I bought the GotY Edition on Steam, how do I log in?

I'm new to Guild Wars and I have no idea how to start playing and when I try to create an account, it says that the CD-Key has already been used... which leads me to think that Steam already made me an account by default. Is there something I'm missing? --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 70.118.245.235 (talk).

See Steam's answer, otherwise contact support. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 18:46, 4 May 2010 (UTC)

Audio Problems

I've lost the sound in guild wars it works every where else but not when I log in to guild wars HELP???

Character Name

Hello, I just downloaded the free trial of Guild Wars. but It will not let me on.. it keeps saying I need character name. I do not have one yet.. I tried bypassing it but still says something is wrong.. what do I do?

I think it needs to be left blank until a character name is created upon login. --User Wandering Traveler Sig2.png Wandering Traveler 23:39, 15 May 2010 (UTC)

account ban

Why is my account banned? I have never purchased anything from any player for real money? Is this because I purchased the war in kryta costumes? I also got some fishy email about forgetting my account info. I never have forgotten it so I don't know what thats about. I am angry I have played this game for years and I feel a little betrayed. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 99.190.66.51 (talk).

account question

hello, I and my girl friend both were GW players. We have seperate NC / game account.

I want to ask if I play her account to fight AB: Does the system detected as stealing account behavior? (Because I am TW player and she is HK player thus it will have different IP login record in your system) ; if I logout then she login, will this also lead to her account be banned?

Looking forward to your replies --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 125.230.90.195 (talk).

I don't know about Anet, but many companies wont do anything about slightly different IP's (since so many have dynamic ones). But, widely different IP addresses could possibly trigger something, for example Steam has/does, and also Myspace and Facebook did at one point, possible still do, flag an account as compromised if very different IP's access the same account too often. Tylenol Jones 10:05, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
While sharing counts is more or less against the rules, theres realy no way to detect it, so yeh, while you still have a small chance to get banned, its more or less safe.also, if your gf's account was banned, there would be no way to track it back to your account, also, last thing. for freaking sakes, dont tell her your password. --Neil2250 User Neil2250 sig icon6.png 10:08, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Neil, you're wrong. IP tracing is dead simple. And yes, they do have alarm bells installed for when a drastically different IP logs in. Accounts like that tend to get blocked to prevent more damage and ask the owner to contact support to unblock it. Searching other accounts is as easy as entering that IP into a search query.
So 125.230.90.195, personally I's advise agents sharing accounts just to be safe and save you the trouble of writing e-mails to support. Though you could probably clear up the issue with them it's not worth playing around.
Finally, telling your account password to someone else isn't a good idea, since you might break up with the person eventually, or have an argument, and then someone might do something bad. This goes both ways. Also, if one of you gets a keyloger or something like that, you also risk loosing both accounts. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 11:48, 5 June 2010 (UTC)
Im proven wrong once again.--Neil2250 User Neil2250 sig icon6.png 11:52, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Iam new G.W. player and cant get started

I have read faq, and I have emailed support. I have never got any anwers. after I have given my email address and password.then click on log in,as it says to do if new to G.W , the code227 comes up. I do not know any character names as I have not even been able to create my own character nor have I even played this game yet? Please help asap. sincerly Zippylynn.--24.36.11.181 01:59, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Error code 227 is a generic response that can refer to any part of your login information. Make sure that you're entering everything correctly, that your caps-lock is off (or on, if it was on when you created your account), etc. How did you create your account? -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 11:52, 7 June 2010 (UTC)
If you haven't created a character yet, leave the Character field blank. This will only work while you have no characters, so make sure you remember the name of the character you create for the next times you login. I hope that helps! --Dragon Nataku talk to me 15:32, 7 June 2010 (UTC)

Sounds like they might be trying to scam you. If they also want certain personal information from you so you can "get your prizes" then it's most likely a scam and you should report the users involved.Tylenol Jones 18:17, 8 June 2010 (UTC)
It sounds like someone has not hijacked your account, but has hijacked one of your character names on Guru Auctions. Simply explain to the person pming you that you are not the person who bid on their item, and have them contact me on guru. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 17:05, 9 June 2010 (UTC)

Guild Wars Trilogy to Guild Wars Account

Has anyone had ANY luck with support through Guild Wars, looking to add Guild Wars Trilogy Key to my original Guild Wars account...

