Hunt to black areas in the mod[edit]

Infinite's contributions[edit]

(Reset indent) [1] Here you go, you missed this. ;) - Infinite - talk 22:28, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
And it may be good to note that these PvP zones are entirely optional for cartographer: [2] - Infinite - talk 22:28, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Even the Desolation can't be forgotten: [3] - Infinite - talk 22:28, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
All of these are without SaO. - Infinite - talk 22:31, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Edit: Except the first one. - Infinite - talk 23:03, 11 May 2015 (UTC)
Great Job, Infinite ! ;) Your pieces are really interesting. I will add all this in the next update. I need to doublecheck the desolation piece, especially if no Sao needed. For the second piece, Cantha has become quite hard without FA so this will be most welcome for everyone. I wanted not to modify God of Fissures' with too much information but now i really need to. Borders of FA and JQ should also be added. I'm not sure about these being optionnal if not using portal jump. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.50.216.88 (talk) at 09:26, 12 May 2015 (UTC).
Cantha has utilized Winds of Change part 3 to make up for the reduced maximum percentage, without PvP areas a little bit. Yet you will still need HoS/VD for it without PvP. I suspect one can map a lot more using SaO in the WoC-altered areas, too. - Infinite - talk 09:34, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
Never bothered with WoC, too few rewards with too high difficulty. Aren't WoC-altered map just copy/paste from original areas ? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.50.216.88 (talk) at 09:50, 12 May 2015 (UTC).
They might be complete copy pastes, but they might be missing specific objects, leading to additional percentages. Not sure, though. - Infinite - talk 17:32, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
The desolation part is pissing me off. Seriously...--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 17:54, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
You were right, this part can be unlocked, so okay and this will make my job easier. More map, less black/red :) [4]--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 18:05, 12 May 2015 (UTC)
Update done, check it ;)--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 18:26, 13 May 2015 (UTC)

(Reset indent) This was done by a new character at Battle Isles. Slight lines touch-up and then it's perfect. :) P.S. The name of the quest for the area between the Zaishen outposts is actually called "The Path of the Zaishen Elite" instead of to. - Infinite - talk 14:41, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

You're correct, I made a mistake because that part was actually a black part that could be reached by wall hugging in the previous version. Then I had that big part through quest that poped up and I made the new update base on screenshot of the whole black part. By the way, I don't know if the quest can be taken by all characters (may need to take it/give up with each char, i'll test it on alt). All I can say is : don't accept reward, for you'll lose total access to that part.--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 16:24, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
Edit : It can be taken by any other char, but you'll need to redo the previous quests--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 16:24, 19 May 2015 (UTC)
This is which part of the area can be mapped from Arkjok Ward. I like the dual lines like you did south-east of Dzagonur Bastion. ;) - Infinite - talk 23:18, 22 May 2015 (UTC)
About the portal jump in Marga Coast : if there are two ways to uncover the fog, i'll add info about the one that uncovers the most. I still mention that some area can be mapped using blabla if it's easier but i don't display the area. If the same area can be uncovered, i'll point out the easiest method to do so.--82.240.45.162 00:13, 23 May 2015 (UTC)
In that case, only from the other side uncovers the whole area. From Arkjok Ward, that slither remains. - Infinite - talk 00:14, 23 May 2015 (UTC)

(Reset indent) Hi again! I found another little blast from the past. Doesn't contribute to any titles, though: Old TA area. - Infinite - talk 20:56, 22 June 2017 (UTC)

Awesome, I love it ! Not too much of a blast of the past for me (I never get into the outpost -_-), but the more complete the mod the better :) And yes, two years is a lot, still someone (Hermann Hasenfuss) managed to find a helpful new spot so I update the mod and try to see if my skill in doing this job is still here.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 17:49, 23 June 2017 (UTC)
Also fun to note, JQ/FA maps are now completely skippable (save watching the intro videos for both and moving a bit in them), even without breaking the game with SoA chains and gate glitches! 100% Canthan Cartographer is finally not a nuisance! - Infinite - talk 18:25, 13 July 2017 (UTC)

BlueNovember's contributions[edit]

http://imgur.com/a/qoRIl 10 spots, mostly old pvp areas. PvE spots in Blacktide den, Aurora glade, Sacnoth valley, and 2 red-boxes in Cantha. -- BlueNovember (talk) 09:57, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

