Talk:Wintersday Hat Giver
Older Wintersday Hats?[edit]
I joined this game in 2007 and don't have access to older hats which were given out in previous events. It's a bit of a bummer because some of those hats are quite tasty, and now since they're also considered part of a Costume, can be worn over existing headgear/armor. It's just a thought, and I brought this up in conversation with many other players during this past redux of Wintersday event and the overall concensus was epic... is it possible for the Wintersday Hat Giver to issue these older hats from previous events? A quantity of shards for an older hat seems like a fair price, or even if he offers a unique quest in order to obtain a specific hat. Could it be done? 120.29.33.4 13:56, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- Forgot who said it, but one of the Anet staff once said they wouldn't have previous hats given in-game or sold through the store. Think it was something to do with it being unfair to players who had been their for that specific occasion and saw the hats as a prestigious item (or something). Of course things always change, and I could be totally mis-paraphrasing... ~Celestia 14:19, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- I just think it interesting that there's a special NPC created, a separate dialog screen or whatever it's called, a shard collection for these current hats... they've gone to all this trouble, and it just seems to be a waste of time to create something like this NPC, just for these hats (which IMO aren't a shade on what the older hats were, and why newer players to the game want the older hats so much). It occurs to me that there's a bit of double-standardism happening with these hats, whereas if you weren't at this redux event you're given the opportunity to get the hat AFTER the event, and you can't do this with any other hat. Also seems like these current 'newer' players aren't as likeminded with the prestigiousness of these newer hats. To my mind, the older hats suited the male characters better, and the newer ones sort of suit more female characters. They might look good on certain characters but they're not my kind of thing, whereas the older (inaccessible, 'prestige') hats very much are. But with these older hats, most of the newer players drool over the likes of the pumpkin head and the santa hat (whatever it's called). I guess it's not just Wintersday hats, but also Halloween, Dragon Festival, Day of the Tengu, etc. It really does make me wonder just who it's being unfair to. 120.29.33.4 16:24, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- It doesn't matter how much you like these new hats. The ONLY reason this NPC is here is because anet wanted to be absolutely sure everbody got their wintersday hat after their failure at the original event. And why are you even bothering writing this? anet never reads talk pages 85.214.73.63 16:31, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- This was done to make up to players who experienced any one of the myriad of problems that occurred in this year's Wintersday celebration. People not able to log in due to the issues with the new security question, as well as the problems with the hat distribution during several of the original finale events. There is no reason that a player who did not participate in a previous festival should have the hat that was given out. -- Wyn talk 16:32, 8 February 2010 (UTC)
- If you feel strongly about it though, you can feel free to register an account, create a feedback page, and submit a suggestion for the developers' consideration. -- Wyn talk 16:35, 8 February 2010 (UTC)

update it?[edit]
Should it be updated to show makes halos and horns now? Or do we need a Wintersday Hat Giver (2009) and Wintersday Hat Giver (2010)? The dialogue is last year's though, so he still talks about the ice hats, but its halos and horns that are shown. Ramei Arashi 15:48, 2 January 2011 (UTC)
I wish this Wintersday Hat Giver could also provide Hats from the past Wintersdays. I wouldn't mind if they upped the price to 250 Shards per Wintersday Hat if the stock was from all the past ones also - Yuletide Cap/Grenth Horns, etc.
- Yeah. I sure would like the Yule Cap, Freezie Crown and Antlers. I didn't play GW when those hats were given. But what's gone is gone I guess. 85.19.140.9 10:47, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- I prefer limited series, makes the older hats special, granted I do have the first and second runs of hats (they seem to be the most desired) so i'm a little biased but I have missed a few years when I was on a break from GW and i'd rather that they all stay limited, it's kinda a badge of how long you've been playing. Since minis are tradeable festival hats are the only way to show your 5 years. Lyra Valo 13:37, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
- It's kinda odd that the Horns of Grenth is more prestige than Great Horns of Grenth... Off-topic: Leet posting date Lyra. --Toroquin 11:39, 4 January 2011 (UTC)

The Hatter[edit]
I noticed a good idea in the discussions here, and I attempted to improve and little reformulate it. When we obtain the festival hat participating in special events or just after from the Hat Giver, this hat is a result of mass production, made for wearing in current season. It's well, but some people want more, they would like to wear the old-fashion hats from past seasons, which cannot be a mass production at all. So, we need the Hatter, who will be able to satisfy such demand, but of course such work requires a lot of qualification and obviously cannot be cheap. Probably you understood the idea: this NPC is able to make the desired old-fashioned hat in exchange for some materials and money (Zaishen coins etc.), enough to count this hat really valuable. It would be much better if the Hatter has a magic mirror through which we are able to see our new look before acquiring a hat and, hence, to make a right choice (I mean a magic mirror like Anatomical Engineer Llye has right now). --Slavic 14:25, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Not still available?[edit]
Not sure if this guy was ever a part of Wintersday 2010 - I was out of the country by Christmas. I have some spare CC shards, but I can't find this guy anywhere. Can anyone confirm he was removed? I don't see the Wintersday CC collectors than the 1/6 update says were left in either. 69.24.179.187 14:29, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- he's there trust me... --The Holy Dragons 15:39, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- The hatter is probably easier to find in Kamadan. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:05, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- He is not in either city.--99.104.5.211 21:58, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

- It appears that all the CC shard collectors have disappeared. I don't see the W's day gift giver in GToB, the weapon/hat givers in Kam or LA. I checked all the spots I could find them before. I don't remember them being removed after an update, so maybe they were on some sort of timer.
- Last year, the hat giver stayed until Canthan New Year. However, most of the festival hat givers remain only for 7-10 days after the event ends...and your first post (above) was over 10 days since the W's Day Finale and over 7 days since the drops stopped. You can try posting a bug report, but my guess is that this was intended. Sorry that they left before your return — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:19, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, I figured that's what happened, but this page needs to be fixed before other people come online to find out that no, they really CAN'T get the absolute most amazing headgear ever to be in the game, despite what the wiki says.--99.104.5.211 22:22, 12 January 2011 (UTC)

- You can be bold and fix stuff like this, especially if you are the first person to notice/confirm. I've updated several articles to adjust the listed dates. We were going by what happened last year, when the hat giver was around for weeks. We, unfortunately, assumed that it would be the same this year. So, if you see another article with incorrect info, please change it (you don't have to join the wiki to do that, except for very few articles).
- Thanks for pushing to get this confirmed/updated. And sorry the timing wasn't in your favor. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 22:32, 12 January 2011 (UTC)
Gah, this sucks. I wish they had changed the guy's dialogue because he still said he would be around until the end of the Canthan New Year.
