Obsidian Edge question[edit]

moved from User talk:Gaile Gray

Hi gaile, is this new weapon part of the DaW 2007 entries or just a nice skin the designers added in addition to the contest winners. If it was a finalist entry could you tell us whose it was, as the designs for theirs were never posted. --LemmingUser Lemming64 sigicon.png 12:20, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Hello. This was a Guild Wars artist-designed item and was not part of the Design-a-Weapon (2007) Contest. Like a certain armour set, it was designed and then sort of forgotten. It can sound odd to hear that, but there are so many hundreds of thousands of art files, text strings, and so forth, and this (obviously) can happen. I think John discovered this sword a few weeks ago and upon discussion, the designers decided to go ahead and add it to the game. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 18:58, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Any ideas on when this was actually designed, or when it was intended to be introduced, simply with EotN, or perhaps back in the days of Prophecies? ---Meridan (Talk!) 10:46, 10 March 2008 (UTC)
The ranger Furlined Armor had a mask with it in one of Lyndsey's scanes which showed there was a mask made for that armour set but it never made it into the game. Will we be seeing that as well? 122.104.160.66 21:33, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm not sure when it was designed; I will see if I can find out. And I can ask about that mask, too, sure. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 02:09, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
Well, it turns out that the details on this item are sort of lost in the annals of time. Sorry 'bout that, but it seems I won't be able to provide any additional info. -- Gaile User gaile 2.png 03:44, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
annals of time hurrrr --92.1.48.37 13:22, 19 October 2009 (UTC)

Does it drop?[edit]

Does it actually drop, or is it chests only? Did anet confirm a drop for it, or is it up to us to find out?

I wonder if there is shards in it :P-DominatorMatrix- 01:05, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
My god, I want a spear of it :P--213.22.95.11 13:57, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Ya rly. -Auron 14:22, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
They should've made us craft it for 75 shards, like the chaos gloves. Not that this will make it any less ugly. Arduinna talk 21:19, 9 March 2008 (UTC)

I agree its too tiny :D--Blahishness 15:32, 30 January 2009 (UTC)

Ugly? you people are on crack lol this is one of the best looking weps in game imho. Brian78wa talk 16:46, 18 March 2009 (UTC)

Trivia[edit]

Gaile stated that it was a artist-designed weapon that was "forgotten" and "rediscovered" and so was added along with the Design-A-Weapon ones.--74.61.209.219 19:00, 8 March 2008 (UTC)

Confirmed Drop[edit]

Perfect Req 9 15^50 +30hp, 20/20 sundering. End Chest Fissure of Woe, on 21 March 2008. 75.104.128.38 18:34, 22 March 2008 (UTC)

Would you like me to put that into the new drop research table? Don't want to copy or remove this without a chance for input. --Chaiyo Kaldor talk contribs 00:26, 9 July 2008 (UTC)

It's not small at all[edit]

Well, it maybe that you haven't really ever seen it, or maybe got it early, when it WAS small. But when I got it last weekend in HM Chest of Woe (req 9, thx, thx) and equiped it, it was just a bit shorter than a long sword. This might be an update over update, but I find it wierd for someone to find out: "wow, my obsidian edge grew over night!". It does however look small in this pic, it probably shot from the side.

I agree on the other cool ones being dagger-sized, though.

Just a little history/realism note here for all the "oooo it's short" complainers: almost all one-handed swords throughout human history were rather short compared to bows, spears and other weapons. And since GW's swords are all meant as one-handed weapons...78.2.24.115 21:06, 1 April 2008 (UTC)
Realistically, many of the popular swords would be two handed, but games tend to take some liberty with reality so they can look cooler. The swords aren't quite as big as swords from some games though :P(Final Fantasy, Durandel and Ragnell from Fire Emblem, etc) 71.31.149.63 09:51, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Agree with the stamements saying its not that small. I'd rather say that the fellblade is too big. --88.68.207.135 12:11, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Uploadet a new version of the picture, take a closer look at the size, not that small at all ZliDe 00:34, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
Indeed. So the graphic was updated, or there was some camera problem with the first screenshot, because the old one and the new one don't appear to be of the same size (i mean, just take a look, the hand covered half of the grip on the first one)--Fighterdoken 22:44, 7 April 2008 (UTC)
There might also be a difference between male/female wielding it. Or perhaps it doesn't accurately adjust to character size. Just hypothesizing here. Cedave 05:50, 15 July 2008 (UTC)

this sword is the size of my monk. Hubbard User Hubbard sig icon.png The Dervish 20:53, 3 August 2009 (UTC)