Excellent work, i'm speechless :O Shiverpeaks and sunspear arena must still be explorable like the ascalon one. I think the area close to Blacktide Den has been corrected already in the latest update. How did you get the part close to senji's corner ? Oh well, time to explore again :)--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 10:17, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Aurora Glade is easy to get, just need to stand here And for Sacnoth Valley, there --Ruine Eternelle (talk) 13:19, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
For canthan parts, maybe your character is old enough to have explored it when the undercity was still on the surface ?--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 13:32, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
I don't think so. I've another character that's much younger that also has a cleaner Cantha. No portal jumping. --BlueNovember (talk) 14:07, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Ill still go with my theory for now, since it seems to me as the most plausible one. Could you get a clean screenshot of the crystal desert arena ? It seems like you can uncover more to the south east of the arena.--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 21:05, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Sure. Also TA outpost, probably only partially-explored. --BlueNovember (talk) 19:49, 17 May 2015 (UTC)
Still great :) Left to do : all the parts from Arty which are really promising and the battle islands. Then update 1.1. Thanks a lot !--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 20:02, 17 May 2015 (UTC)

Lohaf's Contributions[edit]

Decided to reinstall Texmod after using it to complete legendary cartographer many years ago, and noticed this little spot. Not exactly sure how I got to it originally, but hope it helps with the hunt. Lohaf (talk) 14:26, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

It helps ALOT :) Good job on that one, will add it in next update ! One should be able to reach it by the north part, near the end of the mission. Btw, what's your avatar IG ?
Happy to see it was helpful. Lohaf Arawion is my character's name. I've also noticed a few black spots in the Battle Isles in case that's included in the hunt. One requires a one-time quest to access, here; and the other ones seem to be just corner spots in Heroes' Ascent and the Menagerie, here. Lohaf (talk) 17:08, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
All this is awesome :) Not sure the battle islands map will help a lot of poeple but i found still it great xD I'm taking back what i said earlier about the part in the ring of fire : I just did the mission and i can't seem to get it. Must be some cutscene or from an outpost.--Ruine Eternelle (talk) 17:44, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Edit : the ring of fire part is definitely strange. Got it on my sin who just completed Ring of fire and scrapped a lot , but none of my other character allthough they stayed in the exact same place in the Ring of Fire outpost...
I'm almost thinking of a theory there, there must be several places around the ring of fire mission and outpost where you need to stand for that piece...
So I've dug around and found a tool for browsing the GW.dat file. It has a lot of interesting things, including old maps, but it contains over 175k files and it cannot be sorted appropriately. For now, I figured it would be interesting to share these [Battle Isles], [Istan], [Nolani Academy], though I think you can already see any "unfoggable" bits through the mod. Lohaf (talk) 23:51, 20 May 2015 (UTC)
Nice work :) I am quite familiar with these textures, since basically I worked on it. Texmod just replace this with a new map (which I have created) and change the fog to the blue filter. Btw, if you can get Vabbi you'll see Ahmtur Arena (which is unaccessible) and several other features such as something close to Bloodstone Fen that seems like another pvp arena. All old pvp arenas have been removed, as you can see on the mod. I could send you a completed map with the blue fog, not sure that it would be useful to you though.

aRTy's Contributions[edit]

5 Screenshots here.

1) In Regent Valley, I'm pretty sure it's during April Fools.
2) Portal jump from Magus Stones to Alcazia Tangle. Portal jump from Riven Earth to Arbor Bay. Southeast of Arbor Bay: Just scratching the wall, the critical point is at a bend of the wall.
3) Portal jump Verdant Cascades to Varajar Fells. I did this one quite a while ago using Mercantile Summoning Stones which were updated since and are no longer usable for those tricks, but I think SoA chaining should work too.
4) Also used Merchants here and the portal is increadibly vast, I think this one can't be accomplished anymore.
5) The little southern spot was already posted. The large one at Doomlore Shrine involves both a portal jump and then glitching into and through the barricade blocking the trail to the dungeon by using minions. Not sure if you want to take that one into account, since it is fairly complicated (and I'm also not sure when people start calling exploit, as it is definitely about abusing terrain and/or pathing bugs). The method can also be used to map the Nightfall starting area, so that one is not exclusive to those who started there and thought of right away.

