User talk:Oiseau
Hi![edit]
You have a talkpage now! :D is for Raine, etc. 07:30, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
- I'm glad! Hello to you, Ms. Valen. :) -- Oiseau | 16:36, 5 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks[edit]
No idea wtf I did there. >.> --71.193.48.146 23:44, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
- You're fine! :) I assumed good faith and gave it a few go-rounds, but it continually would redirect to itself. -- Oiseau | 23:45, 6 May 2010 (UTC)
You're looking for an unranked-GvG high-end-GvG guild?[edit]
I'm pretty sure I misread that, but I have no idea how. is for Raine, etc. 17:34, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- I think she's looking for a high-end-HA guild that isn't GvG ranked. Tidas 19:07, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
- Yes, thank you. Tidas is correct - and sleep-deprivation is unkind to me. :< -- Oiseau | 03:54, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- I don't think there are any serious tombs guilds left in guildwars. Winning halls is a cakewalk now. :\
- If you want, I can get you into [MOJO], but idk about their activity levels. is for Raine, etc. 04:07, 27 June 2010 (UTC)
- My attentions are somewhat split at present; mayhaps a less active guild would suit my current activity level. I wish I could devote more time to this, but real issues have pressed of late. Thank you again, Ms. Valen. -- Oiseau | 04:47, 28 June 2010 (UTC)
- Also, I think I'd like to wait until a meta shift. :/ -- Oiseau | 05:15, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- This one's relatively good, imo. The only real competitive gimmicks around are hexway, iway, rspike, and bbsway. Still nowhere near perfect, but one of the best metas I've seen in a while. is for Raine, etc. 06:25, 6 July 2010 (UTC)
- Mesmers' increased power (still) makes me a little bit wary. Dual E-Surge on anyone with Mind Wrack seems to be going around. -- Oiseau | 02:43, 7 July 2010 (UTC)

"Increasingly-Apparent Inefficaciousness"[edit]
Sounds like someone needs a pet project! — Raine Valen 6:03, 10 Sep 2010 (UTC)
- I do believe you're the only person on this wiki actively generating such projects, dear. Anyways, I'm finally back on my own personal writing - my thesis needn't take more of my time. -- Oiseau | 15:11, 10 September 2010 (UTC)
- Not just projects, but projects! The wiki generates the latter on its own. — Raine Valen 15:29, 10 Sep 2010 (UTC)
- I've found the lore, especially in dealing with the multifarious fringe realms in GW terribly fascinating, so beyond janitorial work, I'd considered playing a part. As the name might imply, this is a project - and I do so enjoy finally having the baseline on paper for my novel. :> -- Oiseau | 15:36, 10 September 2010 (UTC)

Passage Scrolls[edit]
How's the party rearranged in their absence? — Raine Valen 3:55, 12 Sep 2010 (UTC)
- If you enter by way of the Champion of Balthazar or the Voice of Grenth, you're party is rearranged on entry. It's why SC teams demand a scroll be used. -- Oiseau | 03:58, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- I mean, are they arranged in any specific order, or merely scrambled? — Raine Valen 3:59, 12 Sep 2010 (UTC)

- This requires experimentation! — Raine Valen 4:04, 12 Sep 2010 (UTC)
- I might pick this up, if people feel like they have platinum to burn on said iterations. -- Oiseau | 04:09, 12 September 2010 (UTC)
- Last night, our party went from 12345678 to 12348765. It could depend on the order people were invited to the party: 5 invited 6, 7, and 8; 3 invited 4; 1 invited 2, then 3-4, then 5-8 (who were rearranged). — Raine Valen 18:21, 7 Nov 2010 (UTC)
- Interesting! :o Hopefully, if you're doing more runs we can produce more iterations in this format. -- Oiseau | 19:04, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

UW, tonight[edit]
Hi. Would you be able to run heal monk for us? Riddle can't make it and you said you could monk :> --neshot. 18:45, 6 November 2010.
- Ah, I'm sorry, I was recovering from being out of town last night, so I went to sleep uncharacteristically early. I hope to catch you all again. -- Oiseau | 14:50, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- No problem :> We failed on 4 horsemen anyway. I hope you can come next time.--neshot. 15:37, 7 November 2010.

