Guild Wars 2 Suggestions

These Affiliations and Creature types from Guild Wars 1 has been suggested as playable races for Guild Wars 2.

Elite races (Discussion)

Having certain "elite races" unlockable from either beating the game, achieving a title or becoming a certain level.

Why this is a good idea
  • would make all those people who are whining about cosmetics happy
  • Another way to show off all that work.
Why it may not work
  • Already to much cosmetic stuff planned
  • Elitists would even have their own races? No thx k?
  • NEW RACES NOT OLD ONES PLEASE.

Tengu (Discussion)

Tengu are the best. It would be very cool to be able to play them in Guild Wars 2.

Why this is a good idea
  • They're a bird race, that's pretty common.
  • The race has some back story from GW1 and they've shown that they can be cooperative with Humans.
  • seeing as cantha is supposed to be more isolationist then somthing must have to happen with the tengu, suppose they became a more important race in their own right, say like the charr. this could alos relate to the naga too perhaps?
  • Would make sense.
  • They might be able to fly in GW2
Why it may not work out
  • Many clans with varied looks, and the same for the sexes. -- Errr...huh?

Undead (Discussion)

The undead(Orr) should be made into a playable race. Since the game should explain more of how the Orr became the savage undead and why they want their revenge.

Why this is a good idea
  • Go in depth of another lore of the Guild Wars story.
  • People like to play the other side too.
Why it may not work out
  • Orrians are slaves of the undead dragon.
  • Most undead in GW1 with the exception of the Lich and a few others were depicted as brainless servants of a minion master of some kind, not individuals with thought processes.
  • Undead = mindless enemies
  • too much like WoW

Demons (Discussion)

Demons are a cool looking race and taken from gw1... demons could be like best at magic or best at healing or best at even killing! like say a demon, necro would be an excellent build!!

Why this is a good idea
  • Being a bad guy!(if they are loyal to their demonking, otherwise they are betrayers and are good guys)
  • if you're trying to think of margomites well then you're... a genius as it is completely unknown what exactly happens to this race after Nightfall and it would be pretty cool to know how they adjusted to the change after 250 years
Why it may not work out
  • Noooo no Margonites! At least if you do it, then make it nice demons. Being an Aatxe, now that would be lovely.
  • Bad guy idea is very much fun, but doubt it will be implemented since it means twice the work.
  • We already have necromancers
  • Demons = enemies

Margonites (Discussion)

Why this is a good idea
  • Kind of similar to the Daemons suggestion but specifically the Margonite race from Nightfall.
  • There'd be alot of story available for Margonites as a race, considering the quests "The Apostate" and "Know Thine Enemy" we've seen that not all of them are evil which could make an interesting civil war plot. "Good" Margonites such as the Apostate would also have alot of story surrounding them trying to earn redemption since they are associated with the attempted destruction of Tyria. There are also still many "bad" Margonites in existence (such as Mallyx the Unyielding) who are after revenge for the destruction of Abaddon and acension of Kormir, maybe trying to restore their old way of existence which could incorporate PvP quests or instances with other players. This would give players the option of having their character be good or evil.
  • The majority of the playable races annouced so far in GW2 are all "good" races with the exception of the Charr (and after the events of Eye of the North its questionable how "evil" they are) and it'd be interesting to include more races that were enemies in the orginal GW rather than allies.
  • All the races in GW2 are associated with the Tyrian continent (with the exception of humans who we can already play as in GW1, and maybe the Centaurs but it hasn't been revealed which faction will be playable). The contemporary Margonites are asscoiated more with Elona which would create more of a balance.
  • Would provide a legitimate reason to include the Realm of Torment.
  • It'd be interesting to see Abaddon from a benevolent point of view and the sunspears as the antagonists.
  • This idea would be good if they were to add in new races in each expansion the Margonite could be a race added with Elona as there is no non-human friendly race in Elona apart from the centures which is only one and adding in the Margonites would mix it up a bit and make it more interseting with what happened to them after Abaddon.
Why it may not work out
  • Playing as a "villain might" not be the direction ArenaNet want to take GW2.
  • Quests dialogue in Nightfall reveals that the Margonites are sterile, and implies that the Margonite transformation ritual is somehow connected to Abaddon.
  • Margonites = enemies
  • margonite dont really belong in tyria...their from another crazy demon world...

playable race Aatxe (Discussion)

-- i think aatxe would be a race. becouse the aatxe dont have to be bad or good, like humuns the aatxe group we saw in in the Underworld could have been told by the gods to guard the underwold and thats why some of axxtxe eg Vengeful Aatxe are invulnerable so i think they could be good race and not all evil and should be a playable race. i think this race advantages could be permanent natural 3 pip health regeneration, very high health and have the most powerful attacks bonus than any over race. And there weakness might be slower energy regeneration and lower Total energy

Why this is a good idea

  • they look cool and guild wars has not told us what is there part in this world

Why it may not work out

  • Might as well play a charr decked out in black armor
  • Aatxe as a playable race? Seriously: grow up already.

