Problem statement
In GW1 Guild Allegiance is implemented on account level which has its disadvantages such as:
- Player can not be a part of different Guilds that are specializing in different types of play such as PvP or PvE or HA, for instance. Guilds that specialize in all the types of play are rare
- Player have to quit the guild in order to join another one and if he/she was an officer start all over or try to create own guild as a leader. This process is repeated every time for players who are in search of right Guild for their needs (see Guild Registry suggestion about satisfying search needs).
Therefore it is suggested that:
- Guild Allegiance will be allowed on character basis
- A list of all Guilds a player belongs to on an account level will be visible for any given character
- Why this is a good idea
- This will allow having characters that are specializing in different types of play aligned with the specific Guild preferable activities and try all the types of play without quitting and rejoining guilds. This is especially true for GW2 where character level is increased to 100 and it would take much more time to develop a character to its maximum level, which is presumably a goal for every player
- It gives more flexibility and more choices to make which makes a game itself more interesting. Player can try out a Guild with one character before becoming a full member (see Guild Hierachy for a suggestion on Pool/Apprentice Unit in a Guild).
- A player can be a Guild leader in one Guild and an ordinary member in another more reputable Guild and by extent she/he can be a guild leader in many guilds at the same time. This does not replaces the idea of having alliances because alliance hierarchy or alignment can be done differently, but it can allow having ‘conglomerates’ of friendly guilds by interests where Guild leaders of few Guilds can participate as officers in other ‘conglomerated’ guilds.
- This also works towards supporting an idea of character alignment (Good, Bad, Neutral, etc) , which if accepted will provide a way to join a Guild that consist of the characters aligned this way, allowing at the same time having characters that are aligned differently (may be you want to be Good or Bad for a change ;-)
- Why it may not work out
