Talk:Straight to the Heart
Pretty hard quest compared to the Dwayna one. The Grentches do not attack until you have aggroed the snowmen by walking deep into their aggro zone - which is quite dangerous. Then they did not respawn after a while, and I had to fight Freezie... brrr! Ideally done with a Ranger or Ritualist, as a Necromancer you have a silly skill you cannot use (suicide skill), and there are no rez shrines. --Longasc 01:18, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Really? I thought the Dwayna one was far harder. As well, I think the best profession for all of the Holiday UW quests is a Monk. Second heal can be very useful.-Warior kronos 02:49, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- I keep getting stuck at the part with the Ice Dart Traps and the Angry Snowman. -- Gordon Ecker 11:54, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Patience - use ice fortress. Slows you down a lot but works. Then it got harder as all I had left after some more encounters was Grentchus Magnus - me and him vs Freezie and too many guys with hidden rocks...^^ About Dwayna being harder... cannot agree to that. Dwayna does not take that much time, and you do not have the problem of passive allies. --Longasc 15:52, 24 December 2007 (UTC)
- Dwayna is incredibly easy. You are only forced to actually kill 2-3 enemies. You can just run to the end and then let the self-rezzing Freezie and gang take out the grentches. This one takes a heck of a lot longer and is much harder.--68.93.62.215 21:27, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
- I have to agree, considering all other wintersday quest, this one is really hard and just an annoyance that has to be done. The quest really ticks me off, as it's just the secret snowman lair over again, nothing have been done to make it fit to the event, exept adding grentches. I really hope Anet will change this next year as it's not a fun wintersday quest (as i just lost my 10th+ try, I am really annoyed[pissed off] by this quest). 86.52.205.91 18:31, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- The key is to use the Grentches kinda as minions. Get them close enough to overwhelm the enemy. Early on (or against larger groups) charge in first, get agro and use Ice Fort to soak up damage while the snowmen get iced. --JonTheMon 18:36, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- I managed to beat it. Using the grentches as minions is the way to go. Memorize where minions spawn, and don't forget that unlike necro minions these guys regenerate. Wait after each fight for them to regen, and rush in, use Ice Fort, then run back out when it's over unless they're all dead. It's still a heck of a lot harder than the "good" side.--68.93.62.215 19:29, 22 December 2008 (UTC)
- I think its very easy and done in 10 minutes. The chance of getting a miniature is so low that in my opinion its better to spend 2-3 minutes more and get about 40 candy cane shards per run.. YouTube video Asuka 06:16, 25 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ace video clip. Someday all walkthroughs will look like this. Shard drops are close to double the Dwayna quest. The Waldo 15:40, 26 December 2008 (UTC)

Repeatable Quest?[edit]
It should be noted that while this quest is repeatable, it alternates availability with the Dwayna quest. Once you complete one of them, you have to complete the other before the first becomes available again. Zoning does not make the quest available (I have tried this repeatedly). This is a bummer for some as the Grentchy quest can drop upwards of 30-40 cane shards while the Dwayna one drops maybe 20. 207.225.93.33 21:04, 24 December 2007 (UTC) Grey Anangke
- Actually, you can't do it again if you have Strength of Snow (Dwayna quest) activated. You can have it in your quest log, but if you've talked to the Rift Warden about the Dwayna quest again, and have started that quest (without having gone into the lair yet), you can't get Grenth quest again. Just abandon the Dwayna quest, change districts, and get the Grenth quest again. Wombatt 20:04, 21 December 2008 (UTC)
Trivia Note[edit]
I'm not so sure "You're as cold as ice" is actually a reference to anything...it seems to simply be a comment based on the perceived cruelty of wanting to roast the snowmen (IE calling someone "cold" for being mean).

- Actually, I think "cold as ice" is very likely a reference, but how is "Snowmen heads will roll" connected to sleepy hollow? "Heads will roll" is a fairly common phrase.67.246.54.73 15:34, 20 December 2008 (UTC)
You encounter the term "heads will roll" more commonly than you encounter the term "cold as ice"? lol Sorry, Unless the person who wrote it says it was a reference to the song, I don't think it is. Both phrases are common and either reference is equally likely/unlikely.
Trivia Note 2[edit]
"Straight to the Heart" might be a reference to the song "Interpol - Pioneer to the falls", quoting "...You fly straight into my heart...".
Disease[edit]
Has anyone seen a green cloud or a snowman using Yellow Snow? Something near the Angry Snowman causes diseaes, but I can't identify the source. -- Gordon Ecker 07:27, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- It looks like the two traps cause conditions randomly. They also cause Dazed. Jarus 17:00, 26 December 2007 (UTC)
- They also seem to remove your glyphs. --24.179.151.252 07:02, 1 January 2008 (UTC)
Oh, I see what it is now. It's the bug w/ dungeon traps in general; where the damage gets attributed to players or other allies. Game thinks you attacked yourself or an ally; triggering the snowball glyphs; leading to target ally being diseased or kd + dazed. --24.179.151.252 21:42, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
- I've been seeing the Disease as well... and then it spreads to all the Grentches, I've had some runs that I leave that area with only 3 or 4 Grentches after they are plague-stricken, and since they run around and reinfect each other *sigh* Adeira Tasharo 02:26, 30 December 2008 (UTC)

If you die, does it count as a death?

Walkthrough[edit]
There seems to be ongoing tweaks on the update for this, the AI has been tweaked to not attack the player if there are grentches in range. Certainly it is much easier than when it first appeared. Anyhow, I'm unsure how elaborate a walktrough for a quest that's only around for a few weeks each year ought to be, please trim bits that really should go in the notes subsection. Hopefully this is a happy medium between vague and concise. Thanks goes to JonTheMon for pointing out my feeble first edit here ;-). —The preceding unsigned comment was added by The Waldo (talk • contribs) at 14:39, December 26, 2008 (UTC).
- My original walkthrough map with key points can be found here. any comments welcome, it was too messy on the Quest box to live. The Waldo 15:06, 26 December 2008 (UTC)
Underwater[edit]
Worth noting that pressing M shows this (and I assume Strength of Snow) to occur in the unlikely location of underwater southwest of the Crystal Desert? Manifold 01:32, 21 December 2009 (UTC)
Ice wall with foes in it.[edit]
I killed a few freezies within an ice wall where the map is. (I never find the map though) I get drops in the wall but I can't go through it. Is this a bug or a programmed ambush?Yumiko ^,~ 05:16, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
- Quite a regular bug with that quest - on the plus side if you complete the dungeon quick enough then the drops should be in the reclaim items window :) File:User Chieftain Alex Chieftain Signature.jpg Chieftain Alex 12:06, 17 December 2011 (UTC)