Any response would be nice.... --Pan Lire 12:04, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Sorry, what's your question? -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 12:23, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

Trying to get account support is like pulling teeth, I created a second account not knowing I could add the Trilogy to my existing Guild Wars (my stupid fault). Basically I want to move Trilogy to My existing Guild Wars account... and had no luck/response from Arenanet/NCSoft... --Pan Lire 12:37, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

I know it's difficult, but try to have some patience, support is busy with all of the people that can't remember their character names and those banned for 3rd party program use. They can probably help, but their help will be (best case scenario!) to delete your new account and adding the key to your first account, accounts can't technically be merged. Make sure you only send (and update if necessary) one ticket, and if you don't get a response after 3 days, you can try getting in touch with Gaile here on the wiki. -- FreedomBoundUser Freedom Bound Sig.png 13:07, 11 June 2010 (UTC)
I would wait more than 3 days due to the support backlog, maybe 5 days or so. They did say they hired more people to handle the volume, but it doesn't look like it sped it up any. The banning of 3700 accounts and counting, probably isn't helping at the moment. --LaniaUser Lania Elderfire pinkribbon.jpg 18:47, 11 June 2010 (UTC)

OK so now 2 weeks later does anyone have any other bright ideas, no response what-so-ever... great friggin' support... --Pan Lire 15:50, 26 June 2010 (UTC)--Pan Lire 15:50, 26 June 2010 (UTC)

I don't see any place besides this page where you requested help from official staff. As suggested earlier, "[c]ontact the support liaison at Feedback talk:Gaile Gray/Support Issues‎ with your support ticket number." (This page is a place for players to help other players; I've never seen ArenaNet/NCSoft staff respond here.)  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:48, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

I contacted Gaile via email - nothing Did the online + email support through Arenanet/NCSoft - nothing

--Pan Lire 14:39, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Understood. I am sorry that you haven't heard back through those channels. You will get a response if you post on the page indicated above; as near as I can tell, Gaile always follows up when she has a ticket # and a brief outline of the concerns.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 14:55, 10 July 2010 (UTC)

Seperate Account

I tried to set up a separate account for my son ..Got the game card for Factions but I think I set it up on my account in error cause it says its in use. Help!

Is there an easy way to create 2 account please and can I reopen my faction card that appears allocated

Cheers --92.0.31.22 07:11, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Did your account already have Factions? If it did, then you shouldn't have been able to add another key with the save privileges to it. Where did you buy Factions? You can't buy this game used, because it works on serial keys. To create a new account you simply click the "Create an account or add access key" in the login screen, and make a new account with a different e-mail then the old one.
Unfortunately, if you did add a working Factions key to your account, there's really not much that can be done. Sometimes people create 2 separate accounts while trying to add a key to their existing one, and in those cases one account gets banned, and the person involved gets a new key. There's no way to remove a key from ones account so that it can be reused. You might want to try contacting support but I don't think anything will come out of it. It would be faster to buy another copy. Guild Wars games are pretty cheep. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 14:34, 12 June 2010 (UTC)

Account deleted

ok my old account i used to play on says it got deleted but i didnt do any thing wrong with or or i didnt violate me terms i was supposed to follow. so can you guys / women at guild wars help me get back on to that account? The preceding unsigned comment was added by 98.207.151.224 (talk • contribs) at 22:59, 20 June 2010 (UTC).

Account's can't be "deleted". They can be blocked, but not deleted. If you're getting errors, that your login information is incorrect, then you typed something wrong. If you get a message that the account was blocked, then the message will tell you why it was blocked and for how long. If you wish to dispute the block, contact support. Roar! Log in problems

I just bought Guild wars Trilogy and I can't log in, i get the 227 code, and i am MORE than sure that i am typing all my account info right(caps and everything). I bought the game from the NCSoft website with my NCSoft master account, of course. I apply the serial code to my ncsoft account. I download the game. I try to log in to the game using the same login info i use to log in to my ncsoft account. and i get the 227 code. i have tried everything possible. i sent the Support messages already, its been 2 full days and no answer, and im getting EXTREMELY worried, and i feel like that was the worst $45 i ever spent in my life. PLEASEE help.

ive also tried to reset my Guild wars password (from the actual guild wars game window thing, with all the account login info), but im not getting any notifications/emails about a reset password.

Also, if it makes any difference, i tried their free trial way back in oct. 2009..and thats the account i applied the serial code to.

I have read so many articles and FAQs etc about how to solve my problem, and nothing.