Thanks for your project by the way, your map had two regular tiny spots in EotN that I didn't have yet, even though I had a huge mapping and portal jumping project a few years ago. Made it to a good 1,034 Master of the North title points and hoped that your spots might grant me the 1,035 milestone, since it feels like it is not missing much, but unfortunately it didn't suffice. However, chances are that more will come up with people gathering stuff here.

Besides my wiki user discussion page you can also contact me ingame if you like: Ar Ty. --aRTy 21:05, 16 May 2015 (UTC)

That's incredible intel you got me here, sir ! Just had a look at the mercantile summoning stone thing and it looks awesome, though random. Increase the range of Recall so much more. That's a bit sad that it does not work anymore, I would have tried the last portal around sunspear sanctuary with it. About SaO chains i'm not sure they will work, since I tried myself all the portals you mentionned and couldn't jump any. However i was a bit lazy and didn't bring Quickening zephyr on my heroes (worst mistake ever) so it took too much time and i may not have tried enough. And you're welcome for the tiny bits I found (i'm quite proud of the one in jaga moraine)--Ruine Eternelle82.240.45.162 22:56, 16 May 2015 (UTC)
Edit : you have one missing part in ascalon btw ;)
About the Sacnoth Valley teleport: I don't think it gives any extra map parts, it was just a funny thing to do: See Talk:Raven. --aRTy 20:47, 18 May 2015 (UTC)
Update done, latest version is 1.1.1--193.50.216.88 08:58, 19 May 2015 (UTC)

Duncan's Contributions[edit]

Not a black spot, but I figured you'd appreciate it anyway. I uncovered that bit without entering the JQ mission itself, at the bottom of the stairs in the outpost. DuncanDryear 14:37, 16 November 2016 (UTC)

Thank you very much ! I don't know when I will be able to mod again, but I will not forget to update that. Good game and good luck on your cartography --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 17:59, 17 November 2016 (UTC)

IGMM (All) Compatibility[edit]

This updated file does not work properly if In Game Mission Maps (All).tpf is also enabled, still can see Blue fog but that's it, most of notes and colored lines are removed upon activating IGMM (All) mod. Original file from Mystical Chaos was working fine with the IGMM (All).

Cartography Events[edit]

Please put your message here a week before the day where you want an event to take place. State day and UTC hour, and also district. This place is mainly for any Aspenwood/Low level PvP arena cartography ;)

Fort Aspenwood Event[edit]

Was looking for a better place to post this, but our alliance will be sponsoring a Fort Aspenwood event for fun tonight, June 14th at 21:00 UTC. I urge my fellow cartographers to participate, and possibly uncover new areas as this place is of relatively limited access. You can find more information on my Reddit post here. Lohaf (talk) 15:42, 14 June 2015 (UTC)

Excellent idea :) I will try to be in !--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 20:17, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
It was great fun! Took us a few extra minutes to sort out the remaining spots, but most of us stayed long enough for four matches! I wasn't able to scrape any black areas while playing on either side, so I believe the data we have is accurate. Lohaf (talk) 23:06, 14 June 2015 (UTC)
I'm glad you could get in :) Hope you enjoyed the game, even if no new part was to be found ! --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 20:26, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
It was definitely set up on too short of a notice, and I'll make sure our next event is planned better. One thing worth mentioning is that there was a very small corner at this spot that I was only able to uncover by talking to the Luxon Commander NPC at Fort Aspenwood (Luxon), choosing the "Replay Cinematic" option and hitting the movement keys as the cinematic played out. Lohaf (talk) 22:21, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Interesting indeed :o , I'll add it in the suggestion list. Good job ;) !--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 08:02, 16 June 2015 (UTC)

Your questions about the mod[edit]

Kodonur Cutscene[edit]

And is this note correct? I've watched it three times now and it's still not uncovered. - Infinite - talk 23:58, 22 May 2015 (UTC)

100% sure about that cutscene, this is the one with Zhed talking about being prisonners. Try moving around a bit with keyboard. I discovered it on my monk and tried again on my elementalist, this part was uncovered at the end of this cutscene.

