My opinion is that this should read Commander Title or whatever. --Indecision 06:11, 8 March 2007 (EST)

Shouldn't this be Hero Battle?[edit]

Shouldn't this be Hero Battle? I see a redirect from that page to this, but surely standard naming is to suffix pages with a "s" rather than have a redirect to the "s"-suffixed page? --Jamie (Talk Page) 08:05, 14 March 2007 (EDT)

Take a look on the Battle Isle map ingame. This arena is called "Hero Battles". And so is the standard naming in this wiki. The redirect was established because many people think what you wrote here. Unfortunately it's wrong. :) BigBlue 08:12, 14 March 2007 (EDT)

Access Bug[edit]

Tourny[edit]

How do you enter automated Hero Battle Tournaments?--Eloc 20:36, 10 April 2007 (EDT)

The same way you enter hero battles rated or unrated. Hit the hero battle button on your party ewindow. if it is registration time for the tourney, you will have the option to register. You must however have a Tourney token, purchased for 1 k balth faction, from tolkano. 1 token per tourney. Then you will have a countdown clock until the tourney starts, is over, ect. Make sure to check frequently with tolkano, to see whewn the tourneys registrations are, ect. hope that helps some.Sabuu Psycosis 17:40, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Question on last portion of the HB page[edit]

The author goes on for several sentances about HB would be great if it was 2 humans, 6 heros. Yes, I agree that would be fun, but we haven't recieved any info on this, and its just one persons wish for the advancement of the game. In my oppinion its not really main page stuff, its talk page info. Its not beneficial to anyoen coming to find out about HB. I would like to suggest that portion be stricken from the main page. If agreed i'll remove it or someone else can. Sabuu Psycosis 18:39, 18 June 2007 (UTC)

Removed. Comment was as follows:
It will be interesting to see if Arena Net expands the Hero Battle concept to two real players and their heroes, especially with the GW:EN release. This expansion would allow the full standard size team build of eight (2 real people and 6 heroes) Such a team would allow two people to fully explore a wide range of specialty and balanced builds esepcially with the increased number of heroes comming with GW:EN. Such a concept also has the advantage of fewer "people" needed to coordinate for starting (eight people can sometimes be challenging), and the 10 min format is very good for "busy" people and testing builds for other PVP arenas.

Is there a Heroes section planned for this article?[edit]

The strategy section references the Heroes section. Is this intended to simply link to the Hero wiki article, or is there going to be a hero strategy added to this article? Personally I think a guide to outfitting heroes specifically for Hero Battles would be a valuable addition to the article. - Thulsey Zheng - talk 08:15, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

"Watch observer mode, copy paste run" --Deathwing 08:19, 26 July 2007 (UTC)
That's a good option for people to do, sure, and can be put in the article as a tip (seriously) but I'm specifically talking about the way the article is worded now. A link is enough, telling people to go check out the link is redundant. - Thulsey Zheng - talk 08:25, 26 July 2007 (UTC)

Anyway people will ever use the pvxwiki damn mods... *sigh* i feel stupid figthing the same Assasin-Gu/P-Monk-Ritualist team again and again. But could be okay. Maybe then they learn to do they're build by themselves.

1v1[edit]

This was meant to be a 1vs1 arena but again ANET has disappointed me The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.110.16.146 (talk • contribs) 12:53, 26 October 2007 (UTC).

