Has anyone seen these?[edit]

Has anyone seen more of those items introduced in GW:EN? I'm wondering if they have been implemented or not, and if they have been implemented or if, like a few entries of the previous contest, they were hidden around the world. Erasculio 13:27, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

I am keeping my eye out as best I can, if we get to a stage where there are still a few missing I will bug Gaile about it :) but I think it is to early to count our chickens yet. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 16:00, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

When can we expect weapons from Design-a-Weapon (2007) contest?[edit]

moved from User Talk:Gaile Gray

I'm pretty sure that I saw a similar topic here once before however I am unable ti find it in the archives, so I would be very grateful for a redirect or a quick answer.--78.3.39.136 07:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC)

Here's a link to comments made a month or two ago. And yes, obviously, the weapons were not added "that month" as originally planned. A few other things got in the way, like adding to the Canthan New Year, working on Guild Wars 2, etc.
The most up-to-date information that I have -- current as of today -- is that we truly do want to get these wonderful items into the game, and we're ready to do so. That is, all art is created, and it's just a matter of scheduling their release. We have a couple of other cool plans, too, and so what I'm thinking will happen is that we'll see one batch get into the game in the not-too-distant future, and then another a while from then, perhaps a few weeks or a month later. I'm not sure if we'll news post this on the website, put in an in-game message, add a Dev Update to the Wiki, make forum posts, or just let them be discovered. (Yes, I know the latter is sneaky, but you have to admit, it would be pretty cool to open a chest or get a boss drop and go "Wait a minute! That's a brand new item!"
As I know more, I'll share more. Or not. *evil grin* -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 07:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
"or just let them be discovered. (Yes, I know the latter is sneaky, but you have to admit, it would be pretty cool to open a chest or get a boss drop and go "Wait a minute! That's a brand new item!"" Actually that would be rather annoying. However, making an ingame announcement would be best as it accomplish several things: 1) It lets every one know about it, not just the ones who go to the forums or Wikis or Offical Site. 2) In letting everyone know about the weapons it will encurage everyone to play to hunt them down, especially if players can fully mod them rather than them being stuck with bad mods requiring niche build requirements like what happened with the Tattered/Forgotten/Frozen Fans. Remember when the items like the Totem Axe and rest where implimented and how much fun people had hunting them down? (Jade Sword still needs a higher drop rate. :p ) Though it'd also be best to tell how many new skins are added to each continent if you don't list exactly what was added and where. Also doing the caster items like the Hourglass Staff in any caster primary meets the requirement or making one for each profession's primary would be great as well. All in all to make them really wanted players need to be able to fully mod them to make them useful. ~ User:Sabastian Sabastian 10:10, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
From a documenter's point of view, just adding them in without an announcement would be very irritating. :P - Bex User BeXoR sig.gif 10:12, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
I would like to make one request, please dont make them into greens!!! PLEASE!!!! Their are some excellent skins going to waste just cause they can only be found on greens with poo mods. Inscribable = FTW! Just in the same way that making the bonus weapons inscribable and max dmg would also = ftw! -- Salome 15:29, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
wow the bone dragon staff was sexy as hell, can u add it among the first on like a warrior boss that i can solo farm fast outside a town? --Cursed Angel talk 15:40, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
As Sabastian said about the Hourglass Staff, I would love to be able to get the opportunity to get an item with stats similar to the Chimeric Prism, but I know that I will certainly be looking for that Shield to add to my collection needless of it's stats! --The Great Tomato The Great Tomato 15:54, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Speaking as opinion, for I have not checked on this, I personally expect these items will have a variety of attributes and requirements. I don't expect that all will be perfect weapons with full modability. I would anticipate that some may be greens, some golds, a few may be other types, as well. Some may drop in combat; others might be end-mission/quest rewards, such as randomly-generated chest items like Mallyx items or that sort of thing.
I know it's tempting to say "Make them all this or that" or to ask that they each be top-end, but in fact I highly doubt the design team intends to roll out every winning weapon at the highest possible stat. All will be known pretty soon. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:06, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
" in fact I highly doubt the design team intends to roll out every winning weapon at the highest possible stat." Then why add them if they aren't going to usuable to people? Look at weapons from the contest with the Totem Axe, Frozen/Tattered/Forgotten Fan, Rotwing Recurve Bow, Ice Breaker, and Ungues of the Oni. Only Totem Axe and Rotwing Recurve Bow where ever used and wanted. If the items can't be used in more than just one or two gimmick builds then people won't want them which means yet more nice skins go to waste in the game. So why add more skins with the intent of making them unwanted again? ~ User:Sabastian Sabastian 20:11, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
Excellent point, there are so many awesome looking weapon skins in the game that you can never use because the stats are either so horrid or so out-of-date that they just aren't practical when compaired to uglier weapons with better stats. If they don't make the new weapons available with max damage and inscribable, then why even put them in the game, because they won't be used. Innocent Depravity 01:57, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
I feel tingly inside with excitement!
So maybe they will appear on 3rd GW b-day? ;p --Just One More Thing 19:10, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Rather than make them random drops, how about a series of quests to forge or create them. Not only would they reduce frustration it would be a lot of fun. The black moa chick quests are regarded by many as a great way to obtain special items. A forge a weapon quest would not only be a welcome change but would also add an element of mystery to the weapons as opposed to blind luck Shan 10:10GMT 25th Feb 2008
While not fond of the Black Moa quest that is a good idea though. Just don't make them as costly to make as the Black Moa is to make so more people can enjoy them as well as have them be fully inscribable. ~ User:Sabastian Sabastian 20:14, 24 February 2008 (UTC)

