Core cinematics[edit]

HA's Ghostly Hero rants are the only core cinematics, aren't they? —ZerphatalkThe Improver 08:21, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Probably. I've been thinking, but I can't think of any more core cinematics. -ContributionsWhy 10:38, 30 July 2008 (UTC)
Just came to think of it, GvG-matches start with a cinematic. There's even a ghostly hero-like voice telling you: "This base belongs to our party. Destroy anyone who stands in our path." I think one article is enough for that. ContributionsWhy 18:35, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Not a bad idea — Seru User Seru Sig2.png Talk 19:38, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Minions[edit]

the second note states that minions don't lose health during cinematics. Is this really true? Maybe i'm wrong, but i could actually remember that some of my hero's minions once died during a faction mission cinematic. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 08:24, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

There was an update awhile ago that freezes everyone's health during cinematics, including minions. I've had cinematics where minions would attack random NPCs for the duration which was always amusing, and of course Vizunah Square where they will turn on you after Shiro kills the players. But yeah, it wasn't always like that, so maybe you're remembering an incident before the update. I personally haven't seen minions die during cinematics for a long time now. That Sounds Risky | 08:55, 27 July 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, that was quite funny, i heard them dieing in the background, and sometimes also falling behind the party leader. But the page still says they would attack others. I can remember that they once attacked the Hunger for example, but idk whether that's still the case. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 12:59, 1 August 2008 (UTC)

Voice Bug[edit]

Occationaly a Female Character will use a Male's Voice (and vis versa) Treesbyty 18:12, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I haven't seen that, but i can see it being possible. — Seru User Seru Sig2.png Talk 18:16, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I've also had this, during unwaking waters it was, however it's pretty hard to prove it since screenies can't talk. A male character was leading the mission but at the end the cutscene used my paragon's voice, other party members noticed it too.Muesli 12:11, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Yeah seen this in a lot of cinematics. Our poor little guildie (female char) was nicknamed Transvestite cause of that :P --MageUser MageMontu sig.pngMontu 12:15, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Huh. Never seen this. Could someone provide the steps to recreate? Backsword 12:19, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
Always happens to me at the end of Vizunah Square, on female characters. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 16:50, 29 September 2008 (UTC)
I have made a video that shows some bugs in Cinematics. Here is the link. [1] Treesbyty 01:26, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

I added your video to the Vizunah Square (cinematics) article :) WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 12:29, 26 November 2008 (UTC)

This has happened to me and a friend at unwaking waters(kurz side). Had a couple laughs over it. 216.119.178.127 12:14, 2 January 2009 (UTC)
Once my male chacter had Pyre's voice man it was funny. --74.176.227.22 05:14, 15 August 2010 (UTC)User:Blackhorns

[2][edit]

That's only in Vizunah Square (cinematics), right? I might have missed something, but if that is the only occurrence, I don't really see a point in listing it on the main cinematic page.. And good to see you around Seru :) WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 01:26, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Its been pointed out in more than one. Id rather have it listed there, because its likely an annomily that can occur anywhere. — Seru User Seru Sig2.png Talk 05:50, 3 January 2009 (UTC)

Upload cinematics?[edit]

Do you think that it would be possible to upload every cinematics, so you would be able to watch them at any time, and not only by redoing a mission just to see a cinematic you missed? lat 21:46, 13 February 2009 (UTC)

That would be luverly =) But it would likely cause bandwidth issues on the Wiki. Anyways, i wouldn't need it, because i have every Cinematic on my Harddisk allready =) Lukasn (talk|contribs) 21:55, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) I guess it is technically possible, but not legally. As far as I know we can't really upload film on this site, and uploading them on youtube would, I think, be copyright infringement. I might be wrong though, User:Indochine should know more about it. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 21:59, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
How do you get them on your Hard Disk then? I would love to see the movies again, but I don't want to play the missions again, definitely not those of Nightfall. I don't like the campaingn somehow, tho I want to look at the cinematics again. And just reading its tekst isn't really nice. F. C. Sauër 21:26, 25 February 2010 (UTC)
If you say in the note that all rights belong to Anet and give credit etc then it should be ok right? I was thinking about uploading them, but wanted to get the wiki's say so first :P Where can we find out if it's ok? I'm not happy with spending loads of time and effort and getting sued for it xD Chibot2000 01:55, 14 March 2010 (UTC)

