Templates[edit]
Hey, could I ask about something that's got me a little interested :P? What are the XXXX templates and images for? -- Brains12 \ talk 20:14, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I am building a table for my characters to keep track of how far they are in the game
- Ah, well we already have tables for such a thing (and they're a little more sophisticated and easier to use); Template:Progress bar will let you show your characters' titles, progress and whatnot. Also, for future reference, userpage templates and images for just one user generally need to be named appropriately, as explained at Guild Wars Wiki:User pages. Have fun :) -- Brains12 \ talk 20:19, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
that doesn't work... that is a percentage. see my table i am building atm. User:Elric Coy/tables/prophecies guardian I need to be able to keep track of which missions I have done. Probably makes more sense when you see how the chart works. If I need to move these somewhere else let me know.
- Ok, although I think you'd be able to achieve the same effect with code - it'd be easier to adjust and mean less to upload and maintain. Anyway, if you intend to use those templates and images, you'll need to move them to your userspace: the template pages should be named "User:Elric Coy/<name>", and the images should be named "Image:User Elric Coy <name>.jpg". -- Brains12 \ talk 20:26, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
code? I'd rather be able to do it with code... could you point me in the right direction?
- Why not just use mission icons? like ?--JonTheMon 20:33, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
size... can you imagine staring at a graph of 300 something tiny icons... this makes it easier to see who has done what and where. especially when you have four different storylines to keep track of.
<div style="background:gray; width:50%"> </div>
works (part of the code isn't showing up here, so click edit and copy the code to ensure you get all of it). -- Brains12 \ talk 20:36, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
that only works if you are working on progress... how do you report if you have done a mission in normal mode, done its bonus in normal mode, and then done the bonus in hm but not the whole mission? XXxX
- How about ? --JonTheMon 20:41, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Same problem as I stated before... 10 characters times 30 something missions is a grid of 300+ little tiny icons. This is meant for ease of readability on the chart.
- Uh, I'm a little confused as to how your system works, but going off your key, you could put the same bit of code but with "white" instead of "gray" (and a shorter width), then the gray code again. -- Brains12 \ talk 20:46, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Gray bars don't seem to be very readable to me. Like if you had them separated out well, you could do it.
if you saw the piece of graph paper i have in front of me and how I have been filling it out you would see how this would work. How do I move those images to my user image space?
- I'm done trying to convert you. ;-) To "move" images you have to reupload them under the right name and get the old one deleted. --JonTheMon 20:55, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
TYVM... But I think 300 boxes filling up with 600 icons is going to make it difficult to keep track of. I will have the images deleted.
- I also have created a template for this that are much easier... User:Wynthyst/Template/MissionProgression, and there are many other templates available here. If you want to see mine used, check out any of my character pages. I know User:Y0 ich halt also has some nice templates for titles etc. -- Wyn 21:16, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
I checked out that link... thats great for one character. what if you are trying to keep track of ten characters on one page? With this I would be able to remove the /legendary_guardian files from each of my characters and save lots of space in the long run.
- That's cool Elric, I'm not saying you can't do it the way you wish. I was just making sure you knew there were LOTS of options. -- Wyn 21:38, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
Well... I got the images re-uploaded in the right places. And now the chart is up to date. User:Elric Coy/tables/prophecies guardian After I create one of these for Factions, and Nightfall I'll be able to remove 10 charts. 3 charts and a few grey bars and I can get rid of ten charts that didn't really have a clear progress indicator. Nightfall should be more fun as most of my characters have actually been all the way or most of the way thru.Elric Coy 22:12, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- I took your idea, and my template, and am working on a combination of the two template 2 :D hope you don't mind :D-- Wyn 22:25, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
good luck with it. keep in mind. the whole idea is to be able to look at a chart and see at a glance who has done what. key words here... "at a glance"... I have been thinking about this idea for a little bit and was thinking up could use larger file sizes to add a tiny bit of texture to the bars to make it easier to read them. hash marks? filled in boxes instead of simple grey bars?Elric Coy 22:40, 14 October 2008 (UTC)
- Here is what I came up with User:Wynthyst/Template/PropheciesMissionProgression. It combines protector and guardian into one template, using the images Jon pointed out. Again, I'm not saying you need to use it, I would just like your feedback. -- Wyn 15:16, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
Thats awesome looking. But now start entering information into it and see how clear it is and easy to read. I will be updating my Nightfall Mission list sometime later today or tomorrow so you can see a more filled out chart of mine. Yours looks good but I still have reservations on how easy it will be to tell what is missing and where. Keep in mind that if you have ten char's like me and you are close to being done or heck, even halfway done you will be looking for that one little icon that is missing one tiny sword. With my chart you are looking for that blazing white spot in a sea of grey.Elric Coy 15:39, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- Take a look at this. Those are actually based on 10 of my 11 characters. -- Wyn 15:41, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
looks nice.. so you have protector on ten chars and guardian on one? is that how I read that? I still say that scanning across all those images to see what is missing is goig to be hard on your eyes when you start really filling out this chart.Elric Coy 16:21, 15 October 2008 (UTC)
- You know, it's possible to have 1 template that can link to all of your images. Like, instead of SE and SM you could have SE and SM so you wouldn't have to maintain so many templates. --JonTheMon 16:53, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- how do I put them into one link?
- First, a tip for discussions like this. If you use : it can indent your comments. Use : for each level of indent you want. Second, you would have to use some DPL. I'm not too skilled at it yet, myself, but there are plenty of people here who are. Off the top of my head, Poke is good at it. --JonTheMon 16:59, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, I've been playing around with some template stuff. Here is my template. What it does is interpret a written number to a numeric number. You can see it on my userpage. --JonTheMon 17:16, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Did you want help making an encompassing template? --JonTheMon 20:10, 16 October 2008 (UTC)

