I am not your superior, I am no better than you. You are no better than the men or women you might one day kill. We are all peers and equals on this planet. In my troop you will not stand in the line of battle with me, you will not provide a shield for our phalanx, you will not so much as touch a sparring weapon until you've purged that excitement from your blood and replaced it with solemnity and humility.

— Fjola

Abandoned by her reckless, nameless parents at birth, she was plucked from her orphanage and conscripted into youth training to one day become a full-fledged Sunspear. Suffering hardship from the moment she first beheld Istan's blue skies, this broken and desperate girl wanted nothing to do with war and fled from Istan, stowing away on a ship bound for Kryta. From Kryta she trekked aimlessly into the Shiverpeaks, her only wish being a numb death and salvation from her thought flooded mind. It wasn't long before she collapsed, face first into the snow.

She was found by a Norn huntress, unconscious and barely alive. With haste and perhaps miracles on her side, the huntress managed to save the poor girl. Bringing her back to her remote cave-home, the girl was revitalized with tender care. The huntress scorned her harshly when she felt she could handle it and managed - with difficulty - to convince the girl her death wish was foolish.

In the years that followed, the girl and the huntress bonded deeply. She was taught how to hunt; how to survive in the harshest conditions; how to be mindful of every action and moment, and how to reign in her turbulent mind. On cold cliffs and in frigid valleys where their next meal awaited, they were mentor and student. Otherwise, they were mother and daughter. "Fjola" found it impossible to express how grateful she was for the second chance she was granted and for the wise soul who guided her through her darkest hour.