(Reset indent) Are you absolutely 100% sure it's that cinematic? Because I get this. - Infinite - talk 17:05, 28 May 2015 (UTC)

For the cinematic sorry but I am 100% sure. I really don't know the exact conditions, but discovered it on my monk then i tried on my ele right away and it unfogged during that cinematic from Korsu. But perhaps it's like the part in Ring of Fire Island and you need additional other conditions (like watching the end cutscene using keyboard too). I can't understand how that works.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 17:58, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Edit : just tried on ranger, warrior, assassin : all worked at first try. Almost all my chars have it now. I don't know how you do it, but there's something you're not doing good.
Right, time to show you step by step what I do and what happens on every single one of my characters:
We log in and open the world map with CME running, which shows me the following map situation: [5]
The note mentions Korsu has the cinematic available for replay, so to Korsu we go: [6]
We select "Replay the mission cinematic." when he asks us if there is anything he can do to help: [7]
The cutscene starts (...): [8]
(...) and we start moving vigorously to trigger the cartography: [9]
Really trying our best: [10]
And even with the millisecond of "free movement" we get before the loading screen, the result is always the same: [11]
I'm not sure what I could possibly be doing wrong at this point. - Infinite - talk 13:21, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
EDIT: After trying multiple characters today, when I returned to one of them, this magically happened: [12] Take note that when I logged out of it before returning, it wasn't uncovered yet. What I do know of that character is that it experienced some unexpected latency and could walk farther out in the free movement between cutscene and loading screen. - Infinite - talk 13:36, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

(Reset indent) A small note on lines: There is a square area that can be uncovered near the Elonian tutorial area without using portal jumping or minion tricks that seems to be missing from the current CME version: [13] (directly south of Consulate Docks)- Infinite - talk 13:30, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Well at least you finally got it xD Sorry for being sarcastic, maybe you're right and it just worked better for me because i have a really bad network and a lot of latency. I know how bothersome it is to have to do things over and over again for just 0,1%, please excuse me for what I said earlier. You're doing great !
About that last part you showed me : I also have it. Your character most certainly did one or two death teleportation in chabhek village.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 20:16, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
I forgot about the Necrotic-Traversal-onto-the-boat part, yeah. ;) - Infinite - talk 20:38, 15 June 2015 (UTC)
Cheers ! :) On a side note, if it weren't for me moving around with no reason during cutscene, neither you or me would know about it--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 20:39, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Pogahn Passage : Two Minion Tricks in a row[edit]

On a tangent, it should probably be noted on the mod that you need to bypass two gates in a row in Pogahn Passage to uncover the south-east spot. - Infinite - talk 17:16, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
EDIT: [14] The spot where I uncovered it. - Infinite - talk 17:19, 2 June 2015 (UTC)
Thanks for that precision. Having discovered that part in Gandara coming from the other side of the fortress, i wasn't really sure. Well, I'm glad i can at least find an example of double minion trick :)--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 20:54, 15 June 2015 (UTC)

Seeker's Passage[edit]

The mod appears to crash when I try to zone into seeker's passage in the desert, the whole game crashes, when using uMod. Any suggestions? 50.39.169.4 07:12, 12 November 2016 (UTC)
Late reply but what is uMod ? The mod has been made for texmod so I would not try another mod software if I were you. Aside from that I do not see any rational reason for the mod to crash in that specific location. I am not an expert with all that machinery though. Tell me if the matter also occurs with texmod.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 11:09, 15 December 2016 (UTC)

Frost Gate south sliver[edit]

