Sandbox[edit]
You don't need to use a Private Sandbox to have your own. You can use User:Luke1138/Private Sandbox as your own sandbox, without creating one in the mainspace. --People of Antioch 02:53, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Thanks for the tip! --Luke1138 03:10, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
I moved the face gallery sandbox to your user space :) User:Luke1138/Face Gallery Testing Sandbox - anja 17:02, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Thank you! Sorry for all the confusion. --Luke1138 23:20, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
Images[edit]
Hey, I noticed your talk page comment for Image:Factions Warrior Female Face.jpg -- you will need to reupload that image with the correct user image naming. For example, "User Luke1138 Factions Warrior Female Face.jpg". Thanks. -- Brains12 \ Talk 18:45, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
Yep, will do so. Thanks. --Luke1138 21:36, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- Also just as wee suggestion, it might be an idea to take the face pictures while you have an "up-do" selected on the hair so that half the face isnt hidden by the hairstyle. Just a suggestion though. -- Salome 16:44, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the suggestion. I've actually just done that on my most recent prototype. I've also selected a hair color and skin color that has better contrast from the background. Go back to the page and scroll down to Factions Mesmer or Factions Warrior and click on the Female link and let me know what you think. --Luke1138 16:47, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
- Your female warrior gallery still has a hair style which obstructs half the face. Personally I think for the face and skin colour you should select a shorter or less obstructive hair style. (like the short spikey hairstyle) -- Salome 17:10, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks, I agree. This was mainly for layout purposes. The Mesmer page is more like the default style I'd pick. Short hair away from the face, hair color that contrasts with the background, and skin color that allows you to see the facial details. Other than the pictures themselves, what do you think about the layout and structure? --Luke1138 05:39, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- I like it, although i would change the relevant background colours to the proffession being shown rather than have them all yellow. E.g For mesmer:-

- I also think that the overview picture, to look more professional should be in the default armour dye colour. E.g. yellow for warrior, purple for ele, green for mes, yellow for ranger, red for necro etc..... -- Salome 08:57, 16 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh, interesting. I didn't know there were default armor colors. Where can I find out what they are for each profession? When I took the screenshots, I just left them as whatever color came up. --Luke1138 01:08, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
- Oh the armour pages on this wiki will show you the default colours (all except the EoTN ones which are all set to red) anyhoo I think its Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Paragon = Yellow; Necro = Red; Mesmer = Green; Elementalist = Purple; Assassin = Blue. Ritulaist I think is yellow but could be orange and as for dervish its either blue or cyan, I think it's blue though. -- Salome 01:48, 18 May 2008 (UTC)

- How goes the gallery? Doesn't seem to have any opposition, so feel free to move galleries like User:Luke1138/Sandbox to Gallery of female warrior appearance. But just the first section will do, repeated for each of the campaigns. Don't include the screenshot of the whole character creation screen. If you're not sure how to move, let me know and I'll help you in setting up the pages and names. -- ab.er.rant 01:38, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for asking. The latest prototype is here: Face Gallery Demo 1. It's intended to be the "table of contents". You can then click on the appropriate "female" or "male" link and get the detailed images. Right now only Factions Memser Female and Factions Warrior Female are live links. I've finally taken all the screen shots and am formatting them. I'll then upload the jpg files and finish up any loose ends. I'll get everything in place in my sandbox and then I'll need your help to move it to the main page. I'll let you know when everything is ready. Takes a long time to arrange the images so I probably won't be ready for another week or so. Thanks for your offer to help! Luke1138 03:44, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- Looks good Luke. Even though you are still working on these and probably are already aware of what I'm going to say, I do have one suggestion for that table of contents page. Once you have all professions and pages done you should list them in the normal order: Warrior, Ranger, Monk, Necromancer, Mesmer, Elementalist, Assassin, Ritualist, Paragon, Dervish and then use the corresponding colour for the background. Looking forward to seeing the final pages :) --Kakarot 03:56, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
- I know that's your latest preference but I still see two downsides with it that would make it less useful (I've mentioned one of it previously).
- I can't compare the faces and hairstyle of one profession across all three campaigns on one page. I'd have to tab between at least three screenshots. If I'm creating a character, it makes more sense to group by profession first, then by campaign. I don't really care about ele faces when I want to create a necro example.
- The rest of the character creation screen is really just clutter, since the focus is meant to be on the options instead. With the whole screen there. it's taking away the focus. I'd support the character screen if we can actually do some sort of javascript to let us mix'n'match, but otherwise, it's just static.
Ok, new version of the gallery here: Face Gallery Demo 2. I'm not so sure there's a whole lot of benefit of having all images of one type on the same page (i.e. show all the female warrior images grouped by campaign). It looks a bit messy to me. But I'll leave it up to each of you to provide input now that you have a couple of different formats to compare. Female warrior and female mesmer are the only live links. Luke1138 00:08, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
- Excellent! I love it! Ok, let me edit the rest of the screen shots and build some new pages using your layout. That would be 20 new pages. 10 professions, 1 set of male images, 1 set of female images. Luke1138 07:46, 29 May 2008 (UTC)
- The screenshots are taking forever. There's no feasible way to do this without spending a ridiculous amount of time. Instead, here's a new format. This way may not look as good but it is something more realistic. Let me know if this is unacceptable. The new prototype is here: Face Gallery Demo 4 Luke1138 06:13, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Whoa there, take it easy, don't push yourself to finish it all by yourself and all at once :) (but yeah, I know, sometimes you just feel like wanting to finish it all :D )