Disappointment for you perhaps, but it was never meant to be a 1v1 arena. GuildWars just isn't a 1v1 game. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 11:14, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
If it was 1v1, every1 would be 55hp or E/D, no skill involved in HB or 1v1, they really need to get rid of PvX... Blah Your Hamster
No skill in HB? Gtfo mate, you have to concentrate more in HB than anywhere else, practically playing 4 chars at once. Also PvX wiki has the meta all wrong, and most builds do not reflect the actual metagame of HB... -Rainbow Lags Out--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Rainbow Lags Out (talk).
I have to agree with the first poster and I'm Com3 top 1000. This arena is an epic failure as far as pvp gameplay goes. If you observe at any given point during the day you will see the same builds facing off versus the same builds. The fact that all the maps are virtually the same in concept creates a single faceted objective to all the maps. (Run to shrines, cap if possible, Sin trys to take out any lone runners and well thats sadly pretty much it for HB). ANET needs to implement other map features to counter what is the only build you see in HB. (Yes there are variants but basically they are all the same. And no I dont think your cripslash deaths charge war or Corrupt enchants smite monk exempts you from being meta.)
epic failure this arena cause of same builds pfff i go to ta and i see same builds i watch gvg and see same builds or near same builds. yes in hb there are more same builds then in other arenas but your overexagerating. beside that there is not much room for big difference cause of the map objectives. Your heroes have too fullfill on many rquirements it has to be capable of surviving if its send to a shrine so self protection takes at least half a hero bar. Second the players are limited by heroes ai, so its not the arena but more the hero ai that is limiting different team builds. 212.84.136.98 23:16, 4 April 2008 (UTC) de klootviool
More focus on fighting less on shrine capping. Implement one or two maps that do not focus on capping shrines. Leave map selection random in tourneys so that ppl aren't adjusting their builds to conform. This would alleviate some of the problem I think.
As for the one sidedness of capping; the shrines not only grant you morale points but other hugely beneficial features, kind of an overkill on the impetus for running. All in all HB is a disappointment of what it could be. Would be great to have an arena where ppl could play regular pvp, you know fighting rather than running, without having to form teams or rely on other players which is what I am guessing was part of the original concept of 1 vs 1. And to the second poster, if it isn't 1 vs 1 then when I press observe I must have a pirate copy of GW because mine says 1 vs 1 to observe what appears to be meta battles, I mean hero battles, I mean Hero versus Hero. The arena in some form or another is clearly intended to be 1 vs 1 or else the creators would not have titled it such. And the fear of 55's and E/D's dominating? Please go play some TA or RA let me know how many earth tanks and 55's you see and how well they contribute to winning.
And Rainbow? "most builds dont reflect the actual metagame of HB..." What? Are we to suppose everyone randomly decided on this build. Of course the build we are discussing reflects meta, thats why every one is running it. And skill? Yes there is skill involved but just like IWAY and practically every cookie cutter build that followed this is the easiest means of winning in HB on every level of HB gameplay. The build is easy to understand and fairly self automated to some degree. In essence it lowers the skill level of HB and since that is all you see in HB it has even further lowered the skill level since there are rarely any variations that catch anyone off guard. Plz press B. You can watch the top ranked players running the same build if your unsure and copy the build if PVXwiki is all wrong, lol. -Time for GVG
So, in this type of game I just take a one kill, meta, cheappo Assassin and let it run to cap, if confronted against a group, re-group and/or run to another shrine?...a mini-smalller version of AB that last less?...And I was planning on buying NightFall for the 1vs1(HB)...maybe just for the skills then.--ShadowFog 14:29, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
So you want an arena where glads defense whammos reign king? Oh, okay. 1v1 would be more of a joke than HB already is. -Auron 14:35, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Just tried this Hero Battles with Eye of the North Expansion. Man(or girl whoever is reading this), what a let down. The morale system sucks and wont make much of a difference if your team by chance doesnt have the skill bar to deal with the opposing team... you can cap all you want, the other team, even go to the spawning area keeps spawn killing without the effort to capture the flags. I think the game would have been better if it was 8vs8, two players each one with his/her own set of four bots vs the other two players and much bigger arena but hey... Arena doesnt care much seeing as they have "done a lot of changes in 1vs1 to make it better"(sarcasm). I just dont see the point, idea, main cheese, etc. of Hero Battles. Oh yeah, unlike HA, every cheappo can go in. Rant done--ShadowFog 16:25, 5 June 2008 (UTC)

Meta[edit]

i'm the only one who is really pissed off figthing again and again and again and again returning monks, E/D, R/P, asasins, Rit/N and healing dervishes in any combination of them?

This is really BORING.

WoW...the flame here really burns. I was told from a friend of mine who owns Nighfall, that these place is always deserted, rare is the occasion you see people battle.--ShadowFog 14:24, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Hmm... I've seen some videos but... I dont get a Hero(CPU) R/P, a player(the majority are Assassins anyway) with a Hero R/P can make the Hero's pet target a foe(Distrupting Lunge anyone?) while the same Hero attacks another person? The Hero is in Florida interrupting while the pet is in China doing the same thing?(not literally, theres no Florida here!)--ShadowFog 16:16, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Rewards[edit]

  • "Victory in these battles is rewarded with Victory Points which are the main component of the Commander title. For every unique kill and win you will receive Balthazar faction."

Could the amount of victory points (1 for each RATED match) and the amount of balthazar faction be mentioned in this paragraph? (x per kill, 20 per score?/time idk)

Oh, and does killing a mercenary or pet count towards score? 193.190.253.145 15:49, 12 January 2008 (UTC)
Balthazar faction already shows the amount of xp you get for kills, victory and holding the shrines. About the pets and mercenary I am not sure. You can test it easily yourself, and post it here :-) --Jurrit 17:22, 12 January 2008 (UTC)

How long were Hero Battles planned for?[edit]

I wanna know how long it took to make em, coz i saw the outpost in my factions manual.--The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Words can heal (talk).

Pobly quite a while. Nightfall was being planned when only Prophecies was out, so they put a lot of effort into what ever they plan. — Eloc 02:54, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Any changes coming?[edit]

HB is like a demo for AB. Is there anychanges coming for HB? Has HB ever changed?--ShadowFog 16:29, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

HB is and yet isn't the AB demo. It is in the sense of capping and whatnot, but it's not because you can't just switch targets if your up against a staller protector or healer(like 99% of HB players run) where as in AB coming up against one is much less likely because...well staller builds in AB fail.