Nagas (Discussion)

Why this is a good idea
  • The Nagas used to be a race of artisans until the Jade Wind wiped most of them out. They blame the humans for what happened to them, so that could be their way to get into the story.
  • All nonhuman races were pushed out of Cantha, so the Nagas could have fled to Prophecies Tyria.
Why it may not work out
  • Ugly races may not fit in with GW2.

(realy? dont have them because they are ugly?)

  • Nah, don't have them because it's, A: stupid and B: don't know any friendly nagas

Mursaat (Discussion)

The Mursaat could be re-introduced in Guild Wars2. Alternately, the players could be 'rebel' mursaat that aren't into the whole evil thing.

Perhaps basing off of the Bonus Mission Pack (Saul D'Alessio) coul be explained more and tie into GW2 with a certain twist... not much was ever said about him after the Mursaat took him.

Why this is a good idea
  •   Have Spectral Agony which could start out weak at low levels and slowly get stronger as the Mursaat levels up.
  •   They are a unique race that would push Guild Wars even farther away from other MMOs.
  •   The Mursaat haven't been entirely wiped out and could be one of the more 'evil' races in Guild Wars 2. Not everyone wants to be a good guy.
  •   They are just simply awesome looking charactes to be able to use.
  •   Most unforgettable enemy race in GW1 (IMO) would be nice to now be able to play as one of them.
Why it may not work out
  • Spectral Agony could be too strong a skill, though this could be balanced by making the majority of monsters infused, or removing the skill entirely.
  • Mursaat might be one of the main antagonists for GW2.
  • Nearly extinct in GW1, may not have had time to build up their numbers.
  • The mursaat's ability to float may cause terrain issues
  • Their inability to talk may prove difficulty in cut scenes

i think it is a great idea Mursaat are my favourite race in guildwars (sam mckie)

  • Yeah sure, let's have more enemies as playable races

Ancient Seers (Discussion)

Having the Ancient Seers as a playable charecter,

Why this is a good idea
  • Could have superity such as good spell caster with heavy armor.
Why it may not work out
  • May already have other roles.
  • May not be as balanced or custimizable.
  • The only one encountered in the game claims to be the only one left of it's kind, making it rather difficult to turn into a large race.
  • The seer race where defeated in a war with the mursaat

Centaurs (Discussion)

The Centaur Race allied with the Sylvari but still has a resentment towards humans.

Why this is a good idea
  • It provides another kewl and new race especially one that would make the storyline oh so more interesting. I and sure other players dream they could play Centaur they just so amazing. Please put them in the game
  • Centaurs already have a lot of Guild Wars 1 lore associated with them.
  • Other games have Centaur as a playable race.
  • They move in an awesome way...i could watch Zhed run for HOURS... :P
  • They could provide a newer expansion race if the regular gw2 only focuses on kryta and eotn for instance then there should be elona and cantha add ons or editions which could perhaps includ the centaurs and tengu respectivly.

Why it may not work out
  • It might add even more time and effort by the developing team and if this was a race there may be a lot then.

...or as some better ideas: the Centaur race as a Wandering Tribal Species all over Tyria, just as they have been in GW1. They aren't really friends with any race.

Why this is a good idea
  • It provides another unique and varied Race, that doesn't have only Two arms and Two legs(they have four!).
  • Centaurs already have a lot of Guild Wars 1 lore associated with them, and they aren't just another 'New' 'never before seen' race, like the other three that were created specifically for GW2, though except for 'Eye of the North' there is no lore associated with those three races(Norn, Asura, Silvari), well actually, the Silvari aren't even in 'Eye of the North', Anet had to dig themselves into an even deeper story pit to try to tell us where they came from.
  • There is actually very few games where you get to play as a Centaur, as a playable race, or otherwise. (Proxy-controlling your centaur hero after you have died in missions in GW1 does not count)
  • The way the move is very kool, and its unique and totally different from the other races
Why it may not work out
  • It would add Considerably to the development time because Anet would be unable to re-use any Model or Animation with the Centaurs, whereas with the Humans, Silvari, Norn, etc. they all share a similar appearance and animations can be made for them in mass, and more easily.
  • Finding a mount for a creature incredably simmilar to a beast designed to be ridden would be interesting...if GW2 has mounts that is.

