu) Wonder if this will raise or lower the price of Kuunavang since many, if not most, will have a mini celestial dragon. -- Magic Talk 05:50, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- Hehe, I started waiting as soon as I realised I wasn't going to get a polar bear. I'm not convinced it'll affect the price of Kuunavang personally. If people just want a cool mini dragon they might go for the celestial but a lot of people like Kunnavang for the rarity and the fact that it's not a mini you can get in-game. Also most people automatically expect to charge/pay more for greens. 109.150.172.234 09:48, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
- They could use a different model, like glint's or one of her Facet's. The only thing about those models are that they're not very Chinese looking like the Kuunavang. Titan Crow 11:43, 28 January 2012 (UTC)

Community Relations[edit]
Good job on getting the word out this early! Sardaukar 06:04, 28 January 2012 (UTC)
Turned in Dragons[edit]
"If no successful dishes were created, players will be temporarily turned into Dragons."- This is a punishment how? --MageMontu 15:31, 30 January 2012 (UTC)
- I was wondering that. I usually try to find a virtually empty dist for one of the finales just because it's fun being turned into an animal, but this year it sounds even better. 109.150.172.234 12:03, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
guild hosting districts[edit]
Are there any lists of what guilds are going to be hosting which districts, for the feast, as I would like to make a clam for international district 10 for ghostly goolies guild [GGG]--Mistwarden 16:26, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, go to Guild Wars Guru in the Community Events section, and there is a thread with the list. *Malganis Frostmourn* 12.106.72.10 17:46, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
Celestial Rabbit of Caerbannog[edit]
Anyone else noticed that the login announcements mention the Year of the rabbit, not dragon? Sounds like the dragon has some competition. 69.249.223.63 19:26, 31 January 2012 (UTC)
- It doesn't - at least not now. Perhaps they fixed it? --Combatter 13:15, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
- Yep, it's fixed now. Strange.69.249.223.63 16:42, 1 February 2012 (UTC)
Tyria & Elona[edit]
I never really understood why IN Tyria & Elona they celebrate with minor festivities the Canthan New Year & the Dragon Festival while Cantha does not celebrate the minor festivities of Halloween & Wintersday festivities. --MageMontu 08:25, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- That's because Canthan people are racists. 78.92.2.198 11:28, 4 February 2012 (UTC)
Bonesnap Shells[edit]
It appears for characters that have removed the Afflicted through the new Winds of Change campaign that finding a Bonesnap Turtle so that one can gain a Bonesnap Shell for the Main Course is impossible since Bonesnap Turtles only reside in Haiju Lagoon and are replaced by Scavengers.
This really chaps my hide. I really don't want to start another character and go through the motions just for one dang item in the list. I was happily farming the items for the event until now. "Bummer" would be an understatement for me. AngrytheKid 09:09, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- pm me ingame, Pastafarian Legend. I might be able to help you out. 94.212.57.91 11:40, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
- Thank you kindly. But I hired someone in Zen Daijun to go farm them for me. =D I'm very glad he did. Very nice fellow. He asked only to invite him to the district I'll use for em'. Gave him 5k anyways. AngrytheKid 15:03, 2 February 2012 (UTC)
Victory Token collectors[edit]
Anyone know why there are Victory Token collectors in Shing Jea Monastery when there is no way to obtain Victory Tokens during this festival? --Combatter 14:54, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- Kao Tseng will exchange Festival Tokens for Festival Prizes, which have a chance of dropping Victory Tokens. -- Hong 15:09, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
Quest guide[edit]
I just wrote a guide on doing the quests for the festival as quickly as possible. It can be found here: User:Combatter/Guide_to_Canthan_New_Year_quests. Hope people find it useful. Please feel free to make changes/improve it. --Combatter 20:58, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- I'd say it's pretty good, since that's how I do it on my characters. Good job Gaudy Gourd God 21:29, 3 February 2012 (UTC)
- It may be worth mentioning that it's possible to farm each quest item (Box of sparklers, Dye crate, Kappa shell etc) on one character multiple times if you put each item in storage after it's collected. You can then just pick up one of each item for your alt characters and finish off most the quests very quickly. 72.197.206.165 08:48, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
Event Finale Bugged Again[edit]
Just been in district 28 with two separate characters for the 8 and 11 finales. One character received 2 red gift bags and a mask each time, whilst the other received the full compliment of 5 celestial summoning stones, 16 red gift bags plus the mask each time. I guess it will be redux time next weekend.Buffy Slaying Dragon 11:56, 5 February 2012 (UTC)
Collectors[edit]
How long do the collectors hang around after the event? 76.253.0.17 13:23, 6 February 2012 (UTC)