Image caching[edit]
Actually, I am having difficulty with some of my images. I uploaded new "skins" for my bars and they keep reverting to the plain grey? Have I uploaded too many images? Do I have too many kB in my User Namespace? *scratching head confused? Elric Coy 20:12, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well, that's actually been an issue with images not updating correctly. Give it an hour or so and it *should* update. Another thing you can do is try to do a refresh or purge. and i actually just tried that and the images kept switching from the old to the new and back 8-| --JonTheMon 20:27, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, there are some major image caching issues when uploading new versions of images. Give it about an hour, and then if they still aren't appearing correction, start by clearing your browser cache, then purge the page (Ctrl+F5). That should knock them loose. -- Wyn 21:58, 16 October 2008 (UTC)
Mission.... quest..... thing[edit]
Hey, I've rolled all of your mission progression templates into one. Look here: User:JonTheMon/Templates/Missionbar If you want to use it, all you'd have to do is copy the code into a template in your namespace. --JonTheMon 16:36, 20 October 2008 (UTC)
Template:User KoabD[edit]
Whatever the changes you made yesterday to that template broke it and subsequently broke every page it was on. Please make sure you preview your changes before you save them. Thanks! -- Wyn 06:56, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
My apologies... I did preview and the samples I put on the page were working when I was done with them. How did I break it? Elric Coy 06:59, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- I'm not sure but it failed to load anything but a white screen, and every page it was on did the same. I removed your edits, and now it seems to be working fine, if you wish to go over what you did, that's fine, but especially on a public template that is used by so many you may want to copy it into your space before you make any major changes to it and test it completely first. -- Wyn 07:02, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- Like I said. It was working fine when I saved it. I had two samples up on the page and they worked perfectly. Elric Coy 07:03, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- I will have someone who is much better with the code than I take a look at the code and see if they can figure out what went wrong. It's not a big problem, since wiki is generally easy to fix :D I've just had half a dozen users contact me because their page wouldn't load, and the only thing they all had in common was that template. And I couldn't get the template to load either. -- Wyn 07:06, 2 December 2008 (UTC)
- I figured out what I did wrong... The examples are not inside of the noiclude. Maybe instead of just reverting you can help me figure out what I did wrong please? Please revert it back to my previous version and fix the location of the noinclude... here is proof User:Elric Coy/Sandbox3 *sandbox cleared problem fixed Elric Coy 07:12, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

Missions Page[edit]
Hey, Elric! I think I can help with your problem, I just need a bit more information. What borders, exactly, do you want turned off? Do you mean on the outside table or the individual column tables? Also, what sides of the table do you want off? I'll try my best to help once you respond. :) --orith is so fail 03:51, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- That was weird, don't know how I managed to get this on the wrong page. :P --orith is so fail 19:11, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, that's interesting... I don't usually use HTML to call my borders, I always do it via CSS. For whatever reason, the default HTML border isn't responding to the CSS too well. If you really want the specific layout you mentioned, I can switch it over to ridge borders if you want, it looks pretty similar:
As it is now
CSS ridge
- And then I think you'd be able to achieve what you're trying to do. I'm not quite sure why the borders aren't responding to changes they should, wiki markup can be a bit un-cooperative sometimes. --orith is so fail 19:56, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Ohh, now I see what you're trying to do. Gosh, that took me a while to figure out. Let me make some edits and I think it should work pretty well. --orith is so fail 22:41, 14 December 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm... well, I changed the templates to use ridge borders rather than default browser borders, and the gap is definitely less noticeable, but it's still there if you're looking for it. 1 is what I'm talking about, if you want to take a look. I think it definitely looks better, but it's your template so it's ultimately up to you to decide what style to use. --orith is so fail 23:03, 14 December 2008 (UTC)

Just a little something[edit]
Top of User:Rappy/Sandbox if you are interested. — Rappy 01:13, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Nope.. That was actually my first table. I made one exactly like that. User:Elric_Coy/templates/Mission_checklist It's ok for one character but as I said before... the whole idea is that this table is meant to be able to be used by anyone no matter how many characters they have or what their profession is. You can also compare your progress with other people's progress by simply making the chart on their character page an inclusion onto yours. The way I built the chart was meant to be very versitile in how it could be used. BTW, I fixed the problem with the charts not lining up. It was a text issue... check em out now... User:Elric_Coy/tables/nightfall_guardian2 Elric Coy 01:19, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
- Main space is even-stephen, but the top isn't even with the character names on my screen =p (clarify) The Mission header isn't even with the character name headers. — Rappy 01:24, 17 December 2008 (UTC)
Glad[edit]
Glad to see another roleplayer within the realm of guild wars. I hope to see you around in-game (I myself stick to the international districts); if you're ever up for RP I hope you hit me up in-game! MiraLantis 09:18, 10 January 2009 (UTC)
- Thank you for visiting my page. Yea.. I kinda RP but have found so few people to do it with that I keep 90% of my roleplay here on wiki. i.e. I spend time dreaming up semi plausible reasons for my characters to all interact when I am not controlling them and put it here on wiki. So far I've given a few of my characters a background but no real story yet. Elric is my main character (as if you couldn't tell from my username and my home page mentioning my favorite books. Image mapping[edit]
You might be interested in this conversation regarding the image mapping extention. I think it will answer some of your questions. I would not be too concerned about userspace storage (unless you plan to use giant images). -- Wyn 17:17, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- Or you could use the already existing navimg. -- Brains12 \ talk 17:24, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
- That article made a lot of sense. So, its a software issue and people are trying to figure it out. I guess until the link issue is fixed I will stick to Brains' and Kakarot's suggestion of using the navimg template.Elric Coy 18:07, 18 January 2009 (UTC)