Forgotten (Discussion)

Forgotten should be a playable race. They would likely function very well as the "mystic" characters, such as dervish, oweing to them being older and having access to more knowledge, as well as a connection to the prophet of the five (now six) gods.

Why this is a good idea
  • Forgotten are simply an unusual and original race, seeing as they are reptilian, a quality that is almost never found in sentient beings in basically every game.
  • Forgotten are coolThey would be relatively easy to put into the plotline, due to them following Glint, who's prophecy fueled the entire story of the original Guild Wars.
  • There is already a lot of lore associated with them making them easy to fit into the story line, servants of the gods who tried to contain Abbadon, and Mallyx the Unyielding after him.
Why it may not work out
  • There may already be plans for Forgotten in other roles.
  • The differences between them and other races may be somewhat difficult to work through, as they share few similarities with the basic races used to gauge others.
  • In Nightfall, they are saved from the edge of extinction. 250 years may not be enough time to replenish their numbers.
  • Making separate animations and armor models for the Forgotten would be more resource-intensive than it would be for humanoid races because they don't have the same general body shape as the other races.

Skree (harpies) (Discussion)

Have to add the harpies to this list, considering their extremely usable history (for a storyline, could use as the quest for the harpies redemption in the eyes of Dwayna) and the Z axis, which could allow temporary flight for these creatures. through Nightfall it was hinted that these are a brutal, tribal, sentient race thats fighting against the heket. they could easily be tied into Palawa Joko's take over and be seeking revenge for some missdeed.

Why is this a good idea
  • They can fly, adding a unique perspective to the game
  • have a good possible storyline, and a age-old war against the heket
  • They fly, and we all know it's everyone's dream to fly.
why it may not work out
  • the game may not be built to support characters that can stay airbourne for a period of time
  • the story behind the skree becoming slightly less agressive may be difficult to work out
  • skree = enemies

Dwarves(Discussion)

First, dwarves are awesome and hearty, with a strong association with good fighting skills and weapons crafting. Third, as far as I know, the Stone Summit Dwarves still exist in-game, and it would be easy enough to explain that dwarves in the game are Stone Summit defecters. Third, the stone summit warriors in GW are probably the best looking warriors in game.

Why is this a good idea
  • Brings a classic race to the table, giving players more options.
  • Maybe the narrator of the Movement of the World is wrong. Maybe the Stone Summit fled to the north rather than being wiped out. Maybe the Deldrimor have hidden underground settlements filled with untransformed dwarves (or fertile stone dwarves). There could be a lost colony of untransformed dwarves on another continent.

Why it may not work out
  • Unoriginal
  • The Deldrimor dwarves were turned into stone guardians at the end of EotN.
  • According to the narrator of the Movement of the World establishes, Tyria has few darves period, and they've all been transformed into stone.

Destroyers (Discussion)

Why is this a good idea
why it may not work out
  • It's been established that, with the exception of the Great Destoryer, Destroyers have limited intelligence.
  • The Destroyers were Destroyed. (in EotN)

Asura (Discussion)

Why this is a good idea
  • The Asura, despite criticizing the human race for being dim-witted, would be a lovely addition into GW2. The only problem they have is physical power, which can come into play with golems and/or mechanical suits.
Why this is a bad idea

Other Possible Races (Discussion)

From GW1: (Just listing them off, even minor ones) Ghosts, Hominid Destroyers, Hominid Plants, Heckett, Jotun, Nightmares, Ettins, Giants, Grawl, Imps, Kappa, Yeti, Trolls, Wardens, Elementals, Krait

Why is this a good idea
  • It it would be nice to see some of them.
  • Instead of having all these as seperate races, y not use the Shapeshifter Profession i suggested...then u could be human, norn, charr or w/e..and shift into these shapes (for particular benefits they bring, such as speed, power, elemental attributing etc) instead of having millions of races to program and teach to dance...
why it may not work out
  • Well obviously you can't have all of these in the game- there are just too many. And, some of them, like the huge Giants, may not be very viable as playable races. Some are also too minor (although expanding on a small race from GW1 might be interesting.)
  • So many races may cause tonic prices to drastically flucuate month to month and race to race (IE: one tonic may be worth nothing to one race because it may be like them)
  • Well obviously these are all E-N-E-M-I-E-S so it doesn't equal a playable race. People seriously need a brain and this goes for this whole chain of "collective suggestions"
