"Power" skills[edit]

according to all those related skills you can see, Power [Name] skills are Mesmer skills that interrupt and do something with the energy of you or your foe. —ZerphatalkThe Improver 15:02, 24 November 2007 (UTC)

Yeah, except for Power Block, Power Spike, Power Attack, and Power Shot. That leaves about 3 skills that actually follow that. :D 208.117.81.202 23:34, 18 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, at least they all interrupt something and have an interruption effect :D —ZerphatalkThe Improver 16:34, 29 August 2008 (UTC)
Power is just the generic name of a Mesmer interupt. The fact that it has something to do wtih energy is unrelated. Power Attack and Power Shot aren't even mesmer skills, so I'm not sure why they'd even be considered to follow the same patterns. 66.202.1.169 00:53, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Those two are called "Power X" because they're powerful attacks (they simply do more damage) so they do follow a pattern, just a different one. The other Power skills still interrupt and though they don't do something with your energy they fit the theme (Power Spike turns the energy they're casting into a surge of power which deals damage, Power Block blocks their power to cast spells, something like that). 86.26.90.196 21:45, 14 January 2009 (UTC)

energy gain for interrupted skills?[edit]

does the spell need to be finished for you to gain the energy, or can you interrupt it?

No, the spell has to be finished in order to be considered "Casted". Interrupting them will not get you any energy. FleshAndFaith 22:23, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Skill picture[edit]

What's there? Pink leeches? Matek 18:39, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

More like a bukkakke

Thats a pretty good skill.

The chick in the pic is the same the one on power flux lol she getting owned again. (70.2.104.155 07:48, 22 February 2008 (UTC))

Really is funny how similar those icons are. 76.25.21.240 23:18, 4 October 2008 (UTC)

12/11 update[edit]

15 energy steal??? golly... Monks beware of this skill... this will total shut down for 10 seconds... even if you try to remove it off youself, still gonna cost you 20 energy -- SabreWolf 06:16, 12 December 2008 (UTC)

The energy cost of this skill is still 10 energy, despite the update stating; "Energy cost reduced to 5". 4.225.88.231 07:40, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
At the bottom of the update, it says that it's still 10 energy. 24.26.253.105 15:48, 12 December 2008 (UTC)
This skill still sucks, as the effect is conditional.
10 energy cost reduced to 5 Friday December 12th at 8:00pm EST (-5 GMT) 4.225.89.0 01:14, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Saying this skill sucks because it's conditional, is like saying Diversion is useless because it's conditional. Also, welcome to the world of Mesmers, where nearly everything you do, is conditional. Saphatorael 11:34, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Why even bother to remove only 15 Energy? Why not just remove all energy since that's basically the same. BTW, why not call the skill "Shroud of Silence"? Lol - this and Diversion and you got 5 skills left to harass the rest of the team, because the monk won't do anything for the rest of the game. --82.83.61.78 13:07, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
OMG your right, you monk target wont do anything for the rest of the game, untill his monk friend takes it off of your target monk that is.@ Anon that says this skills sucks because its conditional, your missing the point of this skill, either they cast and lose a lott of energy or they don't cast and their allies die, both situations work out in your favor. Durga Dido 13:16, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Wow, you're that smart. You forget there are many arenas where only 1 monk is in the team and in arenas where 2 monks are there may be 2 shutdowners in the other team? My point not being it's possible to shut down a monk (what you say!), but doing this with a skillbar that leaves plenty of room to shutdown the 2nd monk as well. --82.83.61.78 13:25, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
"I'm using Diversion on Monk Two!"
"Monk One is using Remove Hex!"
"I'm using Power Leech on Monk One!"
"Monk Two is using Remove Hex!"
"I'm using Power Leak on Monk Two!"
And you've got Shatter Enchantment for pesky Holy Veils, and whatever else you like for pesky whatever else you might run into. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 20:52, 13 December 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. Best use in combination with a Mark of Insecurity-Assa, which means instant Death even for a 2 monk backline. GL with monking in a few weeks. Too bad PnH is Divine, nobody will be able to help. Thank got it's christmas soon... gonna buy me a 1 year access for a shiny new MMORPG that's not run (i.e. screwed) by NCsoft/ANet. --82.82.169.97 11:45, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Actually, I think I like this one. A lot. As a mesmer, I usually use non-elites to do stuff. This helps me do that by energy management and puts significant e-denial/shutdown on a target. Good job with the update, Anet! 98.226.112.109 17:18, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

