Character pages

Those are really nice! I mean, you can tell that they mean a lot to you! Well done. I was recently made aware of a neat thing - {{W-color}}. Very useful, especially if you're going to do more character pages (which I really hope you do!) :) Thulsey 16:23, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Heh, lets see if this works, havent "talked" on Wiki before ;).. Anyways, yes that template is great. When I colored the table I copy-pasted the "right" colors (except Ritualist who got the "lighter" in stead of "light" background), guess I could have saved myself a little work there. Anyways, I wont do any more pages I think, to make them for the mules seems a little redundant. ;). --Lensor 19:28, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Character pages #2

Nice work you did there on the Character Pages!! I hope you don't mind if I create my own pages based on yours... they were a great help for me for getting familiar with templates on wiki. Gode Fridus 16:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! No problem, use it as is or base your own template on it. --Lensor 16:18, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Nice, new look :)

Just swung by the Dii forums. You were saying you wanted the table on the character pages to dynamically expand to fill the window like on the main page? Or the tabs? Not sure I comletely understand. Just making sure I'm not missing exactly what it is you're trying to achieve. Very late here and the tail-end of a long week, so my brain is a little soft, but if you would like I can poke around when I get a chance.

Really dig what's happening here. :) - Thulsey User Thulsey good.gif - talk 16:22, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Basically, you never have to scroll the main page sideways. The "top menu" as well as the bottom part scales with the resize, and stay the same width as each other (being in the same table). The "character pages" however will not resize, so if one makes the window too narrow one has to scroll sideways. Also, when the window is too big, the template part wont fill it completely. When the template page was "alone" it would resize fine with the browser width, so guess it something funny with putting the template into a table. But dont spend a lot of time on it, I will try to ponder a bit on it myself :).--Lensor 17:00, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Figured out why some character pages has to scroll sideways (stupid me), it is due to the heroes thumbs getting in the way (they dont linebreak). No biggie, just gonna have to be like that. And I "cheated" a little on the other pages, setting a color background in the table cell with the templates, so now everything "lines up" just fine. --Lensor 19:07, 1 June 2007 (UTC)
Excellent. I saw it, looks great. I've been wanting to play with some sort of tab system for a few days, and I like what you've come up with. Really nice to look at. Like the contributions one, especially. - Thulsey User Thulsey good.gif - talk 03:57, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

Character pages #3

Nice work on the character template. I have used it for my main characters. One thing I altered, though, was the navigation bar at the top -- the one with the links to the different character pages and back to your main user page and contributions. I took out the width specifiers in the table, and it now stretches out to fill the window, rather than have a white space to the right. I don't know if you wanted the white space, but figured I'd mention it. The width specifier acts... oddly, as far as I'm concerned. Make the width smaller, the cells for the character pages get wider. You can see what I mean on my character pages -- for example, Erin Blackthorn. I think this is what you're talking about in the last section, but not positive. --Nkuvu 17:05, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks :). Yes, it is kinda what I was talking about, it acts somewhat odd... The only thing is that I found that without the width modifiers, the navigation cells wont be of equal width as each other. I would like them to be though, hence the "cheating" on my part with the width midifiers and the background colors to eake up the "slack". But I do think I will do as you have done on the character pages though, seems easier that way :). Btw, I see that you still have the ranger color as background, so you get a sliver of green color at the bottom of each character page --Lensor 18:12, 3 June 2007 (UTC)

Character Template

I think it is time to say you did a great job with your Template. I love them as you might know after visiting my page ;). Just one simple question regarding the template: Where did I get to know my characters height after the character creation? --Keras Terune 17:09, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks! :) I dont know really. If you dont remember how you created it, I guess the only way is to go stand next to other people in game to see how you compare ;) If you have a free slot you could also crate a "tall" or "short" character, then see how they compare on the character selection screen.--Lensor 17:18, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks but then my describtion has to fit. ;) --Keras Terune 22:54, 6 June 2007 (UTC)

Template changes

Whee. Looks like a lot of fun to edit all the pages that use your template. Appreciate your correction to my character pages. I wouldn't have minded if you'd just left a note on my talk page to let me know that the template changed, but instead you went through the tedious task of editing all of my character pages in addition to a bunch of others. Nice job. ^_^ --Nkuvu 14:59, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

o.0 wow. Thanks. :) - Thulsey Zheng - talk 15:03, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Nemas problems, Cut-n-Paste FTW!--Lensor 15:35, 7 June 2007 (UTC)

Minor question about character tables modification

Hey bud! My pages are all up and running thanks to your awesome character pages! However, after I uploaded my pictures, some parts of the character box are not exactly where I want them to be. The pictures are big so it moved I think. I would like the profession symbol in the box with white background fully visible. But it has moved to the right, shrinked by screenie on some of my pages. Any ideas how to sort it out without messing up the rest? An example of what I mean can be seen at my paragon or warrior character page. I hope I wont have to re-upload the pictures, I am not too proficient with Photoshop too. If there isnt any other possibility, I will just leave it as it is. Its just a minor issue. Arcane Guardian 11 June 2007, 01:30 UTC+1