I have also read that the support system doesnt reply back right away..if not at all? WTH, that just rages me sooooj sfljas;dl

Your Guild Wars account name and password are not the same as your NCSoft account and password. They would be whatever you used in 2009. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 08:03, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
If you login to your NCsoft Master Account, you should be able to see all your game accounts and their logins on the right side bar. Your account login is probably something like "<your username>@plaync" or "<your username>@ncsoft" if you made a trial account. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 09:28, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
Also, unless they've changed it recently, when you make a trial account and create a character, and that trial runs out, that character does not get deleted. So what I'm assuming happened here when you applied your Trilogy access key to that original trial account it now wants you to remember your trial character's name for the Character Name field in the login screen. Random sidenote: Is it just me or has this stupid "You must remember your character name in order to login" thing been more trouble than it's worth? --Dragon Nataku talk to me 14:57, 22 June 2010 (UTC)

"**If your existing Guild Wars game account is not linked to a NCsoft master account, you will be given the option to LINK & UPGRADE ACCOUNT when attempting to use the access key or make an upgrade purchase. You will need to enter your Guild Wars game account name and password for this. This will integrate your Guild Wars game account into your NCsoft master account. From then on, you will manage your Guild Wars game account from that NCsoft master account. Your account cannot be un-linked.

Creating a new account within your NCsoft master account will automatically append "@ncsoft" to the end of the account name you choose, making your Guild Wars account name "chosenname@ncsoft" (there is no ".com"). You will not be able to change this account name later."

I got that from NCSoft Support. Well, apparently, i integrated my ncsoft account with my guild wars account right? And it obv says there that i can control my guild wars account from my ncsoft account?

ALSO, how in the world am i supposed to remember my character name from way back in 2009??!!? It was a trial account and didn't think it's supposed to mean/matter so much at this point??! I've checked ALL of my emails from way back. I found the email from when i tried the trial out but it DID NOT have any record of my in game character name whatsoever..and obv, i had no friends to contact, etc bc i couldnt even talk in the trial?? Im really sorry if im sounding so annoying..i have a feeling i just blew $45 for a stupid game im never even going to get to play. If only i could get my money back, id be happy, but apparently they don't do refunds.

Random note: Do you guys think there's any way i can just downgrade from Trilogy to just the Guild Wars Prophecies? I'd like at least some of my money back.

HUGE THANKS for the quick replies! The support team on the actual site is bs..and i will be waiting til the 5th business day for their reply. But, what can i do if i still don't get a reply by then?

If you can't remember your character name, contact support and tell them that. They'll assist you. Roar! Poki#3 (talk) 20:39, 22 June 2010 (UTC)
If you check the rest of this page and one or two of the most recent help archive pages you'll notice that about 10,000 people have had this "rawr I can't remember my character name" problem. Support has been flooded with help requests over this character name nonsense, so you'll probably have to wait a bit more before they get a chance to reply back to you. I heard the average wait time right now is about two weeks. :o\ --Dragon Nataku talk to me 14:38, 23 June 2010 (UTC)
This has been a valuable lesson to many, in not giving characters bloody stupid names by rolling their face across the keyboard, IMO. Tylenol Jones 17:29, 23 June 2010 (UTC)

Adding serial

Hello, I just bought the game of the year addition off the website. I never recieved an email telling me precicely what my key was, and i can't access this information on the website. this wouldn't be a problem if i could create an account, because i could click the apply serial code button, but whenever i click 'create account' and enter in my information the page just hangs for awhile and then says this page can't be displayed! if i boot up the game i can't get into any of the account settings stuff because i don't have a game account, and the ingame create game account option requires a key! and i cant get my key without getting a game account. its a vicious circle! help!

I might be wrong, but wouldn't your "serial code" be the access key you need in order to create an account through the ingame option? --Dragon Nataku talk to me 22:29, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Two accounts banned

OK so i did something wrong on one of my accounts and they ban both? Can they do that? I read the user agreements and they only mentioned about transferring items was a bannable offense if it was botting and i wasn't botting and then i wondered if they banned both accounts because it says in the rules or w/e that they will ban accounts to stop people from ever play guildwars? Did they have to terminate that account? Couldn't they have blocked it so i can carry it over to Gw2? So now i lost 5 years of game play cause of nothing? Please Reply back and they wont answer my emails and its been like 4 days so idk whats happened --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 96.231.156.128 (talk).
