Copyrighted Content[edit]

Do we have permission to copy material from the Guild Wars website? Seems like a license violation. —Tanaric 19:11, 7 February 2007 (PST)

To be honest, no idea. I only copied the profession pages because the Images and content in the Hero page were taken from the website as well, so I assumed it was permitted. Rapta 20:41, 7 February 2007 (PST)
I'd imagine it is permitted, since this technically is part of the Guild Wars website (subdomain at least, also official, but not sure on hosting). I think the old policy on GuildWiki of copying from the main site was rediculous anyway. --Santax 08:37, 8 February 2007 (PST)
GuildWiki could use the stuff s the GWiki license didn't allow use for commercial things. The GWWiki however uses the GFDL which allows use in commercial things, but the guildwars.com website says that the material may not be used for commercial things. Go figure... --Gem (talk) 10:57, 8 February 2007 (PST)
But wouldn't it count as "internal use"? Does the Guild Wars Official Wiki count as part of the Guild Wars website or does it count as independant of it? --Santax 11:34, 8 February 2007 (PST)
That's not really relevant. The real issue is that, were they to allow us to put the information here, they'd have to relicense the content in a way that would allow other sites to use it commercially if they chose. —Tanaric 12:40, 8 February 2007 (PST)

Fyren Templates[edit]

From Fyren's user page, I release all contributions I have made into public domain except those made to talk namespaces and the template namespace.

Those templates you are porting are a violation of user copyright. I'm afraid they will have to go until Fyren changes his mind. — Gares 19:50, 8 February 2007 (PST)

Also, it's worth noting that "major contributors" doesn't cut it. It has to be every contributor that doesn't do something like a spelling fix. And then, on template:userbox, none of the GuildWiki contributors have released their work under the GFDL. I think you need to take this more seriously. I copied over WP's version rather than adding the copyvio template. --Fyren 23:13, 8 February 2007 (PST)
I think Fyren is trying to do us a favour here, by making sure we start from scratch with the templates in the hope that we will produce something a bit cleaner. Maybe not, but anyway, moving content over from the GuildWiki is a serious matter. I'll just leave it at that, Gares and Fyren have said it all really :P LordBiro 03:38, 9 February 2007 (PST)
Ah, I thought it was only the most recent revision that was required to be written by someone who released their work. My mistake. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 11:50, 9 February 2007 (PST)
If you interpret "Major contributors" as "people who contributed with edits not marked as minor," that should be sufficient, no? By definition, you're only supposed to mark your edit as minor if it consists only of spelling/grammar fixes -- that is, edits marked minor are by definition uncopyrightable. —Tanaric 17:41, 9 February 2007 (PST)
No, that's wishful thinking. You have to look at what they actually did. If someone wrote a novel and said "oh, here's a little something I wrote, it's insignificant really" it doesn't make it uncopyrightable. --Fyren 21:07, 9 February 2007 (PST)
I would agree with Fyren really. LordBiro 04:09, 10 February 2007 (PST)

Welcome template[edit]

I've put up a version at [[Template:Welcome]] with a slight color change, and also used the subst so it automatically addresses itself to the user whose talk page it is put on. Take a look, see what you think Fox 21:05, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

It's very nice. The first two words cracked me up. "Hello, Welcome"... =P — Rapta (talk|contribs) 21:07, 28 March 2007 (EDT)

User Page[edit]

It seems your current userpage is slighty longer than the allowed length under GWW:USER. Take a look, and sorry for the trouble. - Drago 12:35, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

No problem, I wasn't aware of the length restriction. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 12:38, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Copyvio[edit]

Could u pls stop copying from guildwiki, and go over your edits and place {{copyvio|<LINK>}} on them. were not your babbysitter, read the policy's ~ KurdKurdsig.png15:27, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Actually, these are my own contributions, which have been released under the GFDL. If you had taken the time to check the history of those pages on the GWiki, you would not be here right now making these insulting remarks. =) — Rapta (talk|contribs) 15:29, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
fill in the summary, Copied from Guildwiki and made a few edits. All edits made on the page are done by users who release their Edits under the GFDL. , now i have to go remove them again :( ~ KurdKurdsig.png15:32, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Oh? I always thought that it was the instigator's job to actually go over to the GWiki and check the history of the article before placing the copyvio template all over the place. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 15:34, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
No its not, its your job, you can save us tons of works in you could just fill in the summary ~ KurdKurdsig.png15:36, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
In all truth, no one posts a summary to every edit they make. One should simply check the contributions before assuming a copyright infringement. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 15:37, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Kurd, here's my advice to you: If you don't want to do something, then simply don't; someone else who wants to do it will. Telling someone "do this and don't that" in that tone is pretty rude and not wiki-like. And Rapta is right, whoever places the copyvio tag also needs to fill in the URL from where that article was stolen, after making sure that the copyvio has indeed happened. Accept you were wrong and move on, bud. --Dirigible 15:40, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
OK OK! youre all right im wrong, jeez ~ KurdKurdsig.png15:43, 29 March 2007 (EDT)
Edit conflict -- I was basically saying the same thing as Dirigible, and the "babysitting" comment was perhaps uncalled for -- but also adding that perhaps we all learn a little from this and out of courtesy to each other try to remember to indicate in the edit summary that the material is GFDL etc. Fox 15:48, 29 March 2007 (EDT)

