Woah, nice! Love the effect that the skillbox background creates. ^-^ lovely! -- ab.er.rant 09:14, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks! Using an existing CSS class and monkeying with it inline worked out alright! :) - Thulsey - talk 09:43, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
I soooo love your user page. I've no idea how to do that stuff. (I.E. Creating templates, impementing css on a wiki page etc.) LOL, I'm sooo glad i found yout template for game characters. Wish there were some easy to use templates to userpages aswell :P My friend is now using your template too. (duno if he told you yet) You can see it here:User:Faelyn/Characters DBZVelena | (Talk page) 20:48, 4 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks, that's quite inspiring! Hmmm, a userpage template might be handy, indeed. I appreciate the note about Faelyn's characters, I'll keep an eye on your friend's page. You both may also want to check out Lensor's template as something to link to from the name of your character - it lets you add much more information.- Thulsey - talk 04:03, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- Its nice but takes way to much room. I like your boxes better. :P DBZVelena | (Talk page) 16:27, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
- Also those boxes don't line up again... >_< DBZVelena | (Talk page) 16:31, 5 June 2007 (UTC)
Using your template too! -> http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/User:Laibcoms/Characters Thanks for the great effort and contribution!! Though I noticed that the profession logo on the description is not centered.. THanks again!! Laibeus Lord 10:28, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for the note, and you're quite welcome for the boxes! :) No, the logo is not centered - that was a decision I made consciously because the icons used on the site are not really all 100% the same aspect ratio, width or height, so they don't all line up perfectly when centered. Off-centered wound up being more interesting to me, and also allows the first few words in your description to stand out a bit better. Or not. Heh. - Thulsey - talk 15:25, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Been using your templates, found them because somebody on the GWOnline forums used them. They are great! Now, I need to fill them all in :D I also noticed that the profession images aren't full-sized in IE, but are in FF. Lady Rhonwyn 13:59, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
- I recognize you from GWO forums :). Thanks for letting me know, I'll look into it and see if I can fix it. - Thulsey - talk 17:41, 20 June 2007 (UTC)
Line up of Character boxes
Well, they don't. And I have no idea how to fix it. For some reason the boxes are not all the same size. Where do you state how big a box should be (and stay)? I like Laibcoms idea on linking to a seperat page for each character. I might do that. But I first want those boxes to line up. DBZVelena | (Talk page) 14:01, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Aha! I think I found a reason why your boxes aren't lining up correctly - your ritualist's name is longer than the others and breaking to a second line. I'll change the template and see if I can make the boxes a touch wider to work with longer character names. You should see a change soon. Thanks for bringing this to my attention! - Thulsey - talk 15:02, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
Ok, I added a new parameter to the template: width. :-)
Add the following to your boxes (anywhere is fine)
|width=220
By default it will set the box to 200, but in some cases (like yours) the name is longer than will fit in a 200px box. When this happens, it has to break to the next line, which basically changes the height of that box. The others won't change, though. In this kind of situation, I would change all of your boxes to be as wide as they need to be to fit the name. I am guessing 220 for you will be enough. Maybe not. Tweak until it works! :-) - Thulsey - talk 15:22, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks for adding the with bit, I don't mind the editing help, i need all the help i can get :P Any chance you can add a height thing to those boxes too? so that the room between each box is the same no matter how much text is in the description box. User page layouts (template)
Hi there! Just a quick note to say that I really love your user page layout! I have been searching GWW like mad trying to find good ones that I could use on mine, and yours is one of those that I really love. Do you allow others to use it, too? If you do, I have created a new userbox and wanted to see if you would be interested in adding it to your page. Template:User page layout. Just trying to come up with an easier way for folks to find user page layouts that people are sharing. I don't want to just take without asking, and I know others feel the same way! If you do not want your UPLs used for this purpose, I apoligize for bothering you. Have a great day! -- RowenaFelborn 14:00, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- Nope, don't mind at all if you use them, as I stated on the template page itself, but you're right, that's not so easy to find. :) Glad you enjoy them. I'd be happy to add your userbox to my page, give me a little time and it'll be added (though I'll point out there's a typo: "as long as credit as given" should be "as long as credit is given." Thanks for letting me know you're using them, I appreciate it and am happy that I could make something others enjoy! Let me know if there's any kind of problem you encounter in using them! - Thulsey - talk 14:54, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
Those Cool Background Pictures
i want those on my character pages as well :D what would be the easiest way to fix that? :P how do you create a css to work together with your wiki page? :D -ArcticWind 17:19, 13 June 2007 (UTC)
- There is an actual templete you can use for making Character pages here: User:Lensor/Character tables
- I went through a lot of trouble trying to customize css for the wiki only to find out: you can't. You can change your own css file here, but it won't be available for others to see unless they, too, change their css file. That's mostly useful for getting rid of things you don't want to see when you surf the wiki, like the notice on the top of the page, for example.
- Basically, in the end, I used pre-existing styles in the wiki's common.css file; then tweak the style inline so it does more or less what you want it to. Good luck! - Thulsey - talk 01:24, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
I, too, am trying to put another background image in a template, without any success. :( I can create/edit a CSS page, but I haven't a clue how to get the template to pick up the CSS. I even looked around for the div class 'skill-box -Profession-', but couldn't find anything like it anywhere. I'm really quite lost, and would love a nudge in the right direction! All I want is for my guild logo to be visible behind some profile text, instead of a profession logo. I hope this isn't something against rules or policies, because it'd be so spiffy! - Good luck. I've discovered that creating something you want to see in a new class won't work - at least not unless you get everyone to add it to their own custom monobook.css file ([[User:you|monobook.css]]), which probably is not the result you want. If it's really just for your guild to enjoy a visual treat, then by all means add something like .myguild{background:url(yourimage.png) center no-repeat;} to everyone's monobook.css file and you're good to go!
- The only way to add a new background image that doesn't already exist that everyone can use and see is to add a class or id to common.css, and I doubt that will happen for anything outside the main namespace. People are particularly picky about guild pages, as well. Unfortunately, wiki text doesn't allow you to apply a background: url() style inline, so you won't be able to do it that way.
- The only reason the skill icons worked in Lensor and my templates is because they are already being called in .skill-box which is located in common.css and called on every skill page you find. I just assigned that class to the table cell I wanted and tweaked it inline a little bit.
- It is a bit discouraging, but at least now I know for certain, and can stop beating my head against it! \o/ Thank you very much for the explanation of that, I appreciate your time in doing so. :) I'll just have to find another way to make it feel all 'guildy' and unique. A little stretch of the imagination can go a long way, so they say.
- Again, thanks a bunch! <3 (EDIT: I keep forgetting to sign these things) 121.44.218.145 02:32, 14 June 2007 (UTC)
Thanks a bunch
Hi Thul! Thanks a bunch for the resizing, it looks so much better now. Just the bottom picture of Arcane looks weird and title isnt too visible. That is my bad though cause its the result of my attempt to crop the image before. And you had to work with that. I think I will take a new screenie, maybe somewhere else and try to do the cropping again myself, hopefully with better results. The rest is awesome. Thanks again. Arcane Guardian
