Builds[edit]

"Yes. Shut this door before the "it works for me in Random Arenas" builds start coming. Delete." I love this comment. We think alike. Clever how you redirected to usertalk, I like that. I'm going to steal that idea. --Narcism 15:23, 12 February 2007 (PST)

>grins< I like the idea of the builds section. If a precedent is set for smacking down random RA and AB and PvE builds upfront it'll make the section have so much more utility. --Aspectacle 15:30, 12 February 2007 (PST)

Template and Parser[edit]

You might want to try replacing the | with {{pipe}} when they are used in the table making code. That might get the parser to work in the template, at least it did here :) — Anja 19:44, 14 March 2007 (EDT)

It seems that the parser functions stuff needs more thought than I can apply right now particularly when it involves tables. I'll give your suggestion a go when I have a bit more time the example will be a big help. Thank you! --Aspectacle 19:48, 14 March 2007 (EDT)
Worked a treat. Thanks Anja. Aspectacle 05:24, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Project for you?[edit]

You seem to know what you're doing with all the parser stuff. I want to make the 3 weapon templates into one (offhand, bow, weapon). Would you know how to do it so that if you set type = offhand, the template shows like the offhand template, or if type = bow, it shows like the bow one etc? - BeXoR 05:57, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Also check out User:BeXoR/Infoboxes to see all the current ones and their colours. I'm thinking about changing some of the colours if you want to help. :) - BeXoR 06:09, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
O.O - I'm rather far from a parser functions expert, today is my first ever attempt! I can't figure out why the type box takes two lines in the mission info box. >.< I can take a look at the weapons stuff and have a go. It looks similar to what I did for the optional mission parameters. I can't help but feel a little inadequate. :) That page looks good by the way, I like these boxes. --Aspectacle 06:15, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
I'm pretty sure it's because you put the if info on the next line. It counts linebreaks. I haven't ever attempted parser functions and I'm going to try to learn today too. :) - BeXoR 06:19, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Maybe it's all the pipes? I mean the | not the template ones? - BeXoR 06:28, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Bleh. well that used up all of my good will - but its fixed. --Aspectacle 06:52, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
Hooray! :P - BeXoR 06:57, 15 March 2007 (EDT)
You're telling me! - I'm doing the weapon infobox now. --Aspectacle 06:58, 15 March 2007 (EDT)

Progression Template[edit]

Very nice, except with the green. =P — Rapta (talk|contribs) 22:32, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

I can't make the progression row stop at 16 changing the "maximum" value. Any idea of what I'm doing wrong? --VeNoM 03:53, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
That's because I made 18 the default maximum because in pve areas all skills can get to 18 through equipment or shrines. You don't need to specifiy a maximum if the default is all that is required. --Aspectacle 04:06, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Ok, thanks a lot! --VeNoM 14:34, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Poghan Passage Mission Map[edit]

Hi. Once upon a time I made a mission map for Poghan Passage and uploaded it to guildwiki. When the official wiki came out I uploaded that same map here to the official wiki. I did this myself so everybody can see there's no problem with "don't just copy content due to license issues" stuff (same guy who uploaded the image, you know). When I checked the offical wiki today I've seen that "my" map is gone and "your" map is in place now. In addition there is no history for the file (can this happen? no history for a change/deletion?). Beside that "huh, how could this have happened?" thought in my mind I'd like to tell you that -personally- I do prefer "my" map over "your" map because it's more detailed and annotated. Nevertheless I just don't want to overwrite "your" map with "my" map because that's bad behaviour. Long story short: a) why did my map get "lost" here and b) would you mind if I replace "your" map with "my" map again? T.T.H. 03:57, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Hi - please see my reply to your question on User:Rezyk's page. The answer is the same. While I kinda like my map, because yours has a lot of information best given in the article you are welcome to reupload the image if you add {{GFDL}} to your guild wiki user page. --Aspectacle 04:09, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Why should T.T.H. have to put all of his GuildWiki contributions into the GDFL to upload one image here? Sure, he could be impersonating the real T.T.H., but we took the GuildWiki T.T.H.'s word for it when he made the original upload. I see the need for the {{GFDL}} notice when another person is porting contributions, but when one person has a claim to be T.T.H. that is no less convincing than the original T.T.H., shouldn't he be able to release only specific content that he chooses under both licences? (If wer're being cautions, isn't his GuildWiki "I am the same T.T.H. on the official wiki" enough?) -- Dashface User Dashface.png 22:29, 18 April 2007 (EDT)
Sure, TTH could have done that, but they came across as having no objection to releasing their entire wiki works in the formal manner and I clearly did not think to suggest any other method. I did what I thought what was appropriate at the time given the current policies and previous similar decisions for copyright content from wiki. Please also note that the comment in guildwiki was put in *after* the discussion here took place, at the same time as the GFDL tag was applied. If you think that this policy for taking content from guild wiki is too restrictive perhaps it is something which should be taken up on the GWW copyright talk pages? --Aspectacle 23:54, 18 April 2007 (EDT)
I'm not really taking issue; it was mostly me just doing a commonsense doubletake. It seems that sanity prevails, and for that I am glad. -- Dashface User Dashface.png 01:53, 19 April 2007 (EDT)