Check out the discussion regarding the category tree for unique items Guild_Wars_Wiki_talk:Projects/Unique_Items. Let me know what you think and I'll start dialing through the category tree to get it straightened out. Rohar 08:17, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

I was actually planning to do that was well. Looks fantastic. =) — Rapta (talk|contribs) 16:12, 30 March 2007 (EDT)

Uploading images for others[edit]

Although it is a quick remedy for a problem, sometimes it is easier to guide the user through the steps to correct his own mistakes and learn in the process of doing so. I don't know whether you should or shouldn't do this, it's your choice, but I wouldn't have done it myself. -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 03:40, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

I see where you're coming from, but I'm leaving a message on their talk pages about what was done as well. I just see it as clearing up the problem much faster while also notifying the user of what action should be taken. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 03:43, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
Alright, as long as you notify them as to what you've done, I think that would be the best course of action. And again, it's up to you. :) -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 03:45, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

Guild Infobox[edit]

hey i need help to make the box thingy on the Guild:Example Guild page w/ the cape and territory and all that...anybody know the code? MercyFalls 12:03, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

I know a good site it can help you to make Functions
http://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/ParserFunctions#Functions --Nizu 16:17, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
and if u mean the Guild infobox the variables are
{{Guild infobox
| capeimage =
| tag =
| territory =
| language =
| faction =
| type =
| members =
| hall =
| voip =
| irc =
| web =
| forum =
| time =
}}

Template:Guild_infobox
I hope it Helps

Guild_TPPP_Officers.jpg[edit]

Excuse me, but why did you tag this picture to be deleted? It has the guild prefix...when I talked with FireFox, he said the tag would be enough... (Guild_The_Petulant_Purple_Pixies_Officers.jpg is a bit long name, don't you agree?) --Torins 21:43, 31 May 2007 (UTC)

Really? Our policy is that the full name of the guild be typed out. Image name length isn't a really big problem, as far as I see it. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 21:45, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
I've seen lots of pictures that didn't even have the guild prefix or {{guild}} in their summaries, yet aren't tagged O.o;; Oh well, I've heard they forgotten someone on the picture so I'll probably have to upload it again anyway... The next time I do it, it'll be under the full name --Torins 21:50, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
Yeah, we are trying our best to tag pictures without the proper names with the delete tag. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 00:35, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Naming a guild image[edit]

Hi there. I was just wondering if you could update me on the correct wording to use for the naming of a guild image (in my case the image of our guild cape), seeing as you tagged my naming as inappropriate. Thanks in advance :)

Re: Hmm...[edit]

Given that Guild:Dark_Of_Heart doesn't list Guild:Thieves_Of_The_Abyss as a member of their alliance (as of a couple of edits ago, with the edit removing TOA being from the long-time maintainer of the DoH page), and one of the edits by the latest user was to not list TOA as a member of the DoH alliance anymore, I'm inclined to assume that it's an edit in good faith - the odd-looking quip seems to be more of just a guild motto than anything directed towards GWW rules. (But that's just my reading of it - and the user is anon with only the 3 edits on that page.) Go to Aiiane's Talk page (Aiiane - talk - contribs) 02:39, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Alright, then. Thanks for responding. — Rapta (talk|contribs) 21:33, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

GuildWatch and my image[edit]

Hi, just wondering if it was a bot that tagged my image for me. It was, erm, very quick - I was tagging it myself and got an edit conflict. Would be a nice touch if people didn't have to tag their own images, I guess... - Thulsey User Thulsey good.gif - talk 04:31, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

XP No, I'm pretty sure that wasn't a bot - we just have some people with blazing fast mouse clicking =\ (BTW, all the current editing bots can be found at Guild Wars Wiki:Projects/Editing bots) MisterPepe talk 05:27, 1 June 2007 (UTC)

Hi, you have been temporarily removed from Guild Wars Wiki:Helpers due to an apparent inactivity on your part. Feel free to re-add your own user name if you plan on becoming active on the wiki again.