- What was the team build? I've carried PUGs through 4H with just a 2 tank HB/Seed strat. :< -- Oiseau | 19:06, 7 November 2010 (UTC)
- HB, ES, WS, Imba, Panic, DwG, LS, WoH. — Raine Valen 1:59, 8 Nov 2010 (UTC)

- Lack of dedicated tank made four horsemen a bitch. Held up fine outside of that. — Raine Valen 2:08, 8 Nov 2010 (UTC)
- I'd imagine that would be the case. I've never seen a team adequately take all 4 of those groups at once and survive. -- Oiseau | 02:51, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

- In other news: I got interrupted on Patient several times. Fortunately, we had two copies of Hexbreaker Aria (amazing skill!), which is probably what kept us alive. That and the fact that ALL OF THE MINDBLADES WOULD CAST MIGRAINE AND CLUMSINESS ON ME. I shit you not, no one else got a hex on them unless I already had it. Ever. Not once from the mindblades. - Yes, I remember playing SoS and HB, and getting Ignorance and Migraine maintained on me respectively. Thank goodness for HB mimic UA, on a 40/40 set under candy, because I swear that was the only thing that kept that team afloat. -- Oiseau | 03:41, 8 November 2010 (UTC)

- I had seen LaLush's post on micro, actually, though I'm going to have to gain a much better understanding of BW to fully understand the movement of play styles (as is talked about often) between BW and SC2. As for the second link, thank you!! Those graphs are wonderful and capitulate the sometimes-wavering understanding of the imbalance MULES provide. I owe you.
- I would appreciate any aid which you could render, but I'd come to understand from the Sc2 community that Masq was on hiatus from SC2. I have scheduled a time to interview FXOSheth - which hopefully, will open up a causeway for Optikzero, Moonglade, Moonan, etc. I'm also hoping to contact EG and Liquid; those are my lofty goals of the moment. -- Oiseau | 03:26, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Masq is online a fair amount, and his girlfriend told me he would be at MLG Dallas, but I'm not sure if he showed or not. Failing that I can get ahold of a few top 800-200 NA players like TenthSt, LagTTJEcho, or Treestomper, but that's about as high as my friends list goes. I'm not sure how you feel, but the difference between high diamond/masters and progamers (or even top 200 and progamers) is staggering. As a result of that I'm not sure how much help I can be, it might as well be a completely different game at the pro level. -- Tha Reckoning 04:15, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Like I've said, I'll take any help you'd be generous enough to provide. If you'd like to refer him to me, I can provide contact information for your use in this. Even players in the mid-rank range can be of help, though admittedly less given my project respects the cutting edge of meta over all things. Thanks for your enthusiasm in providing all this, Reckoning. :) -- Oiseau | 04:22, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Sure, just throw me your MSN and I'll try and set it up tomorrow, all of the players I listed are active enough. -- Tha Reckoning 04:24, 6 April 2011 (UTC)

Signature size[edit]
- "Markup tags or styles that increase your text size, repositions the text, or otherwise changes the flow of the text, ...are not allowed." — GWW:SIGN#Appearance
Your signature size is somewhat distracting: could you remove the <font size = 3> piece? Thanks (and sorry for the inconvenience). — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:44, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- Sure. For some reason, whether it be my Mac or Firefox, the signature does not have the same effects when I viewed it. I wasn't aware of the policy, so thanks for pointing it out to me. :) -- Oiseau | 19:46, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- Weird. I'm using Firefox, so maybe it something to do with which fonts the two of us have installed. I'll pop back to see what it looks like afterward, to make sure I'm not seeing a too-small sig (atm, it looks 15-20% bigger than everyone else's). And thanks for updating it. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:48, 20 March 2011 (UTC)
- Testing.
- I'd pulled up GWW on a PC the other day and saw that my sig was somewhat obnoxious, so there's no reason not to change it in either case. -- Oiseau | 19:50, 20 March 2011 (UTC)