The images are too wide. If you'd like I can crop them for you and re-upload, that's relatively easy. --Nkuvu User Nkuvu sig button.jpg 01:45, 11 June 2007 (UTC)
Great stuff! :) Yes, it does not scale so well if the image is huge. It was Thulsey who did the actual nice-looking background with the profession symbols, so maybe he knows if there is any way to "fix" it. However, I think the best would be if you (or Nkuvu who made such a generous offer :P ) could crop the images, as it looks much better overall. with cropped images. --Lensor 14:01, 11 June 2007 (UTC)

Hey, my image problem will be solved soon in that case. Thanks for the advice. I catched Thulsey ingame shortly after my previous message and asked him the same question since both of you are Dii web experts :-). He said he will re-upload them for me. But, for the future usage, maybe you can tell me how to crop the images in Photoshop myself, I cant rely on the generosity of others forever. --Arcane Guardian

oO.. me, a web expert.. Anyways..what I do is to open the image in Photoshop. Then select the area I want to keep, and select "copy". Then make a new file and paste in the copied part. This file I will adjust the image size so that it will be approximately the final size (ie 10 cm or something). I may adjust the canvas size also if I want to fine tune the crop. Then I will choose "save for web". I will choose a JPG compression I am comfortable with, usually "medium" (try to keep the size as small as possible, under 100k). Save, and upload.--Lensor 15:00, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

User page talk

Hey Lensor, I hope you won't just abandon the discussion we're having at the user page policy. Please don't take Bex's comments too personally. She has a tendency to use rather strong words on issues that she opposes, but I'm sure she's not trying to be aggressive or attacking you. I really do hope some sort of resolution can be made satisfactorily (like convincing you to our point of view :P) rather than just stopping the discussion abruptly. I really do understand your point-of-view, but I'm just not comfortable with the wordings you used as they implied things that I don't think should be implied (replied at the talk page there). -- ab.er.rant sig 08:40, 12 June 2007 (UTC)

Character Pages #4

hehe love what you did to the site, i only wonder how to get those peofession icons into the background like you did, i would love to have that on my character pages as well :D -ArcticWind User:ArcticWind 11:08, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Thanks :) I actually dont know how to do just that, so got Thulsey to help me with it (he already had it on his character template). What I do know is that it has to do with CSS's (cascading style sheets). But you could always just copy my character template into your userspace and play around with it until it looks like you want it to.--Lensor 12:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
cool :P ill see what information i can extract from thrulsey then ;) i already tried messing with the template but it just got me more confused...now that i know its CSS used then it might turn on the lightbulb in my head ;) -ArcticWind User:ArcticWind 17:08, 13 June 2007 (UTC)

Userboxes

Aren't you going a little overboard in the number of user categories and userboxes? LOL, look at the number of categories your user page has! :D -- ab.er.rant sig 07:41, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

And there goes another one! :P Say, for {{User GWENbuy}}, do you think it would be better to reword it as "This user plans to buy the Eye of the North expansion."? On my resolution, that would fit in two lines, rather than the three lines it's currently at. -- ab.er.rant sig 07:55, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
It is not I that am in too many categories, it is everyone else that are in too few. If there is a category that fits, I should be in it, as should everyone if I had my way. Categories are our friends! Our friends I say! :D Anyways, they are all true, and I find them helpful, if for no other reason than to myself look for other users with similar interests as myself. :). Re: the userboxes, I have tried to make the layout clear, but I guess I could lose a userbox or two and just keep the categories. But I dont want to, I like userboxes. But this last one will have to be it I guess, otherwise I will become the Wiki's own "crazy userbox lady"...oO --Lensor (talk) 08:04, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
The GWEN userbox is at two lines at my comp at home as well as work, but I guess I could change it. --Lensor (talk) 08:04, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Nah, up to you, I'm not going to use it :P (at least, not yet) Maybe you need more userboxes to declare your love for userboxes, your thinking that everyone should have more userboxes, and to have the most userboxes :P hehe. Were you around in GuildWiki long enough to notice a user page aiming to have to most number of userboxes? I tried to find it but I can't remember who it was anymore. That fella had like a little over a hundred userboxes on it... -- ab.er.rant sig 08:43, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Heh - take a look at this one- worst part? That used to be on his main user page =\ MisterPepe talk 09:28, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Oo .. now that is a lot of userboxes. I have nothing to worry about then :P. (I must admit that I did find his userbox frenzy quite funny though). --Lensor (talk) 09:40, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

User Page

Hey I was wondering if I could use your user page template for mine? Of course I would give you credit for it. Thanks. - BTW, I'm also Swedish (tho not born there). ^_^ ~ ReaperAssassin-icon-small.png 02:08, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Sure thing, thanks for asking. That is why I put the userbox there :) --Lensor (talk) 07:05, 21 June 2007 (UTC)

Another User Page Request

My wiki formating skills are on the novice to intermediate level (i.e. I suck) so I was looking around for a nice User Page format to use and came across yours. I already jumped the gun and stuck it on my user page (with a few alterations) and gave due credit to you, but I'll take it down if that isn't savvy. :) --Cjad the Nord 19:31, 23 June 2007 (UTC)

Of course it is ok! Nice to see that people find my page helpful. I am a bit of a novice myself and have had great fun discovering the Wiki code, though some of the details in my coding I have no idea how it works, only that it does :P --Lensor (talk) 09:04, 24 June 2007 (UTC)
