Sylvari deletion/redirection
Hi, I saw you reverted my deletion tagging to the Sylvari article yesterday, and I'd like to know what exactly your reasoning was behind the statement "rewrite possibly, not delete". I believe that the article on Sylvari doesn't belong on GWW because they do not appear (or even exist) in Guild Wars, have no known relevance to the storyline (or indeed, anything else) to do with Guild Wars and now have an article on GW2W, which is ideally where we want to be putting articles on stuff that aren't around in Guild Wars. Imo, we are writing GWW from the point of view of someone living in 1078 AE (well, not literally, but you get the picture), and so keeping an article on something that won't exist for another 100 years makes no sense, especially now we have a better place to put it. --Santax (talk · contribs) 18:58, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- My reason was the we actually see the tree they are born from, so I think a short note on what they are and about that tree, and then a link to GW2W for the rest of the info would still be in place. Deletion would be a bad choice, imo. People will still search this wiki for info. If you disagree with keeping any kind of content on GWW, a link would be alot better. - anja 20:10, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- But the note is already on Ventari's sanctuary, I agree there should be some kind of redirect from Sylvari since people is going to come here to look information about them, but I agree with Santax that actually the Sylvari has no place, no action and do not exist on GW1 so, the page shouldn't have any content but a redirect in my opinion. How about redirecting Sylvari to Ventari's sanctuary#Notes? (and changing the notes link to gw2w). Coran Ironclaw 20:25, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, that would suit me :) I realised now that I should maybe have posted on the talk page there instead of just reverted the deletion tag, but I was on a deletionspree and didn't want to see it deleted. - anja 20:27, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- When I look on this wiki for "Sylvari" I would never expect a simple "note" on a location article.. poke | talk 21:53, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- Then a redirect to gw2:Sylvari? What do you expect to find in wiki about a race that do not exist yet and that there is no mention of it in all the game?-- Coran Ironclaw 22:59, 8 January 2008 (UTC)
- It is a plausible search term because the Sylvari were mentioned in press releases about EotN. I mean, that's why the article was created and everything. There are other things on this wiki that dont exist in game, but are mentioned in obscure dialogue. - BeX 01:03, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- Because there was no other place to put them in =p but now we have it. -- Coran Ironclaw 01:10, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- Since it has been mentioned before the release an in connection to EotN, I don't see the harm in having a short note here? I'm fine with just a link (not a redirect outside this wiki, we should avoid that), but I just want to know what harm it does. - anja 08:12, 9 January 2008 (UTC)
- well, I am not experienced managing content, so I am only posting my opinion =p. Maybe a little note with the link to gw2w. -- Coran Ironclaw 20:25, 9 January 2008 (UTC)

I noticed you put back that filth on our guild page. I would like it removed and whoever is putting it back on there to please stop doing so. I consider it an attack against our guild and its not right. I thought wiki frowned on that sort of thing. If you can I would like it to be reverted to the last update by me. I apologize if I come off a little angry but I am a bit this is the second time someone has edited our page with nonsense any help would be appreciated, Riatha Thorsdotter

- I'm sorry, it's a bit hard for someone not in the guild to see what is right and what is wrong about a specific guild, and I didn't pay enough attention to what content I readded, I just saw there was vandalism. You can easily revert yourself by going to the history tab, click on the date of the last good revision (one with your name on the line probably) and then press edit and save without doing anything else. That way you will overwrite any changes made since you edited last. - anja 21:31, 10 February 2008 (UTC)
- Its right now. Is there any way to make stop whats happening? I don't know a ton about wik lol :)
- An admin, like Anja, could ban the vandal from editing for a certain amount of time. You really can't do anything besides put a note on their talk page kindly asking them to stop. Calor 21:35, 10 February 2008 (UTC)

Novice looking for help
ANJA....the only reason I'm asking you this instead of someone else is because you were nice enough to leave me some feedback on one of my pages. I'm having difficulty getting one of my templates to work correctly. I have a main Template that uses 4 additional templates to calculate information for the main one. # of them are working just fine, but I can't understand what's going on with the 4th one. The 4th one is calculating the width of a cell for use in the main template and is coming up with the correct value, but when it's returned to the main template, it puts a line break in before it and the table cell doesn't generate properly. If you would please stop by my main page, I'd be happy to give a more clear explanation and the location of the template I'm talking about. Thank you very much. - If poke didn't fix it for you, point me to the template pages and where they are included and I'll see where it goes wrong :) - anja 08:21, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- Currently the template in question is located here. If you find out what the problem is, please let me know so that I can learn from the experience rather than have someone just do it for me. Thank you in advance for your help.Jfarris964 14:03, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm assuming the template with the problem is this one. The problem would seem to be the line break before and after the switch (the comment before the switch is removed, but not the line-break after the comment). MediaWiki feels like inserting
<p>
-tags every here and there and if you have a linebreak anywhere, MediaWiki makes sure to insert one there if there isn't one already. This essentially means that your template returns<p>100%</p>
and such. Try removing the linebreaks, though I can't promise that it would help. I have a feeling MediaWiki will still input those paragraph-tags there... — Galil 14:15, 11 February 2008 (UTC)- I'm not sure that the problem is actually with the TitleBarLength Template. The only reason I say that is because the calls to the other Templates are exactly the same, but they work just fine. I'm wondering if it's because of where I'm trying to use the Template call. I've been able to put something like {{{3}}} in there before and have it work, but that requires the user to calculate the bar length, thus making it less user friendly. Do you know of another way to accomplish the same thing? Jfarris964 14:22, 11 February 2008 (UTC)
- The problem is not the template, the problem is the way MediaWiki handles template content. The reason the problem only arises with the 4th template is since it's the only one where it matters if the return value is surrounded by paragraph tags. The only solution I can think of would be to add the whole style-tag to the template (should work since it works for {{STDT}}). That is, make the 4th template return the whole
style="background: #8866AA; border: 1px gray solid; height: 15px; " align="left" width="<width>"
string, with width replaced with the width you want. Then on the page where you want to use it, you would replace the whole style-attribute with just the call to the template. Hope I'm not too unclear. Let me know if I am. — Galil 15:16, 11 February 2008 (UTC)- I moved it to some sandboxes of mine to play with it so I could see what works and what doesn't :) You can see the template in User:Anja Astor/Sandbox/Jfarris and the result in User:Anja Astor/Sandbox. The only thing I did was to remove the multitude of linebreaks, since, as Galil says, MediaWiki basically does weird things with them. I moved the comment code start up just after the end of the real code, and then added all linbreaks inside the comment code. That way you still have it formatted but MediaWiki doesn't read it at all. I hope this can help you some, it seems to work. - anja 15:42, 11 February 2008 (UTC)