Hey, i'm having trouble with this last spot in the Frost Gate : https://imgur.com/a/f9WnmWL I feel like i can't reach it with death teleportation update, does anyone have confirmation this is still reachable ? I thought about trying the masterless minion trick on the gate leading to rurik's path just before you get the lever at the end of the mission, but i very rarely have success doing this trick (preventing olias from moving is hard haha). Thanks in advance =) - Dinichou 06:10, 15 January 2022 (UTC)
Hey, maybe I can help. This spot is still reachable, only the ones which are enclosed by the yellow line were once reachable with teleportation trick. When you get to the final part of the mission where you have to open the frost gate, you have to open the southern part first, kill all the dwarves and then "wall hug" the side pointing towards the canyon. I already see that you have been there before. Another option would be to enter Lornar's Pass and walk to the easternmost part where the Ice Imps reside and wall hug the mountain or a little south of this location where the Ice Golems are to get this sliver. I remember it was hard to reach unfortunately. Cheers, Azura (talk) 21:16, 16 January 2022 (UTC)
I appreciate your help, thank you =) However, after spending another 2 hours trying to wall-hug and playing with the camera on frost gate and lornar's pass, i still haven't been able to uncover it :( I think i might just give this spot up :/ - Dinichou 06:06, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
I did the mission again with a character who hasn't done it before and I found that you actually have to watch the cutscene at the end of the mission to uncover this sliver. Cheers, Azura (talk) 18:58, 18 January 2022 (UTC)
Can't believe i didn't think of that! You're amazing, it indeed works, thank you ! :D - Dinichou 01:26, 19 January 2022 (UTC)

LF Help[edit]

LF another player (if you have a free empty character slot and prophecies) to map the Ascalon Academy PvP arena in pre-searing.
I've got a character in Pre that I don't really need to keep there anymore. I can help anytime today. Toraen - talk 09:06, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
I can try in a few hours (say 2-3hours). What about you ?--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 09:48, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
That works. Pre-Sear IGN: Lineve Kyant. Toraen - talk 10:08, 22 September 2015 (UTC)
LF screenshot : Area unlocked with Evennia death teleportation (at the end of the Wilds).
I might can help. All I lack is Carto for Prophecies and Nightfall. I have all of factions. Just let me know. Rodan (talk) 02:54, 23 September 2015 (UTC)
Have you used Nature Rituals to boost the spiders close to Evennia in the Wilds mission and have you used Necrotic traversal or Consume Corpse to teleport on her dead body ? If you have done it before the update, then you only have to use the mod and get a screenshot of the area on your character (the area should be entirely black with the blue fog gone). However, very few players have done the trick to reach that location.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 06:56, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

File[edit]

I cannot seem to download your file without having to register to the site. Rodan (talk) 03:07, 23 September 2015 (UTC)

Should be good now, check it and tell me if you have any problem.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 14:04, 27 September 2015 (UTC)

Invalid Texmod Package?[edit]

This particular file is giving me the error: "Invalid Texmod Package: Unable to open (file location)." However, I am able to use other versions of the cartography mods without issue. Is the file corrupted or something? I'd like to use it again, I lost it when I wiped my computer and didn't think to save it. edited to add: I've tried downloading it a few times and I have the same problem each time.

I'm having the same issue, I downloaded the file but it says it's file size is 0 and it won't open. Can you try hosting the file on Mega or something? 73.231.250.205 18:43, 20 September 2016 (UTC)
I have been doing too much gw2 lately. I will put a link as soon as I put my hands on the file.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 14:21, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
Certain file sharing websites will allow the file to be up permanently if you sign up for them (as long as the file isn't too large). This may be worth looking into. - Infinite - talk 14:55, 20 October 2016 (UTC)
Click here to get the mod. Tell me if you get any trouble running it. Thanks for the advice, Infinite. I will definitely look for it.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 15:28, 20 October 2016 (UTC)

A new area has been uncovered[edit]

Yakbendmm.jpg

A new area found by Mala Gusar. Requires portal jump + minion trick. Minion trick the barrier close to one of the dolyaks. Will be added in the next update.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 11:12, 15 August 2017 (UTC)

I'll simply add this here because it's fitting:

ArborBaySpot.jpg

Jut got it randomly during Zinn's Trial, just after scrapping the wall behind the portal.

And re: Ring of Fire spot, here's the exact spot where I stood to unveil it. Don't know if this is random / lucky or of any use for you though.

Note about SaO chains to Vasburg Armory[edit]

Hey, first of all thank you for your mod. I noticed a small mistake in the in-game, on-map description on how to reach the sliver North of the Vasburg Armory outpost.

Most of it can be reached from a EG -> VA SaO chain (by going to the location of the rez shrine in Morostav Trail). However, this leaves a small sliver of fog to the West. To unlock this one, you need to (or at least I had to) perform a MT -> VA SaO chain. It removes a shrine inside the Vasburg Armory and yields this last sliver (as decribed here). The on-map text doesn't mention that second chain. 92.141.140.213 16:56, 26 December 2019 (UTC)

Yet another area[edit]

Hey, I found another uncoverable area in Magus Stones which needs wall hugging in a dead end east of the portal to Arachni's Haunt. Included is the area which was mentioned earlier by Thanatos.