Mission Time[edit]

Do middle/end cutscenes count towards the mission time? 87.194.249.85 10:10, 5 May 2009 (UTC)

I think they did but I believed that was fixed.. not sure though, might as well skip them if you're going for masters. WhyUser talk:Why Are We Fighting 19:10, 5 May 2009 (UTC)
I know in the Great Northern Wall mission in Prophecies the mid cutscene uses time that you could spend running from the Charr. Skipping it will give you a headstart but won't affect the timer, which starts when the cutscene ends. If timers are active when a cutscene begins, I'd recommend skipping it JIC. Kickback 21:16, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

I may just be crazy but...[edit]

Am I the only one who remembers a time where you could see the names of NPCs when in a cinematic? I can't for the life of me find any evidence of it but I distictly remember being able to hold ctrl and alt and see the names of the NPCs way back when. PariahUser Pariah Pariahmoa.pngtalk 04:48, 1 July 2010 (UTC)

I fear I wasn't around back then. Anyone else? WhyUser talk:Why 11:26, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
I never thought to try that before...was always clicking "skip" instead...X ip 11:55, 1 July 2010 (UTC)
I also seem to remember the characters not moving their mouths durning the cinematics. I only started playing shotrly after Nightfall came out, so I dunno if I"m just crazy and noticed the mouths moving later or it got changed or what.--Will Greyhawk 04:46, 14 March 2011 (UTC)
This is true. They added mouth movements post-release, but I can't remember when it was. You're right though; originally, there were no mouth animations at all. Fallen Angel Eyes 09:25, 20 April 2011 (UTC)
Wasn't mouth movement implemented as late as the Nightfall release? WhyUser talk:Why 15:21, 21 April 2011 (UTC)
I thought it was part of the factions release but i could be wrong.--TahiriVeila 15:25, 21 April 2011 (UTC)

Replay[edit]

I can't find any NPC to replay cinematics for me, in Nightfall. How about a list of them? YonaLee 14:13, 27 March 2011 (UTC)

Gw cinematics suck![edit]

Instead of doing a whole random bunch of stuff for the 6th anniversary, they should have remade the cinematics. Seriously, they are laughable. That a proffesional team of dozens of people produces cinematics of this quality... 70% of them is just choppy camera movement, for the rest it is your party talking to people without you being to hear what they say because the minions are screaming through it. The minions (and spirits) anet didnt even considere removing when a cinematic plays. And dont let me get started on fighting scenes.... Except eotn, they all look like they were made by a 13 year old first working with the Guild Wars World Editor. Amen. -- Magamdy 08:52, 7 June 2011 (UTC)

I love the game and the storyline is great, but I have to totally agree with you on this point. It sucks that they're forced to use an in-game render because of the armor and whatnot, but they could have done better than that. Hopefully we'll see more than that comic-book style of cinematic they're showing off for Guild Wars 2, because that's going to get really annoying really fast.
As for GW1, I doubt we'll see any more improvements to the game engine at all just because only the Live team is working on it, as much as I'd like to see it change. It's really sad (not in that sarcastic manner) that Anet hasn't been able to refine the engine as much as Blizzard has with WoW over it's 7 year life, but I'll take the good with the bad considering, all gameplay aside, how much better the GW rendering engine is. All we can do now is hope and pray that GW2 will actually blow us away like they say it will. ~FarloUser Farlo Triad.pngTalk 09:34, 7 June 2011 (UTC)
You know that since the cinematics are generated in real-time you can get cartography points from them, especially from some of the Factions ones...so no, they don't need to be redone, improved maybe, such as modified mouth movement and not the "puppet" open/close animation.

Added screenshot[edit]

It's kinda silly that an article about GW's visuals has a glitched screenshot as its only pic. -- Hong 19:38, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

There shouldn't be any spoiler issues with the shot I've added, seeing as how destroyers are among the first things you fight on starting EotN. -- Hong 19:38, 25 June 2011 (UTC)

Pet Talking!?[edit]

I was at the end cinematic of Vizunah Square and instead of a player talking and engaging with the envoys can someone please explain? Hat The Heck 01:22, 14 July 2011 (UTC)

Mission/quest completion[edit]

If you disconnect/leave during the ending cinematic, will you still get completion credit?

  • Yes but you might not be transfered to the next outpost 217.122.183.107 00:44, 11 November 2011 (UTC)
