omg

They got nerft im sure of it... so far all purples and like 2k gold out of the first 5 easiest 24.141.45.72 16:15, 3 January 2008 (UTC)

No, they didn't nerf it. Your character opened it too many times. I'm seeing the same thing on my main character. Even waiting 4 months, I'm still getting mostly purple with only 100-300 gold. But my other characters are still getting the full amount of money plus gold just waiting 1-2 months. -- ab.er.rant sig 01:01, 4 January 2008 (UTC)
Agreed that they aren't nerfed. I just did a full set of them last night along with four of my guildees. None of us had touched any of them since Aug. 28th or before, guaranteed. I was the only one using a character that had never opened one ever. I got all golds and typical gold amounts from each even though I had opened 172 with my other chars prior to last night. None of the other players got even one gold. Not one. One person got a diamond, but otherwise all grape and low gold coin amounts. So yes, number of times opened with a specific character will lessen the quality with subsequent visits even with considerable time. (Clobimon Craiggy 16:37, 9 January 2008 (UTC))

I just got 2 golds out of 2 possible, so not nerfed (or I'm lucky). Missed the part about these resetting every once in a while though, so I've got treasure to collect. From 10 chars. :D — Galil User Galil sig.png 03:02, 13 January 2008 (UTC)

My main has actually only opened half of the treasures twice, the rest only once. Other characters have a total of a few treasures opened at most. After a break of over 2 months I'm getting only purples and very little gold. So the crappyness isn't only based on number of times that chests have been opened, that's for sure. -- Gem (gem / talk) 02:03, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
I can verify the above. My primary character just went through and opened all of them again. Everything was purple except for one which was a diamond. Very disappointing. -- Tarun 17:50, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
I have to agree with Gem, above. Took a long time out to put some chars thru EotN and other stuff (title chasing) - came back and two chests had grapes, two other chests told me to get lost in their own words. Stopped trying with my monk (main) character now. josəph 20:32, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
Think we should just go ahead and ask Gaile or Emily about this? -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 07:54, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
I doubt they will talk about it, because its really not a big deal even if they have nerfed them soemwhat. They have been around for a while, and they have no law saying they should always give golds. Yes it did seem like golds probably were more frequent earlier when they were new. Yes the amount of gold coin you get seems to slowly decrease as well. I still get gold items off of characters that have received at least 5 golds already from a specific chest using my hypothesis (i get golds about 80% of the time and dont get rejected with nothing messages anymore). They probably scaled it back. Consider yourself lucky they still work at all. Its not like they are difficult to reach, you can hit probably 8-9 chests in an hour or two. Whatever you get free, is a gift.--riceball User Riceball Sig.JPG 14:56, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
I'm more curious about the mechanics with which they determine the treasure contents than how much they're giving out. It just seems difficult to figure out. Every time we get close to a possible answer, someone else posts something that throws a wrench on it. But if they do let the cat out of the bag, I suppose it's just gonna be exploited. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 14:44, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
The content? It's actually very easy. All trasures drop either a gem, a weapon or an armor that usually drops from monsters or chests in the area. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 14:57, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
You also have to remember not everyone who states something here is stating factual information. Just because someone might think it some way doesnt mean it was. Maybe their memory is wrong, and maybe they hit some chest account wide earlier that affected their current attempt.--riceball User Riceball Sig.JPG 15:20, 30 March 2008 (UTC)
True, which is why a little official hint might help appease my curiosity :) And Mith, I was referring more to how the amount of gold is determined and whether you get a rare or just an uncommon. It's just strange that my 2nd most active character who opened as much treasure as my main char, is still getting golds, whereas my main char has been getting purples for a long time now. Oh well, you're right though, I too doubt that they'll be forthcoming with this. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 01:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