Magus Stones

Also, there is an area in Kaineng City which is only uncoverable by gaining access to Vizunah Square (Local Quarter), but you can actually uncover a part of it by wall hugging in the final area where Shiro appears during the Vizunah Square Mission.

During the mission (Area marked with C)

After exploring Xaquang Skyway

Greetings, Azura (talk) 14:40, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

Thanks you for using the mod, and thank you for putting your contributions on the wiki, it's greatly appreciated !
Not gonna lie, I have not updated the mod at all for a long time. Nice to know about these additions. The magus stone one may be big if it allows to skip a dungeon. --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 14:54, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Well thank you (and the other contributors of course) for this great mod! I enjoyed uncovering every little piece of the map!
What do you mean with skipping a dungeon? Azura (talk) 15:07, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
NM Dungeon, NM mission, this kind of stuff. For the master of the north title. aRTY was saying that the current map was not enough to allow to skip any, but with this maybe we can.--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 15:15, 4 June 2020 (UTC)
Ah that would be quite interesting if this is possible. I just read your edit to the "The mod is not perfect" section. My description for uncovering this tiny bit in Magus Stones might have been a little confusing, but you actually do not need a portal jump to uncover this area. Azura (talk) 16:05, 4 June 2020 (UTC)

How to uncover these areas?[edit]

These. There are large swathes of seemingly inaccessible areas around the edges of some maps that still appear in the mod as uncoverable. Can someone give tips how to reveal them? -- kazerniel (talk) 18:21, 23 August 2020 (UTC)

Actually, those areas are indeed inaccessible and should not be marked as uncoverable. Instead, they should appear black. Are you using the latest version of the map? Are you using any other third party tool like GWToolbox? These might interfere with each other. When I use TexMod and the latest map version without other tools, those areas are black as intented. What Azura said. Thanks Azura !--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 22:43, 23 August 2020 (UTC)
Interesting! I'm using the 2015 1.3 version. After some poking around in uMod it turns out the cluprit was the disabled In-game Mission Maps mod. The maps look as they should when both mods are enabled, or IGMM is disabled and under Cartography, but when IGMM is disabled and on top, it produces those fake-discoverable borders O.o Thanks folks, good to know I'm not missing something obvious in how to scrape maps :D -- kazerniel (talk) 12:11, 24 August 2020 (UTC)

SaO help?[edit]

Sorry to be a bother again, but I'm stumped with a few areas. I do a SaO chain until the range limit of the shout, but when I Recall I still enter the map every time. I guess it's an angle issue? If someone could give suggestions, I would be really grateful.

The ones I'm stuck with:

  1. The two areas between Vehjin Mines & Holdings of Chokhin. Didn't work in either direction.
  2. The tiny space between Forum Highlands and Garden of Seborhin. (It could only work in one direction anyway due to the gate NPC, isn't it?)

Plus a non-SaO one: The area north-east of Wehhan Terraces. I lick the walls of the outpost, but there's still quite a slice that doesn't uncover.

Many thanks! -- kazerniel (talk) 14:27, 12 September 2020 (UTC)

I am afraid I won't be of much help, you did the correct thing everywhere.
SaO chains are sometimes fickle. Did you try standing on one side of the portal ? It might work better. Between Forum Highlands and Garden of Seborhin it could be quest-dependent. What did I wrote on the map ? Forum to Gardens or Gardens to Forum (or both) ? If I recall right it should be Forum to Gardens.
For the non-SaO it's a hard spot, you have to hug the walls of the outposts close to the entrance to the caverns (see screenshot below).
Good luck !--Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 08:02, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Edit:makes me realize that a mod that can display the area covered by portals would be quite helpful here, but it may be too difficult or impossible to do.