Rspike[edit]
died for a couple of reasons.
First, there's Invoke. Invoke is easier to play and accomplishes the same result, so the shitters that would be playing Rspike play Invoke, instead. I mean, why go through the trouble of picking key targets and maintaining spirits and weapons and chants and COUNTERLINING and all that in order to 4321pz people out... when you can just 321pz anywhere between 1 and 3 people on the other team with none of the trouble?
Then there's the lack of non-shitters that would play rspike. Those decent players that ran it (Jimmy and Pierce!) don't GW anymore. It takes a better-than-average caller to win KOTH or cap points (or even relics, to some extent) with rspike; there aren't any. The people who could be are busy playing dervishes or balanced (there's a wierdass polarization effect).
Then there's the fact that rspike doesn't have enough defense to deal with broken pressure. Ele spikes can run weapons on 2 characters, extra party heals, blinds, etc. Rangers rely on killing key targets to cripple the other team's offense — that doesn't work when killing one grenth means the other two still roll you.
It's just an ugly meta, man. I'd say it's time for a new smiteway or other anti-meta. — Raine Valen 21:42, 28 Mar 2011 (UTC)
- I liked smiteway when it was affixed to a Balanced team, though I hesitate to say I'd like to see it back, given it will likely include running the same, Dervish frontliners on a team with wicked anti-condition and hex cleaners.
- As to people playing Balanced, I've seen rather few instances of it - and it typically doesn't stand to a quad-Derv team (or two, if we're talking about HA). It certainly seems to be a persistent weed of a meta - and not one that people seem willing to build wars much. Generally, attempts to do so have not faired well. -- Oiseau | 22:22, 28 March 2011 (UTC)
What to run?[edit]
I really have no idea. I loved the last build, but the mysticism change cripples the (broken) backline. Tim's critscythes are out, too.
I guess caster spike is an option (lolmesmers), but I'd much rather do something less "spam 1 win UW".
Things I'd like to incorporate (maybe) include:
- A rit MM — abuses the AI and explodes everything ever.
- Dervishes — Pious Renewal is stupid damage. I'm so down for that. Woundig Strike is also delicious for great blindspam.
- A Mesmer — Shatter Hex got buffed. I really want to play it.
- Warriors — Earth Shaker stays classy.
- A Channeling rit — just beyond sexy. DwG, maybe?
- An ele — if we can push team damage high enough, we might be able to pz thugs out gloriously with Invoke.
- A Paragon — save yourselves trololo
We have to include some kind of healing/protection:
- Ether Renewal — 2 eles who get to spamspamspam their hearts out.
- HA backline — rit and two monks for most honour
- Dervs — Meditation could work, I guess.
Thoughts? — Raine Valen 0:53, 5 Apr 2011 (UTC)
- An MM bomber could work out, though I'm not certain if there's any particular reason than MMs have never hopped into the UW PUG meta (I don't main Necro, so I'm not certain if there's a corpse restriction there - though that can be overcome, of course. Dervishes are entirely in - an in fact, I'll volunteer to WS blindspam, as I've fallen in love with its spike potential (i.e. it made my meta page); Pious is also very OP if you'd like to run this. And while we're on the subject of OP, Shatter Hex is ~120 armor-ignoring damage; it's beautiful - and I'd imagine it'd tear faces off on the Chaos Plains. Earth Shaking is always welcome of course (D/W and Hammer W/Any sounds nice, right?). I'm certain that the midline should remain in the midline, so DwG spam might be best traded for Invoke or the like.
- I'd say, for the backline, the trade should be either the SY! Para or the ER E/Mos, but not both. So zzzzz. I've not found a way to swing Dervs so well, other than a bit of Theorycraft with Pious and Sig Pious Light. I think the Para and the HA backline would make all this exciting for them, which is good. :> -- Oiseau | 01:13, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
- Jagged Bones is obligatory on rit MMs. Shambling, Jagged, and Minions for 2 (recyclable) minions per corpse!
- Shatter Hex should also win at Wastes, lolfrozenburst.
- Para and tombsline sounds sweet.
- Looks like it's BALANCED, baby! — Raine Valen 3:40, 5 Apr 2011 (UTC)
- And with the 'Y' Minion Window update, there's no excuse for there not to be enormous explosions erupting from our minion wall! :> -- Oiseau | 04:12, 5 April 2011 (UTC)
Sinks vs transfers[edit]
I reverted your edit that added customization to the list of important Gold sinks since currently, the top of the page defines the term to be strictly about removing currency from the game (as an anti-inflationary mechanic). Any wealth traded among players does not reduce the total in-game wealth, therefore preventing any specific trades doesn't meet the standard.
For example, crafting Destroyer weapons is a sink: it removes both currency and currency equivalents from the game. But once the weapon is in the economy, trading it between players doesn't affect the total in-game wealth, only who has that wealth; the 60k (equivalent) has already been removed from the game. Customization of the weapon merely prevents that wealth from being transferred; it does not sink any additional wealth from the economy. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 23:52, 6 April 2011 (UTC)
- Slight disagree on that last point: I would pay good money for that candy cane staff customized for Savage Cheater, but Auron won't log on (also I don't have good money). -- Armond{{Bacon}} 19:43, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, that's a wealth transfer, not a wealth sink: Auron gets the money and you get the
shaftstaff; nothing is removed from the economy. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:49, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, that's a wealth transfer, not a wealth sink: Auron gets the money and you get the
- Alright, I cannot think of any reason that Customization should be included, under that definition of Gold Sink. Thank you for clarifying. -- Oiseau | 21:00, 7 April 2011 (UTC)
- While customization doesn't remove gold from te game directly (well, 10g lol), it takes items off of the market, thereby removing them from the economy, in practice (with, of course, Armond's Exception). Because fewer items are available on the market due to customization, those components from which these items were crafted, as well as the fees for such, need to be sunk again in order for the market to remain stable (which it does).
- tl;dr every customization requires re-acquiring of the item in question and this reacquisition is a gold sink for crafted items. — Raine Valen 3:49, 8 Apr 2011 (UTC)
- Non-transferable wealth is still wealth; the toon with customized d-weapons for all heroes still has those d-weapons. There's no difference between reacquisition and acquisition, in terms of how much money is sunk. An easier example is armor, which is auto-customized; the value was still sucked out of the economy.
- The reason that the economy remains stable is that sinks work: as long as enough people are willing to pay 6-9k for ecto, someone will be willing to farm it. As long as enough people want Obbi armor and Chaos gloves, people will be willing to pay 6-9k for ecto. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 04:09, 8 April 2011 (UTC)
anomalous or not[edit]
Re: black moa, If it wasn't anomalous, fix the anomaly note instead of removing the entire piece. 69.182.135.34 23:34, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- It's not anomalous, and it's not noteworthy. The other two articles don't have the same note, and they shouldn't, because it simply doesn't matter. -- FreedomBound 23:37, 29 April 2011 (UTC)
- @69.182.135.34: Instead of trying to keep adding in a note (that does not seem to have support for inclusion), could you instead try to discuss what you want to see in the article (or articles)? The right place to do that is Talk:Black Moa. Thanks. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:02, 30 April 2011 (UTC)