Description heading[edit]

Why are you removing the description heading in the skill articles? Just curious, because I like the heading, but I haven't seen any discussion on having it or not having it in the formatting page. :) - Anja Astor 02:45, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

Three reasons 1) why is it there in the first place 2) Most articles have an introductory text associated with them in this wiki and the best thing for skill articles is the skill description 3) they're inconsistent anyway (seen in use variously; in-game description, detail, description, skill detail with different cases) so I'm applying my own brand of consistency. Finally, and fourthly I suppose, I like the look without it. :) --Aspectacle 02:49, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
I find the description hard to separate from the stub tag now, since the progression box is like "pushing it up".. But maybe I'm just used to the description heading :P - Anja Astor 02:56, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
In truth I've looked at so many of these pages now I'm a poor judge. :) I agree that the stub tag causes a blend, but when the stub stag is removed (perhaps I should be removing a few?) it is the opening line on the page which is much nicer. --Aspectacle 03:01, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
I tried removing the stub, and it does look nice. Maybe we could also have another blank line above the progression box, to not make it "push" the text upwards? - Anja Astor 03:07, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
An article shouldn't start with a heading. - BeXoR 03:25, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
There are special cases where it might be good, but I realised this was not one of them. - Anja Astor 03:28, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
I'll add the extra line in after stubs as I head through to make the first content stand out. --Aspectacle 03:38, 30 March 2007 (EDT)
Technically, the way media wiki stuff is set up, the page name is the heading (it's a level 1 heading). Introductory text doesn't need a heading because the title is already there on the page. Sometimes an article doesn't have any introductory text, which is fine to start with a heading, but if this first paragraph is an introduction or general information, it doesn't need to have a heading. - BeXoR 10:18, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

Related Skills[edit]

Stop putting descriptions beside all of the related skill in skill pages. If people really want to know what they do then they can click on them therselves and check. Also, new sentences start with capitals, not lower case letters. You have been starting your "descriptions" with lower case letters.--Eloc 21:01, 3 April 2007 (EDT)

all? You exaggerate. The skill name has an upper case letter, the first letter of the decription I was adding is not the first word in the sentence. I find that information interesting at the point the relationship is mentioned and thought perhaps others would too. I guess not. --Aspectacle 21:17, 3 April 2007 (EDT)
Well alot of the skills that you have edited I have seen you do that. and the skill icon does not count as a capital letter.--Eloc 21:18, 3 April 2007 (EDT)
I have edited literally hundreds of skills. You have so far modified two examples out of perhaps ten I can think of where I have added such a note, that includes indicating duplicate skills. Fear not, I will stop adding such notes but know I really don't appreciate the exaggeration. --Aspectacle 21:38, 3 April 2007 (EDT)
I found those little extra notes rather helpful, and I appreciate all the work you've done Aspectacle, well done indeed :) -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 21:22, 4 April 2007 (EDT)
Thanks. :) I might raise the idea of allowing notes beside the related skills (other than noting elites or duplicate) to the skill formatting discussion. Sometimes I'd like to know what people are thinking when they list some skills as related... --Aspectacle 22:03, 4 April 2007 (EDT)
Well if you really want it to be allowed like that then why not propose it as a policy?--Eloc 22:22, 4 April 2007 (EDT)

Vault Box[edit]

I don't think you have enough money in there... :p --Lemming64 17:01, 7 April 2007 (EDT)

How did you get so much money!! I demand answers lol -- Scourge User Scourge Spade.gif 20:06, 7 April 2007 (EDT)
It is a function of playing the game for too long and how I play it. I'll *never* buy anything I think I can get for myself somehow. The most expensive thing I've bought was a Mini Charr Sharman which fate deigned not to give me as a present. I know others who have much, much more with stacks upon stacks of ecto to boot. --Aspectacle 18:26, 8 April 2007 (EDT)

