Stealth AI updates?[edit]
- → moved from User talk:Gaile Gray
Hi Gaile, I just noticed that the hero AI now uses a lot of Weapon Spells correctly (this used to be totally broken) but as far as I know this wasn't mentioned anywhere on the update list on the website. This also means most of the bug reports about Weapon Spells that were added to the AI issues page are no longer valid, but we'd basically have to recheck every skill again to know which ones are working correctly now. I was wondering if it could be possible to include these kinds of changes in the update list on the website? --Draikin 22:09, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- When we make updates, we include the vast majority in the notes. Occasionally, we include them under a general "fixed a variety of bugs" and the one you are asking about may qualify under that category. For the most part, we provide the level of detail on updates that we're able to provide, so there will be cases where changes are made in a broader category than calling out with specifics. For example, when we fix text bugs, putting each and every "string" of text onto the Update Notes would just not be possible, for we might fix 50 or 100 lines at the same time. -- Gaile 22:37, 17 November 2007 (UTC)
- On some other online games, they indicate ALL changes. It would be more honest to indicate all changes instead of 'minor fixes and improvements'...except in language. Each one plays following some changes. If some of those things are hidden, how can we try to improve or change ? You see more and more people complaining about it and that. Some lines on update notes are so boring to write ? --Christix 11:32, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- The problem isn't that all updates aren't very specific. The problem is that the update notes do not indicate many changes at all. For example we haven't seen a "fixed text issues" or "modified AI" for ages even though these changes happen in many updates. Due to this every update causes unsurenes about what's changed this time without us hearing of it. People stopped complaining ages ago since nothing happened and the complainers never got response. -- (gem / talk) 11:40, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- In case of the Weapon Spell bug fixes it turns out this was part of the October 18th update but the update list simply doesn't mention anything about it. Even a simple "Heroes now use Weapon Spells correctly" would have been enough, but now a lot of people simply don't know the AI was improved at all. These stealth updates makes it difficult to keep track of all the problems with the AI since you never know when something will change. --Draikin 18:04, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- I will ask the designers if the AI was adjusted, at all. There have been many, many posts about "undocumented changes" or "stealth updates" in the fan forums, and I've asked about those from time to time. It's pretty surprising the number of times that no change was made at all and yet a player, or sometimes a number of players, believes there to have been changes. We truly do try to build comprehensive notes in a general sense, but I'm afraid that a line-by-line detailing of, for instance, every text string that was corrected in an update is not reasonable. (Please note that we would then need to translate that into 11 languages, meaning the notes would be delayed for many people.) I will ask those involved in building the notes if there are ways to increase our level of information, by all means. -- Gaile 18:44, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Talking about heroes AI. My Ogden Stonehealer doesn't cast Smiter's Boon on his own, I have to cast it manually everytime. MageMontu 20:10, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Gaile, looking through the 'wiki notes' sections of the updates gives a pretty good overview of things that have changed without documentation. Yes, some of those might have been caused by player mistakes or might be indirect results of other updates, but there is a lot of stuff that should have been documented in the official update notes. We're not asking for detailed info on which dialogue texts etc were fixed, but the more important things should be noted. -- (gem / talk) 21:59, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Oh and I need to add that it's been getting better lately, the bigger problems seem to have been sorted out. AI, text and a couple really small skill changes are the only things that I remember that haven't always been documented within the past month or two. -- (gem / talk) 22:02, 18 November 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks Gaile, I can assure you that this change is definitely real. Before the update heroes simply didn't use Weapon Spells correctly at all (you can read the details here: User_talk:Gaile_Gray/Guild_Wars_AI_issues#Hero_.26_Henchmen_skill_usage_Weapon_Spells) and now they use them almost perfectly. The only bug I've found so far is that heroes equipped with a martial weapons will cast and maintain Weapon of Warding on themselves even when they are full health but that's about it. It would be great to see more of these AI updates in the future since they also have a positive impact on build diversity in Hero Battles. --Draikin 22:06, 18 November 2007 (UTC)

Fail[edit]
Anet never got "Hench Bot AI" right, but I learned to live with it. However after their last update and changes to the way spells are used (or whatever) the melee hench are just plain suicidal. I never took Devona much because of this but now every melee character has decided to go postal on anything that moves and is coloured red, regardless of range. Have Anet not realised some of us like to try to sneak past multiple mobs rather than waste forever fighting, dying, rezzing, repeat? I could understand if it hit their aggro bubble, but we're talking plenty of room, and rather than follow me, Gehraz decides "Stuff this, I wanna slice something..." I'm well kissed off. Please kick the person responsible for the laughably unfunny AI in the nuts. Thanks. /rantoff – josəph 12:49, 16 August 2008 (UTC)
- Looks like a good kick in the nuts really works --> Game updates/20080821. Now, about the bugs introduced in this update... – josəph 18:18, 22 August 2008 (UTC)
Shout Movement AI[edit]
I used Fall Back while Devona's Charge was down. It was only down for a few seconds but as soon as it recharged Devona reused Charge while Fall Back still had lots of time left in it. So...can we get this fixed? (Same problem with Incoming by the way) When a shout that affects movement is already triggered for every body, let's not have the henchmen reuse their shout please. Thank you. Than 03:10, 10 July 2009 (UTC)
Hero Kiting (and failing) or doing absolutly nothing[edit]
I've notice that heroes like to try and kite spell casters and will continue trying to until they die instead of healing themselves or teammates (noticed this with my monk heroes). Could something be done so that heroes won't kite spell casters (which is pointless), and so that monks will actually heal instead of letting people die? I keep my hero controls open and i will watch my Dunkoro just let himself die. He isn't low on energy (20+ energy all his heals are 5 energy), skills aren't recharging, or anything. He will just be running around or worse just standing there doing nothing (I mean at least sometimes he tries to kite spell casters even though that doesn't work). What is worse is I'll have 2 monk heroes with me and they seem to like to doing these things at the same time which equals total party wipe. Sigil Baram talk 19:51, 30 January 2010 (UTC)