Accountability[edit]
How do I take it? elix Omni 05:14, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
- It was phrased in the past tense, I'm afraid, as the damage seems done and, it seems, the act would be somewhat irrelevant. I was referring to comment you made as an IP (apparently in the wake of many other IP bans) which resulted in your University's IP ban - and more pertinently, your subsequent
posting on the Admin Noticeboardrequest for Raine's reconfirmation and Raine's talk, in which no mention was made of the former, extenuating circumstances, but rather blame was laid on Raine. - As I first stated though, there's little to no point in having this discussion after the fact. -- Oiseau | 14:39, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
- You are wrong for a veritable cornucopia of reasons. First, any simpleton can see that IP was a) a legitimate contributor in its own right and b) me. Looking at either the talk page (of which the mere existence for IPs indicates either past administrative actions or a repeat contributor) or the contributions would have shown it was not what Raine assumed. That is the first step any sysop should take before passing judgment. Yet instead of immediately requesting her RfR I instead told her on her talk page that she messed up and asked her to fix it. Indeed, I waited until the next day when I saw she had read the comment and made other comments on her talk page yet decided it would be okay to ignore her mistake that I started the RfR, which was immediately echoed by a crapload of other wikians. And even without this incident Raine was still a terrible sysop who should never have had tools in the first place. See Auron's comment here and Sardauker's rationale under the RfR section here. Bottom line: you may think I instigated her de-sysoption, and you'd be right, because that was exactly my intention, but the "accountability" lies only with Raine. And there will be a point in having this discussion until everyone realizes Raine's loss of tools was not a witch hunt or a bus-throwing-under but the long overdue correction of a shortsighted error in judgment. elix Omni 20:25, 11 May 2011 (UTC)
- I'm not passing any judgment - and given that the opinion of the userbase should not affect the ability of the Admins to perform their duties, I do not see how that is viable reasoning for this or any other discourse. However, it seems that Ryuu is misinformed on several accounts, given both the narrative he wrote and the comment on his Talk now labeled with your name. If indeed that is the case, I have no problem respecting the decisions of the Wiki's b'crats and leaving it at that. -- Oiseau | 21:45, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

- imo, "Matters." is the most appropriate response, here. — Raine Valen 21:55, 11 May 2011 (UTC)

- ?? How do you mean? I'm the GWW editor formerly better known as Oiseau, at least here. -- Oiseau | 06:06, 10 September 2021 (UTC)

- Ah, yes. Because it ended up in my e-mail, surprisingly enough. So I thought, given that bit of serendipity - my seeing the e-mail, and your comment - it would be humorous to confirm your comment, i.e. "the email [notification] button sure does work". -- Oiseau | 23:32, 11 September 2021 (UTC)
