Move proposal[edit]

I'd suggest {{userlink}} rather than 'report' because there are situations that it might be useful aside from just reporting a user/ip. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 12:29, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

I think IP works the best as it's easy to remember and most of the people on the Notice Board who are reported are IPs.--§ Eloc § 13:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I'd prefer {{user}} or {{userlink}}. - anja talk 13:50, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

iawtc?--§ Eloc § 15:41, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
I agree with the camels. The camels know everything. --Indecision 05:35, 12 December 2007 (UTC)
userlink. -- Gem (gem / talk) 16:02, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
userlink is good. Eloc, check BeX's page regarding iawtc ;) -- ab.er.rant sig 16:18, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Ok, so BeX is the World Trade Centers? ;P--§ Eloc § 22:29, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
Eloc, do you wave to camels? And userlink is perfectly fine, it'll take a few days to get used to however. Calor - talk 00:29, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
No, can't really say I wave to camels as I've never seen them here in Canada.--§ Eloc § 03:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)
In non-reporting situations, I don't see any purpose for the block or block log links. Maybe it could be split into report and userlink. -- Gordon Ecker 03:40, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I agree with Gordon. This is for prominently displaying block options. As such, it's unsuited for a more general name. Backsword 04:09, 31 October 2007 (UTC)

I never use the links of this template to block a user/ip. Sysops should always check on the contributions of the 'perpetrator' before doing anything. At the moment this template's name is just wrong, since it is also used to give quick access links to pages of non-anonymous users.
In response to Gordon: how about a change in this template so that block and block log are removed from the template altogether? (Or perhaps make those links only available through a parameter? ({{userlink|y}}) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 13:26, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't think we need a link like this without block links; I would like to see this template moved to {{report}} as this is probably the best solution for this. poke | talk 14:30, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Actually, I happen to agree with CoRrRan here - the block link shouldn't be used, and thus in the cases where this template is currently being used (most frequently GWW:ADMIN as of current) the block link shouldn't be included either. The point here poke is not to have two separate versions, but to actually eliminate the block link entirely from the template. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 14:34, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Normally I open the contribs and the block link with one tab for each link, so I can look first at the contribs and then switch to the block tab to block :P But as the contribs contains the block link already, I'm fine with the removal.. poke | talk 14:58, 11 November 2007 (UTC)
Sure, I go to contributions first, then go to block from the contributions window. -- Gordon Ecker 00:23, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
I think {{IP}} is the simplest to use & easiest to remember. — Eloc 06:07, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

So what shall we do now? poke | talk 11:23, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Ya, it seems topics seem to die if no one follows through with it. I've said it before and I've said it again, {{IP}} works fine for me and it's extremely easy to type and remember. — Eloc 16:51, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

(Reset indent) I'm happy with either {{report}} or {{user}} (and maybe {{userlink}}). Seeing as I don't/can't block people I'm unconcerned about removing the block link. I agree that IP is not entirely correct. --Indecision 05:40, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

I vote we use {{user}}, if we even change this. If not, I'm fine with {{IP}}. It's easy to remember :P — Eloc 06:14, 12 December 2007 (UTC)

Moved. Feel free to continue using {{IP}} if you like to. poke | talk 15:23, 23 March 2008 (UTC)

Are you going to have an icon for this too? --People of Antioch talk User People of Antioch sig.png 22:02, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
As this was only meant to link to specific users, and even more users at once can be displayed, I did not planned an icon.. poke | talk 22:39, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
Better get going, then, eh? You know how much you love icons... :P --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 00:13, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
No, an icon doesn't fit here imo. This template allows the usage inline of text so for example when I talk about Brains12 (talkcontribslogsblock log) I don't need to put the links in a new row. I can just write. When there now is an icon in front of it, it would look messy (imo). poke | talk 10:07, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
Yeah, I'd prefer it like that as well to be honest :P --User Brains12 Spiral.png Brains12 \ Talk 15:34, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

Add an example?[edit]

I would like to see the result of an example or two.  While I can look at the code and figure out what this template does, not everyone can.      mtew 12:33, 19 December 2008 (UTC)

People who can't are exceedingly rare. -User Auron csig.png Auron 12:39, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, but I fail to see the reason for an example - at the very top of the page, you can see the "example" with User:Example (as the template defaults to that name), and people should be able to imagine what happens when you change the name there. And what the blocklog parameter does should be obvious from the parameter description - if not people can always test templates yourself using show preview for example. poke | talk 12:44, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
My Bad!  Suggestion withdrawn.  poke is right.  I missed the first line.      mtew 18:42, 19 December 2008 (UTC)