But no, I doubt there will ever be changes to HB. It could use a work over though since the current system fails. And yes, I have done HB before(r4) but it really does need to be re-worked in a way that is less annoying.--Masato 17:01, 8 July 2008 (UTC)

Early end draw?[edit]

So I just tried HB for the first time... and when both me and my opponent were at 14 points, all of a sudden the battle just ended (saying something like "guild battle ended prematurely") with no winner. Could someone please inform me what exactly happened? Thanks in advance to anyone. Capcom 02:40, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

AI[edit]

Is utter shit when it comes to HB, if you want to fix HB update the AI so it cant be abused.--75.94.77.148 09:30, 16 November 2008 (UTC)

Plz Hb needs a change[edit]

We got same metagame last 2 years, and it s..., lot of hb players left the game because hb its bored.... Plz we need some changes..... --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Vamp (talk).

That's why some elites were buffed. Not to make them compatible with the metagame, but to actually change said metagame. 145.94.74.23 15:02, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
The mechanics of HB remain the same so the meta really won't shift unless some new combinations become even more powerful for farming NPCs. There are only a couple of changes that would effect HB at all, and one of those is enraged smash (kiting npcs). But regardless, the update was still a high level of powercreep. HB needs a serious change to its mechanics because as is there are only a few viable options if you want to compete at the higher levels. Simply buffing elites to compete with already overpowered skills won't do anything. Kelvin Greyheart 15:17, 29 December 2008 (UTC)
It will make some players ragequit GW. But seriously, I didn't read the HB part. I totally agree with you on that one. 145.94.74.23 08:55, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

Resigning[edit]

I need to know: how many people agree with the red=resign rule? or the Rock paper scissors rule? I hate it and would much rather fight people than do something by luck of the draw.

Red resign isn't even luck of the draw, since the person with higher rating is red. And neither of them are rules, and I see much less of either than I did of rolling. ¬ Wizårdbõÿ777(talk) 22:38, 7 May 2009 (UTC)
Well rtight now its all i've been seeing and its getting on my nerves...
Seeing as how they were exploiting GvG to increase ranks without doing shit, it really does surprises me why anyone wasn't doing these before in this arena. I mean, you dont need a lot of people to exploit this (just grab a willing friend or friends).--ShadowFog 05:17, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Just fight them, it's lame to do red resign 83.90.164.96 15:08, 9 October 2009 (UTC)

Bye?[edit]

What, may i ask is a "bye"? "you have a bye this round"

A bye is when there is an odd number of opponants in a tournament, one of them does not have to fight in the first round and gets put directly into the second.--Orry 23:25, 20 May 2009 (UTC)

Possible Strategy Section[edit]

Can we get this cleaned up please. It looks like someone wrote the first two paragraphs, and the third paragraph is someone who chose to insult the writer of the first two paragraphs going "But a smart player does this and this." I would simply put down and explain that there are two methods to winning. Either by killing your opponent and his/hero for points, or capturing shrines. Note: I did not write the first two paragraphs, or the third paragraph, from an anonymous view that's just what it looks like. Than 05:35, 22 June 2009 (UTC)

I don't play Hero Battles because I suck, but I don't see why it should be "too boring". I'd have watched more matches but observation mode sucks though, you can't save matches for view later, and often it's hard to get a decent idea of what is going on - you can't see all the skillbars at the same time and their usage to appreciate better what the players (and their heroes) are doing at the same time (or doing to each other :) ).

I would have loved to have played this game mode. :(

Thank you so much to everyone who acted so douchily as to have game mode removed. Yeah, I would have sucked at HB and lost every battle, but that isn't the point. Now it's GW history, that a lot of us can now never be part of. Random Arenas appears to simply be an idiotfest/abusegame - and that's just the Town/Outpost. How the hell is being called Stupid Noob (even though you read every page of Anet's "Before you PvP" series) fun? Oh, practise more (I hear you say). Sure. Who with, Braniac? Because Old Mr "You're just a stupid noob" sure isn't prepared to teach what little he knows (or the code for the metabuild, more likely). Keep trying, and maybe find someone who isn't a jack(or jill)ass to teach you stuff? Sure. We don't need our self-esteem, so we can waste it being abused until we *MAYBE* hook up with someone who isn't an anti-social gamehitler.

The problem wasn't with HB, it was with PvP overall - and the fact that many gamers seem to think that being a belligerent wanker is the same thing as being competitive. It isn't. That's why it's spelt using different letters, and is pronounced completely differently.

I had enough of that crap in high school, thanks. I paid money for a game I get to experience HALF of, because of moronic little elitist paradigms (e.g. "You're red, you win/lose" = LAZY) which are rarely (if ever) questioned by the poltroons who apparently make up a large percentage of this (otherwise excellent) games PvP players.

A-Net have the records. Why the hell didn't they just BAN evey red-quitting-idiot, instead of punishing everyone else by taking the game mode away? SURELY that would have been less effort than CREATING A WHOLE NEW GAME MODE?

(And, for the record, the Codex Battles Outpost appears to have been quickly filled with egotistical tossers. I only bother going back once a month now, and THAT'S just to see if anything's changed.)

Whatever. I'm off for some PvE. Draque Azure 16:46, 22 November 2009 (UTC)

Isn't it sad that when you start playing gw as a kid who doesn't understand the concept of HB..(and not the builds as well) and then start a match, spawn in Bombardment and getting owned by some pro HB player? At that time (summer 2009) I just said to myself: okay, relax, when I'm older I get to understand this stuff better and then it'll be my turn!