Thx for the picture info. im new to wikis so i'm trying to get by. Haley Mccallen 13:34, 13 April 2007 (EDT)

Sandbox[edit]

I took a look at your sandbox mock up of the main page, with the icons. I like! Would be even sweeter with the 'heading' boxes the same size, but dunno if that's possible. Anyway, just to let you know I think it looks real good :) User Fox.jpg Fox (talk|contribs) 07:08, 14 April 2007 (EDT)

Your image of User_Aspectacle_gw-shield.png[edit]

Would you mind if I used this image as an avatar somewhere other than this wiki? --SK Warrior-faded-large.png 20:03, 14 April 2007 (EDT)

You're welcome to. It is just a cleaned up version of images used on the GuildWars.com site. I will be uploading another version in a few days where the drop shadow I added doesn't get cut off. --Aspectacle 19:07, 15 April 2007 (EDT)

Thanks[edit]

I added those headers to fix an error I was getting with the progression tables, whatever you did fixed it. - Shield-Logo-Mini.gif Drago 20:11, 14 April 2007 (EDT)

Quicklinks[edit]

To be honest, I was a bit in doubt when I added the quicklinks on the Main Page/editcopy. The main reason for my doubt was that it somewhat disrupts the calm feel of the header. I added the quicklinks anyways, because the page also functions as a entry point for a lot of information you generally want to find as quick as possible. In my opinion the easy of use outweighed the need for white space. What's your thinking on this? —MarkL User MarkL Heart.png (talk - contribs) 17:33, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

I like the clean look - and the quick links push it over into cluttered - either drop the upcoming stuff or the quick links IMO. Against the quick links, I'm not sure that the things which were quicklinked were things which deserve such prominance on the site - I'm thinking the maps and storyline in particular, possibly even the quests.
If we're going to quicklink something, why not something general like elite skill capture/bosses, or skills, profession guides, unique items, or even something PvP focused. I'm trying to think of stuff that people might like to visit quickly more than once. :) I think that something like the quick links link in the side bar at guildwiki is nice, and perhaps preferable to a subset of possible interesting quick links which we could fit in a small space on the mainpage. --Aspectacle 18:51, 16 April 2007 (EDT)
You just gave me another reason for not adding the quicklinks (If we're going to quicklink something, why not something general like elite skill capture/bosses, or skills, profession guides, unique items, or even something PvP focused.) There's just too much stuff that could be Main Page worthy. I actually felt kinda bad about the edit, but couldn't find enough reasoning against it. Thanks :-) —MarkL User MarkL Heart.png (talk - contribs) 19:15, 16 April 2007 (EDT)

Just found the first 26 fansite friday articles here Fall 00:00, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Hey thanks Fall. :D That stratics link will be easier to work with than the Monde Persistants one because it has french translations. I've updated the talk page with what I know about the state of the different interviews. This is going to take a while... --Aspectacle 00:19, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Just a note, please don't delete content from talk pages - archive it instead. For the time being, I've partially reverted your deletion of certain sections on Talk:Fansite_friday. Thanks. Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 00:35, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Why shouldn't wiki stuff get added?[edit]

why shouldnt i add wiki articles it was all correct info Shinjinbukai User Shinjinbukai.jpg 22:28, 19 November 2007 (UTC)

Add information all you want, but do not copy directly from GuildWiki, there are licensing/copyright problems with that. Also, it's a good idea to fill out the article that already exists, instead of replacing it. :) - anja talk 22:35, 19 November 2007 (UTC)
You can use Guildwiki articles for information confirmation however. — Eloc 00:38, 20 November 2007 (UTC)

Droknar's weapons[edit]

What exactly needs to be cleaned up on the article? — Eloc 06:21, 4 January 2008 (UTC)

You did read it didn't you, Eloc? The style is pretty incomprehensible, it includes more detail than necessary, it makes a personal judgment on the length of the campaign. It has a PS at the end. Perhaps all it needs is to be a definition and then link out to or list the Droknar weapons. I don't like to see things deleted when, even if it is a mess, some value is added to the wiki. --Aspectacle 05:59, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
Ok, I was referring to the cleanup tag. It should be marked with {{Cleanup|GWW:GENFORM}} then I suppose? — Eloc 10:59, 5 January 2008 (UTC)

Disambiguation pages[edit]

I did not notice the disambiguations on the mission pages at first. I agree they should be removed (only for missions which say they have an explorable area, but really don't). Be careful, some mission areas have explorable areas with different names (for example, Dzagonur Bastion's explorable is Wilderness of Bahdza)

Gah...[edit]