I remember that you have to jump into the left wall using SaO-chain in the case of Vehjin Mines, as it has no collision detection. Also, you have to go as nearest as possible into the portal on the left side without triggering it. This maximises the range of the Sao-chain. Greetings, Azura (talk) 09:31, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Thanks a lot folks, I'll give these a try :)
Re: Garden of Seborhin - the mod says: "Mapped by SaO chain from Garden of Seborhin to Forum highlands or vice versa". The gate guard NPC is always there - before the Grand Court of Sebelkeh mission he requires Tahlkora in the party, but even after completing the whole campaign (and the map turning back from Nightfallen Garden to the regular one), you still need to talk to the guard to get ported to the Garden. Maybe there is a way to skip through the closed gate behind him? For quest dependency I've done all secondary quests on that character, and the wiki doesn't say any of them would influence access 🤷‍♂️
Re: portal highlight mod - it would indeed by very useful :) Maybe it could be a texture mod that has the areas marked on the map texture itself, that would be visible in the compass. Exploring the area boundaries would just require one successful jump through, then figuring out the exact border with hero flagging. A ton of work but it sounds possible? Though with the map resolution available it probably couldn't be very precise. -- kazerniel (talk) 11:14, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Started collecting some screenshots of portal boundaries here: User:Kazerniel/Portal boundaries. Though I just finished Canthan Cartographer today (that last 0.2% was vexing!), so I probably won't take any more screenshots of that campaign. -- kazerniel (talk) 16:57, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
Nice ! I don't know how we can integrate this in the wiki though. --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 17:36, 4 October 2020 (UTC)
If I remember correctly, the Garden of Seborhin needs to be in its corrupted state for you to get past the now opened gate via SaO-chain, as the guard is not blocking the way anymore. Before Grand Court of Sebelkeh mission and after Abaddons Gate mission the gate is closed, in which case you have to perform your SaO-chain from Garden of Seborhin to Forum Highlands. Greetings, Azura (talk) 11:44, 14 September 2020 (UTC)
Yay, the Wehhan Terraces trick worked :) Good to know about the Nightfallen Garden access! I just realised I didn't actually do Heart or Mind: Garden in Danger (I went the village route), so now that I picked it up I managed to uncover that missing part with a SaO chain :) -- kazerniel (talk) 19:43, 14 September 2020 (UTC)

The Battle for Lion's Arch[edit]

Hello again, I was curious about the note on the quests page about exploring a small ledge past the lighthouse, so I thought I provide a screenshot for the uncovered part of the map. Cheers, Azura (talk) 12:38, 21 April 2021 (UTC)

old PvP arenas[edit]

Hiya, I have an old character that has some black areas in the removed PvP outposts. If you are still updating and want the info I could provide if you tell me what you need from me. Justice (talk) 00:26, 25 April 2021 (UTC)

Thank you very much for your help, I really appreciate it, even for something as small as removed content.
Working on the mod has been a great joy and pride for me all these years, and the help of everyone is a real drive. You can post the screenshots here but to be completely honest with you I have a lot of other things I want/need to do and updating the mod is really far down the priority list now.
Thanks again for the help, and cheers ! --Ruine User Ruine Eternelle Ruine Eternelle.jpg Eternelle 17:18, 26 April 2021 (UTC)
Ok I am uploading the pictures for if you ever feel like updating.

It would be awesome if Anet would introduce some kind of nostalgia NPC who allows players to simply explore those outposts. Azura (talk) 09:23, 21 June 2021 (UTC)
you can still see these areas through random arenas and maybe zaishen challenge so an npc for it doesn't make much sense. Justice (talk) 19:05, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
Yes I'm fully aware of this fact, but I meant it in a way to actually explore these areas to uncover the map like in the good old times, as well as those which are at least in theory accessible like the Ascalon Arena. Azura (talk) 20:22, 22 June 2021 (UTC)
You can suggest a nostalgia NPC in the resurrected low-hanging fruit thread :) -- kazerniel (talk | contribs) 12:57, 23 June 2021 (UTC)

Requirement of SaO-Chain[edit]

Hello again, I found out that you do not really require a SaO-Chain to uncover the sliver marked with the number 2 at the transition from "Cliffs of Dohjok" to "Beknur Harbor". Instead, you can simply do the portal jump trick as suggested in the note for the sliver marked with number 1, hug the rock directly opposite to the portal as far as allowed without triggering the transition (position your hero as a marker) and do another "portal jump" to the other side of the transition area. I have proof if needed. Cheers, Azura (talk) 21:41, 14 August 2022 (UTC)
