Talk:Simple Thievery

To get infinite PvP avatars: What about a D/Me a combination of Arcane Mimicry coupled with an ally packing Oath Shot or Assassin's Promise to get all skills recharged allowing infinite Avatars? The last comment is inaccurate. While this new method would have to be specifically organised, it seems far more likely to me than luckily stealing the avatar off a dervish every time when you happen to be a dervish yourself with sufficient mysticism. Granted, it's not a very good combo as you would only get 5 seconds to kill the target with Assassin's Promise and a 50% miss chance with Oath Shot, but I still think it more likely than the shot with simple thievery. 130.216.56.188 22:02, 18 September 2007 (UTC)

I Agree, I am removing that. If anyone wants to change it back, please give a valid reason first. Matthewmorete 21:24, 8 December 2007 (UTC)

March 6 update[edit]

Now it seems to work also on Monster Skills. Don't really know if this was an intended feature or simply a bug. -- Talk to me Beren (Talk | contribs) 22:07, 6 March 2008 (UTC)

I too am hearing this. Kurzicks are stealing Siege attack from turtles in FA and using it.--Ryudo 22:30, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm 90% sure this is a bug...Although besides aspenwood this wouldn't affect pvp anyway..But still I plan to abuse this every second till its changed!.
It didn't steal Giant Stomp for me. Not sure if my Norgu got to it first, though. ~Seef II <|۞> 23:48, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
Just stole and used Bear Form. W00t. 68.119.21.198 00:39, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
its sad that the best thing in the update is a bug because using this skill on monster skills is more fun than anything else --Zealous 00:57, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
This is fixed. --Link4all 01:48, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
hope some people got nice screenies of using monster skills--Ryudo 01:49, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

LOL, anyone tryed this on Ghostly heroes in HA ?

Wow..it's fun being a Chromatic Drake. -AyaStowar

I posted a thread about it in a friendly guild's forum, feel free to take a gander at the screenshots if you missed out on the bug: http://www.guardsofthegate.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2624 76.105.214.102 06:27, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

Its a bug to steal monster skills?...Inspired Hex does bugs? Ignore this question, just been naive, but really, its a bug to steal monster skills?...maybe abusive in Fort Aspenwood, other than that...--ShadowFog 12:17, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

So it's fixed or should I try? ;) 83.131.92.149 12:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
Yes it is fixed. On another note, the time the skill is yours is also tied with the scaling right? Silly anomalies. BlazeRick 13:36, 7 March 2008 (UTC)
fixed? OHNOES! it'd have been so 1337 to get Base Defense! KABOOOM! —ZerphatalkThe Improver 02:26, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
or Spectral Agony! We could have found out whether monsters are infused or not. Are Mursaat protected from they own skills, or not? argh, we'll never know. D: —ZerphatalkThe Improver 02:35, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
Actually, in this case we do know. Mursaat and Jade are not infused, as can be seen during the bonus of Thunderhead Keep mission. -- Sai 16:25, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
You are right, they aren't infused judging from that bonus. I didn't want to actually try to interrupt Spectral Agony with Simple Thievery though. Although I could have left that to Norgu. Silly Norgu and his 1ms reaction time. >_> 76.105.214.102 17:58, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
or Vengeance is Ours :D

I wonder what would happen if you tried to use ooze combination or division... F1restar 08:45, 24 December 2011 (UTC)

Bug?[edit]

Doesn't seem to be able to steal ranger bow attacks. Primarily Cripshot & Burning Arrow — ( ɔ \ ʇ ) uɐɥʇıǝɹ Reithan Sig.jpg 16:40, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

I got the patch, I missed the bug :< I feel so left out....

buff[edit]

To give this spell another edge to it and make it more versatile, how about this rework?

Elite Spell. Interrupt target foe's action. If that action was a skill, that skill is disabled for 5...17...20 seconds, otherwise the last skill used by target foe is disabled for 5...17...20 seconds. Simple Thievery is replaced by that skill for 10 seconds.

Use it as an interrupt or post-Diversion (though shorter disable time), very good control over the skill you steal, it's not random and it's not limited to slower casting things. And a shorter steal time because I felt the duration was more at odds with itself - it means you can't use Simple Thievery again. The chances are IF you intend to use the skill you steal, you will only get 1 use out of it, so it was really just serving to lengthen the recharge at high Domination Magic. I haven't put this on Izzy's page because I don't think it's high priority and he gets enough spam on there already, I just wanted to hear what people thought, whether that would be better/worse/overpowered or no change needed. --Lytel 17:37, 1 May 2008 (UTC)

its fine in its current state. go wub itOni 12:15, 11 May 2008 (UTC)

The best buff'd be a re-introduction of the bug. Fix the crashes and is at least fun. Noctarch 12:06, 4 July 2008 (UTC)

Interrupt target foe's action. If that action was a skill, that skill is disabled for 5...17...20 seconds, and all skills that share the same attribute are disabled for 5...10 seconds. Simple Thievery is replaced by that skill for 20 seconds. A concerned citizen 19:40, 20 September 2008 (UTC)

lolwutspowerblock? That would be so over-powered it wouldn't even be funny. However, I agree that this needs a buff. Stealing a skill that you don't have the atts for is kind of pointless when we already have Power Block. I wish it still stole monster skills. I don't know why that was a bad thing :/ Karate User Karate Jesus sig.png Jesus
I love ST, its very effective as you can steal non-spells/chants--particularly Res Sigs. I've saved many an RA/TA/HA match by stealing an extra res sig.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 21:54, 11 June 2009 (UTC)
What this skill really needs is a way to be able to use the skill stolen effectively. Since you wasted an elite on this, you can't use the other useless elite. -- Halogod35 User Halogod35 Sig.jpg 06:07, 21 June 2009 (UTC)
This is a terrible skill in its current state. It is like d-shot, but wastes your elite, requires spec for disabling time, costs double energy, and diversions itself if you interrupt something with it. It even deals less damage! ;~; <>Sparky, the Tainted 23:33, 7 July 2009 (UTC)
How about combining with this skill with: Symbols of Inspiration.

How would it look like? Well: Skill description: Elite Spell. Interrupt target spell. If that action was a spell, that spell is disabled for 1...3...5 seconds, and Simple Thievery is replaced by that spell. Spells you cast use your Fast Casting attribute instead of their normal attributes. In this way its like power Block but disables it for a shorter time but more powerfull 2 since you can now spam someone elses elite skill.Rupsie 11:34, 18 September 2010 (UTC)

Res Sig[edit]

I just managed to steal a res sig in RA but when I stole it I had no dead allies, by the time I did, I had lost his unused sig. Does anyone know if when he gets his sig back, does it stay used if I had ressed an ally? (edit: Incidentally I just stole one and used one but I stole dont know if he got it back used or unused) Puk 11:56, 10 July 2012 (UTC)

No, it would remain unused. You don't actually steal skills with Simple Thievery. You interrupt and disable them and then obtain a copy for that duration. While the flavoring of the skill is theft, it's merely irrelevant fluff. I don't think the Guild Wars engine could even support actual theft with its current functionality, though you'd have to ask a developer to be certain. MA Anathe 13:35, 10 July 2012 (UTC)
