[edit] Blank User Talk?

[edit] Image Upload
I don't know who to ask about this, so I'll ask you. I'm trying to upload an image, but every time I try it comes up saying the file is corrupted or whatever. I tried redoing the image in other programs, but it still didn't work. Any advice? --Lustre Of Havoc 05:47, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- Hmm, maybe try uploading another image as a test image to see if your other things work. If not, try making a new copy of that image by just cropping out the image from paint program or something like that and putting it into a new file. — ク Eloc 貢 15:13, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- I did, and the second picture was too big. I found that saving the picture in Paint works, but the size is too large. It's confusing because I see a lot of pics larger than this one. --Lustre Of Havoc 19:50, 6 May 2008 (UTC)
- What format is the image you are trying to upload? Also, there's no specific limit to how big the files can be (I think). It just recommends that it not be higher than a certain size. — ク Eloc 貢 00:27, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- I believe the two I tried were .psp and .bmp, which is Paint Shop Pro and Paint. --Lustre Of Havoc 01:27, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm pretty sure neither of those are valid file extensions. For the Paint Shop Pro, there should be an option to export it as a .jpg. As for the .bmp, it might be acceptable, but the only problem with them are they have huge file sizes, hence why it probably wouldn't take it. In Paint, click save as and save it as a .jpg file and it should be fine. Other extension which are accepted by the server here would be .gif and .png incase you wanna use those formats. — ク Eloc 貢 01:35, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
- Ah, okay. Thanks a lot, Eloc. I hope it works. --Lustre Of Havoc 01:53, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] IP 64.178.154.131
Is there any particular reason you decided yet again to claim ownership of an IP address? I thought it had already been decided that no one can claim ownership of an IP. While you may not be redirecting it as you did last time, if for any reason your IP address changed and a vandal got hold of it you could end up getting blocked since you have posted that it belongs to you (you have taken full responsibility for anything that IP address does). I have again tagged it for deletion U2 for this reason. --Kakarot

- I think it's pretty safe to say looking at how far back the contributions date that it's not going to change anytime soon. Also, my town where I live has a really small GuildWars community. Like at best, 5 people. It's mostly WoW here. — ク Eloc 貢 16:01, 7 May 2008 (UTC)

- No, i'm glad you support it. :) I'll upload all those trophy icons in 64x64px format with proper naming (according to their article's name), add a specific icon category to them and a redirection. —Zerpha

[edit] gww leader
my guild leader wants to know who's the leader of gww? maybe the founder or the highest staff idk..--Ridz16 20:33, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- ArenaNet are technically the highest rank, as they have control of the servers and aren't regulated directly by the community -- the rest of us (users, sysops and bureaucrats) are all decided within the community. However, ArenaNet don't really play a part in administrative issues or wiki-side stuff (like policy, user issues or content), so that's left to us normals. They also choose to follow the policies we've created, to an extent. Guild Wars Wiki:Adminship explains. --
Brains12 \ Talk 21:01, 8 May 2008 (UTC)
- I am. lol, jk. I'd say the closest things to leaders here would be the Sysops and the Bureaucrats. A list of them can be found here. — ク Eloc 貢 02:18, 9 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Image:User Eloc Raph.jpg
This image contains Microsft content (the Windows Aero interface); MS content cannot be uploaded under the GFDL legally. I've tagged the image as a copyio and it will be deleted. Please do not upload MS content; this isn't the fist time you've been on the wrong side of a Microsoft copyvio - don't do it again please. --

- Are you serious? Maybe we should also delete all the screenshots taken of webpages because they contain part of the Firefox/IE/Opera/Safari/whatever interface. Calor
15:21, 10 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yep, I’m serious. To start with, Firefox is licensed under the GPL, which is compatible with the GFDL - so that's fine on the wiki. Opera is Proprietary software, so I doubt that its screenshots could be licensed under the GFDL. IE - that's MS, so no. Basically, any free software that it compatible with the GFDL can be uploaded here. Same with Safari is LGPL, so that should be OK. So – it depends on what is in the image if it can be uploaded here. See GWW:COPY. Thanks, --

- Yeah, but better safe than sorry. --

20:24, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- I think we need some sort of policy on this as it is kind of hard to show bugs for the wiki if you are not allowed to show a screenshot. — ク Eloc 貢 20:25, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- what's the prob with that? Image:User Y0 ich halt it not work..jpg is a screen, too. - Y0_ich_halt
20:59, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah, we should delete that image aswell. You can show screenshots, just as long as they only include GFDL content. Now stop getting at me for this - go to the Anet legal department. --

(Reset indent) No, don't assume 'No one complain = no problem'. It's always been a problem, as non-GFDL content has never neen allowed on this wiki. --
Indochine talk 21:08, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) If you want the copyright rules changed, do what Indochine says and ask ArenaNet. Simply lambasting someone for following copyright laws won't change anything. Oh, and Mini Me, last time I checked, that's a flawed argument. --
Brains12 21:09, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
- So like, if we want to report SOMETHING, and we use IE or we need a windows thing open to REPORT it, it gets impossible to report because we're breaking the law/rules, right? Ups.
- So who exactly do we contact about those rules again? -- Mini Me

- (edit conflict) see Image talk:User Kurd modtutorial 1.png and User talk:Shadowphoenix/Copyright Proposal 1 for two examples where I tried to explain (or linked to explanations) the copyright situation.. poke | talk 21:25, 11 May 2008 (UTC)