Dye Gallery help
Hey Anja,
Errr... I've started a new wee wiki project for myself, however i think i might be making an arse of it and need some help on formatting guidelines and the like. I've decided to take over from where liche seems to have left off with the armour dye galleries and im currently working through the necro ones. I've got all the screensaves I need for the elite armours for both genders, now just going through the very long and labourious task of cutting them out and compiling them into sets of images, which takes ages. However before i progress further, I would like to ask you for some tips on the formatting. such as is it okay for me to use liche gallery format? Once the preview gallery is uploaded, what other pages should i link it to? Also I added the note on this page: Necromancer_Elite_Luxon_armor, but i dont like how I've made the page look now, can you think of a better way for me to point out the graphical errors with that armour or if I even should be doing so? I'm asking you all this, as I noticed you did a see also thing on Necromancer_Elite_Necrotic_armor, so you already have an idea what im on about. My aim is over the next month to add the dye preview gallery for all the elite armours in the game but in doing so i want uniformity throughout the pages im linking too and adding, so i just need some guidlines to work too. For an exmaple of what ive done thus far just have a wee gander at my contributions over the last 3 days or so. anyhoo sorry for asking all this, i'm normally more coherent, but ive been working on this all night so my heads a bit cabbaged. (EDIT: oh also i'm kinda crap with wiki policies, as i get confused as to what i should be sticking too, so i'm really unsure if my images that ive uploaded are conforming to wiki policy; if you could have a wee gander for me and tell me, as i would hate to get to the end of this project and then have to reupload everything due to policy violations. I do know that a few of them are a bit on the big side, but due to the nature of the image, it being a preview of armour details and all, i hope that its understandable, as i dont want to reduce the size of the image as it will lose detail which is kinda needed for these galleries to be useful.) Regards -- Salome 12:11, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes, this is basically my idea too. Move the gallery pictures onto the normal galleries. This way we have less problems with links, and all related images collected on one page, easy to find for viewers :) The way you have it formatted in tables looks fine, so it's a copy paste. About naming, I think we should strive to follow the name scheme we already have, so I would suggest something like Image:Necromancer Elite Necrotic armor m blue overview.jpg for the blue overview for males, for example. And reuploading, just poke me and I'll help you with it, if needed.
And lastly, about the note. I would but it below the crafting table in a section like "see also" but with the header notes instead, and word it something like "There are clipping issues with the collar blabla. See the galleries for pictures and examples." I hope all this made sense, just ask if it didn't :) - anja 12:47, 21 February 2008 (UTC)- Thanks guys, thats really appreciated! okay one more wee thing and sorry for being a noob with this, but how do i go about deleting the pages that i no longer need now, such as Male_Necromancer_Elite_Necrotic_Dye_gallery, Male_Necromancer_Elite_Luxon_Dye_gallery and Female_Necromancer_Elite_Luxon_Dye_gallery and also all the images i uploaded? As im gonna do as you suggested and reupload all the images under a different name to conform more with standard naming policies. Err... also anja i know im pushing my luck but could you fix the note thingy i did about the grapical glitches as honestly im not really confidant enough to put in a new section in the main armour page incase i somehow lose information or in some way muck up the page (complete wikiaphobe here at times), also as im so completly knackered i doubt any sentence i attempt will actually make much sense. Oh on an aside, as i was basically using liche's formatting for my galleries, does that mean i should adapt hers too to conform with what you suggested or should i leave that up to her to do in her own time? As i dont wanna tred on anyones toes here. -- Salome 13:08, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- To mark stuff for deletion, you place a deletion template on the page, like this
{{delete|Reason for deletion}}
. Then an admin will get there and delete the stuff :) And you do the same with images. I'll fix the note if you wish, you should know though that you are free to try as you will as any mistake is so easy to correct since wiki saves all old versions of a page. I think the galleries Liche have made should also be incorporated to this design, and I don't think Liche would have anything against you doing that. The information is still there, and even more accessible so I think it's ok. - anja 14:46, 21 February 2008 (UTC)

Why keep those guild pages? They were only created from a random user within that alliance who just clicked on the link and odds are they will never go back to the page and add content. So why wait 6 months for it to be deleted? — ク Eloc 貢 03:34, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
- Because it doesn't do any harm to wait 6 months, and we can give them the chance to actually fill it up, if they want to. - anja 08:03, 1 March 2008 (UTC)