- The beauty about the wiki is that you can just do things partially and other people will pick up where you left off or improve on it. Which is why I mentioned that you can just move what you've completed out your sandboxes and into the main space. It's perfectly fine to have missing gallery pages or ones that are empty - someone will come by, notice it, and maybe upload the missing pictures :) As for your new prototype, that's fine too. Pick whichever you're comfortable with and move them into page names like Gallery of female warrior appearance and Gallery of female elementalist appearance (note the lowercase, that's our convention). -- ab.er.rant 08:17, 17 June 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the encouragement. I've got all the female shots ready and am uploading them now. I'll work on the male ones next and then work on refining the actual pics. Luke1138 16:30, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Galleries[edit]
just a wee heads up but you will get better quality pics with better resolution, if you press F11 and on the interface option choose "Larger", this will make the wee pics much bigger. -- Salome 16:13, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
- thanks, I tried that and got slightly better resolution but it didn't all fit on my small screen :-) for the purposes of the gallery, I think it's ok. once I get all the graphics up and loaded, I'll work on cleaning them up. I just wanted to get at least a 1st version up and running. Luke1138 16:30, 19 June 2008 (UTC)
Nice job with these, they're a great addition. :) --Xylia 12:25, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
Hey, it's great to see that you're interested in getting character creation options up, but could you slow it down until we decide on how big/bright/detailed we want all the pictures? Just my thoughts.... --JonTheMon 17:19, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- that's fine. I just wanted to get a complete female gallery in place. who is going to decide the appropriate resolution for the screenshots? Luke1138 17:30, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- I'd mention something on the community portal. Oh, and if you could have a page with all the images/links on it, that'd help a lot also (unless you already have one). --JonTheMon 17:32, 20 June 2008 (UTC)
- There's no reason why he should not do things as fast as he wants to just because there's a discussion on how big/bright/detailed those pics should be. Valid content should not be stopped for trivial formatting/presentation concerns. Contribute/Add/Upload first, then discuss on what's best. -- ab.er.rant 05:25, 23 June 2008 (UTC)

Warrior hairstyle images[edit]
Heya Luke! I like the galleries, I only have one problem... all the warrior hairstyle images are tilted. It may seem a minor thing, but it really throws off the look of the entire gallery since they are right on the top. Any chance they can be fixed? -- Wynthyst 22:41, 1 July 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, it's a bit of an optical illusion since each square has a slightly angled bottom frame. That's straight from the screenshot. I'll pulled apart each row and manually edited it and reposted the Female Warrior. Let me know what you think. I may modify others like that over time but it is time consuming. If anyone else would like to upload new versions, they're more than welcome. Thanks for the feedback. Luke1138 15:20, 2 July 2008 (UTC)
Image Caching[edit]
The image cache has been really wierd lately. If you are having refresh issues, I suggest you wait a minimum of an hour before uploading again. It has been doing some strange stuff, like reverting images to old versions when you try to force a cache purge (?action=purge) -- Wyn 06:33, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Clicking the clock next to your user name should also work. --People of Antioch 06:36, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tip about the clock. Actually I had been waiting a day or more to see if the server would refresh itself. Sometimes waiting works, sometimes not. Thanks for the suggestion! Luke1138 15:32, 1 September 2008 (UTC)
