Talk:Displacement

With 16 communing and 16 spawning power this skill can block the next 6 attacks, even with signet of binding, signet of creation, spirit boon strike, and WHATEVER else you can find to heal spirits, I doubt it will ever even reach 10 attacks. Now WHY exactly would we take this over Ward Against Melee or Aegis or Defensive Anthem or essentially ANY other block skill? 76.26.189.65 23:25, 5 February 2008 (UTC)
Because you usually do ursanway and decided to pvx-copy/paste a ritualist build. Noctarch 02:35, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

vs a single warrior/paragon/ranger/dervish boss its not that bad a skill

needs a little buff, lak decrese deh dmg taken from spirit (60) to 50 or somezin

@IP User: If your are playing with Communing at attribute 15 with just Signet of Binding it's effect can be triggered up to 8 times. That's 8 physical attacks and it's after effects prevented. Why take this? Well, besides having a 75% chance of blocking and not been elite, the best bet I can come up with is it's effect don't require anyone to be in earshot(Aegis, Defensive Anthem), it doesn't need the teammates to stay in on area for protection where they can be open to AoE spells and can't kite(Ward Against Melee), they can do skills while protected(Defensive Anthem), since it can be done anywhere else it's easy to pick place where it's hard to be interrupted(Defensive Anthem,Aegis, Ward Against Melee), main idea I think is to negate at least 8 physical attacks if done correctly and so you can safely stay as backline supporting be it providing weapons, summoning spirits, healing, etc. while staying withing spell range from your teammates.--ShadowFog 16:28, 25 November 2008 (UTC)

@OP Some monk skills make spirits recharge very quickly. use this with soul twisting and boon of creation means you can re cast every 15 seconds infinitely. pretty useful if u ask me.

I do believe you are a moron, good sir. When this conversation DIED, the ST buff you're talking about hadn't even been dreamt of. And secondly, with 16 in communing, ST would allow you to summon displacement once every 5 seconds. 90.206.126.72 18:43, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Time gap[edit]

I've noticed that after casting the spirit there's a small gap(time-wise) after casting it and actually having the spirit in effect, doesn't seem to happen with Shelter or Union. It's only about 2 seconds, worth noting?--84.192.7.219 19:24, 8 August 2010 (UTC)

Happens with all spirits that have an effect, unless the effect is already on you (it will apply immediately as it kills the other spirit). It is noted on Binding Ritual. -~=Ϛρѧякγ User Sparky, the Tainted guided sig.png (τѧιк) 19:30, 8 August 2010 (UTC)
no... you need to actually test it. I've noticed it before, and it's aesthetically annoying when the icon doesn't pop up immediately - and I believe you're not actually protected by displacement during that time. 90.206.126.72 18:45, 20 January 2011 (UTC)

Interaction with other blocking skills[edit]

So... let's say I have both Aegis and Displacement up, and I block... How does it determine whether to punish Displacement or not? 68.58.195.181 09:14, 11 December 2010 (UTC)

That's a good question, I use both and it seems that Displacement lasts a lot longer when Aegis is up at the same time. I think that because Aegis is an enchantment and Displacement is an area effect what could be happening is that if Aegis fails to block, Displacement has a roll and a chance to block in which case it takes damage. Not sure which one rolls first but I'd be willing to bet that it's the first one that's applied, either way, Aegis+Displacement ruin mele in pve 81.33.229.25 14:16, 9 May 2011 (UTC)

1Actual effective blocks before dying; assuming spirit gains no damage/health. The number of blocks is based on level 14 Spirit of Displacement using 15 ranks in Communing.

the above table was originally posted by user:Falconeye. As noted elsewhere, the table adds a lot of data without necessarily offering a sufficient information benefit in return. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:55, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

Shielding Urn[edit]

"Shielding Urn from the Alliance Battles in Saltspray Beach can take the damage taken by this spirit until it wears off."

Is this true because Shielding Urn (skill) suggests that it only affects players. Also additionally, shouldn't this note be (only) on Displacement (PvP)? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by Combatter (talk) at 10:12, 2 December 2011 (UTC).

Note moved to PvP version, good spot. Needs investigating (though you don't see saltspray very often). File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.pngChieftain Alex 11:20, 2 December 2011 (UTC)

Timer[edit]

When in effect, the bar that's supposed to indicate how much time is left doesn't ever change. Would the Bug or Anomaly title be more appropriate? EtariP sdrawkcaB ehT 00:45, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Bug. Anomalies are when you are not sure if things are functioning as intended by ArenaNet - Bugs are for when they definitely aren't. --Combatter 14:24, 18 May 2012 (UTC)
Danke, if nobody else does, I'll add it to the page once I get home (I find editing pages from my phone to be quite tedious with these mobile browsers.) EtariP sdrawkcaB ehT 16:32, 18 May 2012 (UTC)

Blocks X hits[edit]

This auto-generated row is incorrect for Communing 2 and 6, when it blocks one fewer hit than stated. Not that anyone would use it in those ranks anyway, but I'm bringing it up in case someone else's personal spreadsheet seems off compared to it. Letting the row stay as it does a good job of showing how bad Displacement is without Spawning Power / Soul Twisting / Armor of Unfeeling. Cealdor (talk) 07:00, 7 August 2021 (UTC)