It could be a whole lot of equations that we probably cant reverse engineer very easily. It could be something based on peoples accounts, like after X number of uses chance of purple goes up 5% or maybe its even based on when nightfall was released. I always felt ANET tries to reward people to get the new games, and especially after release. Maybe they think since its been out there so long, it needs to be nerfed a bit (maybe this is part of the original design, and every month is lessens its impact), since they would know people would keep going back for more. I imagine it could add some negative pressure to the economy, with 5-10 characters and so many treasure spots, thats alot of extra money game wide for doing so little other than being persistant.--riceball User Riceball Sig.JPG 02:37, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Ah... that is a different thing, the mystery here. Wich are the chances of dropping a gold? Is there a 'quality' seed in chests and NPCs that determines the chances of getting 'good' or 'bad' drops? If it worked like that, it would be logical. Use the chest and the 'quality seed' of that particular Treasure decreases. Enter HM and the 'quality seed' of chests and monsters is greater. That would be a logical way. But we have no clue, have we? MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 12:15, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
HM most likely have no effect. I verified it by opening one in HM and another in NM (two treasure in one region, repeated in another region). -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 15:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
XD I know, but I said 'chests and monsters' not treasures. I meant that the same system is used to increase the 'quality' of the same drops between NM and HM could be used in Trasures to decrease the quality each time they are used. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 17:24, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

Mutliple openings?

Can you open 1 chest multiple times with different characters?

Like Char A opens Chest, would Char B be able to open the chest?84.92.16.13 16:51, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Yes, each character can open the chest without affecting drops on the rest of the account.--Pyron Sy 16:53, 12 April 2008 (UTC)

Research

Is this is one of the few remaining mysteries of game mechanics, should we do a proper research effort with a drop table and stantistics? If so, is there any facts that we already agree on? Backsword 06:05, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Read the "Diminishing returns" section above. HanokOdbrook has made quite detailed observations. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 06:59, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
I have. That's part of what made me interested in getting more data; as this is quite limited for one players, with the no returns if open early and so on. Backsword 07:07, 27 May 2008 (UTC)

Opened the treasure in Jahai Bluffs with 4 different chars. Got a bit over 1k gold and a gold weapon each time. Not having tried it for about 5 months. --Tommy Mag 23:54, 26 June 2008 (UTC)

Sigh. After not opening for over 5 months with any char, I'm still getting all purple items and very little gold, about 650g from Desolation, and only 250g for Kourna. And that's with a secondary char. I don't even feel like trying to open them with other chars. Waste of time. -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 09:39, 5 February 2009 (UTC)

No enemies spawned

I opened a "Do not touch" treasure, and no enemy spawned. I've done the treasure run for a while now and this is the first time it happened to me. Is that something new? Oh and I got a gold and a little over 1k, but no djinn's. --BlackBox 03:12, 8 September 2008 (UTC) --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:64.229.60.130 (talk).

Rare stroke of luck? — Eloc 02:51, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Sometimes happens. For me, it has been 0..5 enemies so far. Most of the time 3 or 4. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 16:16, 9 September 2008 (UTC)
Just happened to me. Although, when moving into range, I saw 4 Ruby Djinns in front of the treasure, then they disappeared. Was expecting them to reappear when opening the treasure, but they stayed gone --Sirakou 00:00, 30 April 2010 (UTC)

Bug?

I know this says that the minimum gold on Istan is 100g, but recently when I went on a treasure run with my friend, I only received 22g and no item. Is this a bug? I had recently just used a treasure a few days earlier and my friend used it first and said he got 200g and got a gold weap. Am I the only person who has gotten something like this?Crimmastermind 07:19, 22 September 2008 (UTC)

Hi, we already have such a map. It's linked to from the "List of treasure" section, just click on the map icons to open the maps. Thanks for your offer to help. For editing help, talk a look at Help:Editing. And welcome to the wiki, in case nobody welcomed you yet :) -- ab.er.rant User Ab.er.rant Sig.png 08:33, 16 December 2008 (UTC)