I would really like to see some scavenger quests added, where you have to travel far and whide, and do a number of things. My character has done all but 4 quests, and I am running out of content, goals if you will. Scavenger hunts would add a few new goals. I personally don't just want to get an item in a random drop.....I want to work for it. .....Perhaps even something so difficult as collecting a customized itme at the end of each elite area at endgames. Then combining all of the items into one to "forge" an amazing weapon. Med Luvin 15:46, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

That would take a good amount of time and programming instead of just adding it as a drop from a monster. Theyll need to add npcs or edit current ones, perhaps quest items, the list goes on. I don't want them to work too hard while working on GW2, I want GW2 to be able to be worked on as much as they want before releasing it. I'm fine with just a drop from a monster. Hopefully they will revive the scribe though, and use an issue to introduce the new weapons like I had hoped below. Ajc2123

Ok we've waited a while and finnally they have posted that they are coming :D i wonder what ones they will be? --86.154.34.211 20:38, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

I think it would be awesome if, when you found a new weapon and identified it, you got a message that said "You've unlocked the Demonic Aegis, one of the winning entires of the 2007 Design-a-Weapon contest!"--ChristopherRodrigues 22:06, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

Hourglass Staff[edit]

Shouldn't the Hourglass Staff be included somewhere on this page even if it wasn't a finalist? It was one of the entries in the contest according to the Eye of the North pre-release page. | ThatSounds Risky | 07:16, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Yes! That item absolutely should be on this page. I tried to add it, but I made the table all woogly, so I reverted. :) The information is this:
I would amend the name of the section to "Finalists and others of note" for Bora's art was not actually listed as a Finalist, back in the day, but that art was specifically sought and found through another search of the entries after the judging. (Don't worry, we sent him very nice gifts, too!) :) -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 19:11, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok so I added it but it appears there isn't a template for turkey? Turkish flag.png Turkey
<- See D: I guess I can't spell it works now --74.61.209.219 19:21, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes, while you were adding the information I went out and grabbed an image of the Turkish flag and put together the template for it, so it should all be working now. | ThatSounds Risky | 19:26, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Aye I originally made the flag templates, and only made them as and when they were needed. Didn't really fancy making a couple of hundred for every country ;) --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 21:56, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I think I can understand why you might not want to dedicate the hours to finding every flag in the world, Lemming. :) Thanks for making that contribution -- it's really a nice way to spiffy up the pages! -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:45, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Design-a-Weapon contest weapons[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

Can they also be put into the Hall of Monuments? (like the destroyer weapons?). They are epic enough for that... Nicky Silverstar 13:25, 19 March 2008 (UTC)

It Would be Nice If I can put my Tormented Longbow and my Zodiac Longbow in my halls just to see it in GW2 as a trophy. Gaile Will Anet Change what can but put up in the Halls of Monuments in the Near future? --Mithos Agar 14:26, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I think thats been answered as - we have no plans to implement that at this time. ie no. -elviondale (tahlk) 16:44, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Elviondale is right, but personally i think the tormented and zodiac set should definitely be included in the HoM as personally i really dont like the destroyer set! -- Salome User salome sig.png 17:47, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
I personally have been asking for them to change it since it was released, but they stone-walled the community on that front, for whatever reason (lets hope it was a good one), to change it now is now an insult to those who have gone out of their way to get the destroyer weapons, even as disappointing as the Destroyer set seems to be to many. House Of Furyan 19:50, 19 March 2008 (UTC)
Shield looks like a fossilized turd IMO =P (Though I do LOVE the staff, but I'm focusing on my War's hall, and I'm not spending 60k on a hero weapon haha). While someone very generous gave me his when he left guild wars, I would like to put my Tormented shield in too, though I'm not getting my hopes up...-Warior kronos 03:15, 20 March 2008 (UTC)

(Reset indent) There are no plans at this time to change the weapon configuration of the Hall of Monuments. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:43, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

They should remove zodiac weapons from random drops, and put them at a collector available in the elite mission areas (something like tormented weapons), after they should do a major fixin to Sorrow's Furnace, add unique weapon skins to a collector (same as DoA) and then present those 3 weapon sets (zodiac, tormented & Sorrow's Furnace set) to the Hall of Monument. --MageMontu 23:08, 23 March 2008 (UTC)
Couldn't agree more. --Treasure Boy 00:05, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
Agree! Although Personally I think that instead of having a sorrows furnace set. Just use the destroyer set as the Tyrian set. That way you cover all 3 continents, if not campaigns. That would give us Tyiran = Destroyer, Canthan = Zodiac and Elonan = Tormented. -- Salome User salome sig.png 15:06, 10 April 2008 (UTC)
Though it may be a good idea, what would happen to the current Zodiac weapons.. the prices for them would rocket up...--Spider osiris 12:41, 20 April 2008 (UTC)
In Prophecies the 'final' enemy is not the Destroyers, it's the Titans. So you would have to make the Titan quests repeatable, harder and drop Titan weapons to make things match. Eye of the North is not the second part of Prophecies, since you can get there without PRophecies at all. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 17:52, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

So is that all of 'em now then?[edit]

Well the title pretty much says it all. Can we expect more of the honorable mentions to be added at some point or not? Just wondering that's all as theirs some amazing skins left in there which i would love too see! -- Salome User salome sig.png 19:40, 9 April 2008 (UTC)

I think it's fair for me to answer this. 8 new items from the 2007 Design-a-Weapon Contest were introduced in March of 2008 (along with an added, ArenaNet artist-designed item), and then another 6 were added in early April of this year. It was a super-fun contest, and I hope that everyone enjoyed finding the items. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:41, 10 April 2008 (UTC)

2008 contest?[edit]

Is there a way to find out if there's gonna be a 2008 Contest, I've got some designs I want to enter. Plus, I'd love to have something I designed implimented into a game. Sharingaun dervish 20:41, 12 September 2008 (UTC)