That's the problem with the skill, it is too strong to be balanced. Thus it may please you personally, but still it is a big problem for GW in general. BTW, you won't get any emanagement by this because nobody will be dumb enough to cast thru this. Edenial is so overpowered on this one it is just a 10 second elite version of Diversion. Another reason why the whole concept of the skill is a failure. Would have been better to lower the energy loss to reasonable levels (5e) to actually let someone cast. --82.82.176.65 08:47, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Ah, but people do still try to cast through it more often then not, from my experience with it so far.
Don't look at the skill as e-management, because yes, a good player generally won't cast through it. Think of it as a Diversion that interrupts a spell when you cast it; people won't waste a spell, they'll wait it out. In rare instances, someone'll decide to brave the cost and fire off a Remove Hex, but either way, you generally end up on top in the situation. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:59, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Sure... they do for 2 reasons. First reason is the skill is "new" and people need some time to learn what it does now. But this will change fast. Second reason is some people are bad ^^. his will never change, but do you think we should judge over skill balances with regard to bad players? :-) However, I think chosing to actually make it a balanced skill would have given the Mez more than just an elite fire-and-forget Diversion for 10 seconds. Since there is already the VoR etc. skillbar that does basically the same. --82.82.176.65 11:26, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Another way to look at it is with a modest investment in Inspiration line, you get decent energy drain. You keep cast it on say an ele, and since its only taking 5-6 nrg from them at low levels you get 10 secs of using them as a battery cause they aren't likely to notice it as much....Loki207.71.50.165 17:56, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Ok, this makes some sense. But it's a rare case of low attrib (not non-attrib!) Elite. Somehow this still doesn't seem to be a very good and clear concept, but however... --82.82.176.65 21:41, 15 December 2008 (UTC)
Given the choice, however, I would rather the target entirely avoid casting while they're hexed, as in that case, I don't need as much energy (I would otherwise be spending most of my energy attempting to shut down their heals and hex removal). --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 06:19, 16 December 2008 (UTC)

Well.....[edit]

You cant say ur gonna shutdown a monk for sure.. Its like bringing PBlock and saying, gg monks dead.. U need to interrupt, but a decent skill and energy management for Non Mesmers :> 83.108.40.189 20:12, 15 December 2008 (UTC)

I like this skill, bring rend or a powerful hex such as diversion and make them drop their veil. When they re-apply their veil you interrupt with this and they're pretty much screwed. Veil should be an easy interrupt as it doesn't gain any advantage from 40/40 sets. SniperFoxUser SniperFox IconSmall.gif 11:59, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
When does the energy steal apply? if you interrupt them, do you still gain or no? ~~ User:Frvwfr2 frvwfr2 (talk · contributions) 21:19, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
I'd say no. Most other skills (VoR, backfire) require completion. --JonTheMon 21:21, 18 December 2008 (UTC)
Yep, works the same as Backfire. You only steal when the spell completes, so interrupts or self-cancels will avoid the energy loss. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 09:04, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

Suggestion[edit]

At the moment this doesn't rivalise with p-drain, as p-drain is non-elite, gives more energy and gives it INSTANTLY. Right now if you try to use this skill in 8v8, one monk gets hexed, calls monk 2 to remove the hex >> GG you just wasted an elite slot & 5energy whereas with p-drain you would have gained about 21energy.

In order for this to be called an "Elite Power-Drain" it should steal energy ON SUCCESSFUL interrupt and apply the hex for further energy-draining. That way you get energy (which is the point of p-drain) but instead of gaining it out of nowhere you stole it from the target. It could even have a nicer mechanic, something like: Interrupt target foe's spell. If successful interrupt, steal 5...15energy from target foe & this skill recharges instantly." 212.198.134.54 02:44, 25 December 2008 (UTC)

gvg/ha aren't the only pvp arenas. yes, it's worthless because there are easily 5 better options for elites, but it'll likely work better in the other arenas. --click moar Mafaraxas 07:13, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Run some hexspam pressure and you probably won't get the other monk veiling it right off.Pika Fan 09:58, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Agreed, this is a really easy skill to use. Just cover it; you've got fast casting FFS. If you can't afford to be Me/N for parasitic bond, then use Mind Wrack. It's basically the same, just has a bit longer recharge. --Jette 10:57, 27 December 2008 (UTC)
Wastrel's Worry is even an option as a cover-ish hex, as you can use it to taunt out a spell from the first Monk just to avoid the damage. --User Jioruji Derako logo.png Jïörüjï Ðērākō.>.cнаt^ 15:53, 27 December 2008 (UTC)

Yeah well, as a PvE Mesmer I look at this skill and it seems so awesome but I guess that's pretty much a Monk-only thing. Unless you're going HEAVILY on Inspiration (and I find that most times it's a secondary e-management attribute with low-ish scores) having to actually let the caster do his spells can be too dangerous (surprise surprise Searing Flames boss mode!). Domination is still the line for interrupts - VileLasagna 17:41, 16 November 2009 (UTC)

This covered with the *new* Mind Wrack followed up by Aneurysm once MW ends could be really nasty; I'll need to try it out.--70.112.38.162 04:04, 29 June 2010 (UTC)
