It would be nice if people can confirm whether you need to drop the cupcake or eat it (or both). Also, are there like any requirements (like do you need a minimum amount of completed missions?). Would be nice to see more input of other players. I’ll try it first thing tomorrow when I get back home! —Jorre22225 (talk) 11:05, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

I can confirm you need to eat the cupcake, not drop, you also need Lucky Aura, Kilroy does not need to be present. I have screenshots if necessary. 77.86.23.213 11:21, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

"duration it took to find"[edit]

I don't really think this is relevant to the article, and the first hint was last august. horrible | contribs 12:37, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

Since this is an extraordinary situation for a hidden thing, with a developer involved bringing light to the matter, like many other Easter Eggs that have been covered in videogame websites and articles, I think (in my personal opinion) it would be nice to document it all, for posterity and for the curiosity of the "hunt" itself, like other GW live events already documented with people from GW/ArenaNet involved. There are multiple event pages already written with things like the one from yesterday, I see no problem with creating another one (being the last and final one that we may never have). After all the wiki is an information media regarding everything. I mean, as you say, the "duration" is not relevant, but it's a curiosity, why not? It has been part of the process of the mystery, of a eight-year unsolved thing. When I read articles regarding information about videogames, I like to have the whole information, not only the summary, because it's part of the fun. This can be added in the Trivia section without problem, including the name of the player (if he agrees), I don't see the problem honestly, in a few years we will remember this and we would like that the information is available to everyone, and that it has not been forgotten, buried and lost in a chat of an external Discord application outside the game itself. —Scribeton (talk) 13:39, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
Can we verify the veracity that it has never been discovered prior to 2021? The dev in question even said they didn't think anybody found it, but that does not mean it hadn't been found prior to 2021. I think it would be better to state that the existence of this object was not made publicly or widely known until this time. I only say this as I have it on pretty good authority that a player had acquired this several years ago by happenstance. 96.227.101.134 00:54, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
There is no registry or constancy of people selling it 6 years ago according Kamadan Trade Chat, so it's unlikely. And even if it was not for sale, someone would have known at least the name of the item (and it has not been the case either). Also, no one found it when the GW.dat was dumped, so it is highly unlikely that this was known if no one has spoken in all these years, mainly because when someone discovers something in this game, they try to take advantage of it or shout it from the rooftops to become famous. —Scribeton (talk) 01:06, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Not everyone is looking for fame or fortune. This would have been around the time of the Canthan New Year in 2014 or 2015, iirc when it would have been obtained. I can post the information I have on it here, if anyone would be interested, but it would just be anecdotal at this point. 96.227.101.134 01:25, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
You have it "on pretty good authority"? What authority might that be? - Alexis Toran (talk) 01:45, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
The player who had showed it to me at that time and where he found it.
It's been a few years since we were last in contact. I am trying to see if I can track down a way to get in touch with him, at the very least just to satisfy my own memory. Regardless, the my main point is that the article should reflect that we are making the assumption that no one else was able to obtain this item until the information was made public this week, and the first person to publicly announce that they obtained the item. If Arenanet has a way to 100% verify that the item was or was not discovered up until this week, and gives us that information, we don't have proof positive either way, and I think the article should reflect that.96.227.101.134 01:47, 15 April 2021 (UTC)
Pretty confident i've gotten this, i usually run with lunars and cupcakes (who doesn't to the latter?) and tossed it, I don't use greenies, like many many other players who don't share any love for them. Regarding things that aren't known, there are plenty which probably now would be considered "fresh" knowledge - all from unreq'd weapons, to lost outposts/arenas to the possibly hidden lost ark (both pre - regent valley and post sear - the desert), to finding out that a tree in guildwars (fire islands) is a copy of the lonely tree (california) to a possibly omfgfkinhuge easter egg that hasn't been found or deciphered yet.
The reason for not sharing something can just aswell be being underwhelmed or not caring. I've "shouted from the rooftops" when I've found new farms and exploits a few times when rushing through the games right after release but it never got me fame even when doing so for a farm that became extremely commonplace, so doing it for the "fame" doesn't do much.
Exactly. Unfortunately, I have lost contact with the person who showed this to me. We first knew each other from a SWTOR guild and got to talking to find out that he also played GW. He never goes on gaming forums and normally plays solo. The only reason he was in our SWTOR Guild was because some of us started doing Extra Life, which he had been doing since its inception. A lot of us that gamed together never shouted anything from the roof tops. It's never been in our nature. So to use that as a reason to assume something like the Silver Edge hasn't been found until this past year is simply asinine. 96.227.101.134 05:25, 31 January 2022 (UTC)
Since I'm not American I didn't know about the Lone Cypress and its possible relation with the tree of the bonus mission from Abaddon's Mouth, so I updated the Trivia section, thanks for pointing it. Regarding the old keyless chests, those are documented in the Historical content category, but I think the desert one is missing, and I don't remember its name to search it anyway. The unconditional weapons (the unreq'd weapons as you say) are pending to be added, I was going to write the article myself with the information collected in GW Legacy thanks to several members of the forum, but due to fatigue from being involved in other projects I ended up postponing it forever. Behold and despair. Starter Recurve Bow was hidden in plain sight since the launch of Nightfall in 2006. Finally got its own page in 2023. That's the real longest-undocumented item in Guild Wars history, along with Starter Shortbow, Starter Hornbow, and Starter Longbow. Blue Totoro 05:51, 15 February 2023 (UTC)

Named after a wiki user[edit]

Where the heck is the source confirming this claim? Feels like a troll edit... —Jorre22225 (talk) 14:42, 14 April 2021 (UTC)

Uh, it's pretty clear. The archivists are all named after wiki editors, and this sword is specifically mentioned as belonging to the archivist named after Silver Edge. horrible | contribs 14:45, 14 April 2021 (UTC)
To provide a little more context; the archivist NPCs added in the 2013 update were all afterthoughts (basically) of the initial plan to honor Silver Edge. After being impressed with his contributions over several years, I asked Stephane if there was some way ANet could honor him - I was expecting maybe an NPC or a blog post, but that was it.
ANet got back to me and requested a longer list of other notable contributors, so the bcrats brainstormed and came up with the list that ended up being made into archivists. We had no idea the dialog was all part of a larger easter egg centered around Silver Edge, but given that the initial idea had been to single out Silver Edge for his legendary contributions, it makes sense. It's definitely, undoubtedly a reference to the editor, since this whole thing started as a way to show him some love for the love he showed the wiki. -Auron 09:36, 16 April 2021 (UTC)
Thank you, Auron, for making the suggestion that resulted in the NPCs and weapon. I greatly appreciate it. --Silver Edge 22:41, 25 April 2021 (UTC)
Coincidentally, I just found a suggestion of a Silver Edge sword by Tennessee Ernie Ford [1] via Neithan Diniem [2] back in 2010. --Silver Edge 04:03, 30 April 2021 (UTC)

Weapon Spell[edit]

I would also like to add that the appearance of this weapon does not change while under the effects of a Weapon Spell. I think some other anniversary weapons are like this too. Stacia (talk) 13:05, 15 April 2021 (UTC)

I tested it and it changed. Maybe we did something different ? --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 14:26, 9 May 2021 (UTC)

Once per account and only on first try[edit]

Got it first try. Tried a second time on another character of the same account (after transfering the sword to a second account) and it didn't drop. I have a second account, I can try to see what happens if you fail to pick up or if you delete the sword. --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 17:32, 30 April 2021 (UTC)
