Finding my actual birth date...[edit]

The best I could do in finding the actual birth date was to log onto ncsoft.com and look at my account creation date. This ONLY shows me the birth date for my first character, since I created it the same day. My other characters... well, /age only shows how many months, which is a shame, and not very useful, and probably takes more code than just showing character creation date/time. --Robokev 17:12, 22 January 2012 (UTC)

I agree, this is the one part that /age makes me angry that isnt there. Dervish-tango-icon-20.pngDevi 19:17, 22 January 2012 (UTC)
Age old discussion, sorry the pun, if you have the time to do this... Start on any month with 31 days and do /age every day you play. The day it increases is the birthday. I noticed this by accident on one of my characters. Some people may not have the fortitude to log in every day and type /age on each and every character in question. I would like to see the format change or have another emote /dob which is surely in the database.--Wendy Black 19:36, 4 March 2012 (UTC)

7th Year[edit]

In just a little over a month, I'll have a character turn 7 years old. Will it be another EL tonic? OutlawJoe 01:12, 1 April 2012 (UTC)

No one knows until the official announcement goes up on the GW website. 86.128.166.97 14:51, 2 April 2012 (UTC)
EL Summoning Stones. Probably since by now they realized there are so many tonic stacks ingame they might aswell have been EL. Whats more, the mechanic that would prevent the EL Stones from becoming imba is already in place. 1 summon per party with a cool down. They already burned up all the good avatars on 6th year tonics so what would they do next? gw2 tonics? Justice 09:54, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
they burned up the good avatars? You want an extra Norgu in your party? They could have used the henchmen or various interesting NPCs we don't see often (e.g. Shing Jea Sherman, Lt Langmar, Jenn Valefield, ...). – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:22, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
ArenaNet could make a second series of everlasting tonics, such as the different miniatures for different years. Could possibly include Prince Rurik, Captain Langmar, Fleshreaver, Doylak etc... If those were used, I'd see Fleshreaver as a unique, Doylak as a rare, Langmar and Rurik and uncommon, but these are suggestions. OutlawJoe 03:32, 17 April 2012 (UTC)
I always wanted miniature avatars of the gods, an EL tonic of the gods would be neat as well... but neither will likely ever happen. If anything, we'll get more minis, EL tonics, or stones that summon random enemies no one gives a crap about like normal.
all i was saying is that when u use kuunavang and many other high profile npcs all in the first batch you are setting the bar pretty high for the next round. God avatars would be amazing but after 6 years they havnt touched them yet. Maybe, just maybe they will now. Justice 18:50, 19 April 2012 (UTC)
Not sure if this was intended by ArenaNet, but I got a Miniature Elf from my 7th year present.
Cop out possibility: 7th year present might contain all previous present contents. That would make it worth a lot more... or a lot less.
Trying to outrule possibilites: are you certain it was a 7th year birthday present and not just a 2nd year birthday present, which one of your characters happened to get on this day? Just sounds awefully messed up to me, that you would get previous miniatures from a 7th birthday present Gaudy Gourd God 13:27, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Not unless my 7-year old character was given a 2nd year present for her 7th birthday. All the presents I've received, I've opened so it wasn't an old one. The miniature wasn't an old one: I don't keep an elf on that character, and the elf appeared in the backpack. /age on character reports "...over the past 84 months". Update: other players are reporting old miniatures from the 7th year present on Guru. Sorry I can't give solid evidence as all I have is a "2nd year" miniature. 109.151.144.190 14:37, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
It's no problem. The whole thing will get resolved sooner or later, and for now I wouldn't think it'd hurt to hear reports from people who have opened 7th year presents. So personally, I'd stick with "assume good faith" or however that code goes. Gaudy Gourd God 14:44, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
It looks like the presents contain the non-white miniatures of all previous series. At the german wiki we documented only 7 so far, but those cover 1st to 5th birthday already as well as purple to green. --User ARTy sig.png 15:40, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
No whites? Sounds perfect. They're almost only used for binning anyways. Thanks heaps for the info! Gaudy Gourd God 15:45, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
I gathered input from here, guru, wartower (german site) and added it to what we had already. Also, now as a table, yay. Still no whites, but 12 of the 30 minis that would fit the assumption. What is remarkable is that it's 1 green, 2 gold and 9 purple up to now, so it looks like diffenrent chances still apply. --User ARTy sig.png 16:59, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
If they dont have non-birthday mini included in this then that is extremely lame. I could buy and open a present from a year i want for a much better chance at the mini i wanted. Hell at this point in guild wars i could just buy the mini i wanted since the newest bday mini is already 2 years old. 5th year bday gifts > 7th years. Justice 17:31, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
I'd say birthday presents are sort of meant as rewards to persistent/loyal players. But this year they're really nothing... would have been better if 7 year old characters got 1 birthday present for each previous year instead. Guess it's like they say on guru, GW1 is taking it's last breath. Gaudy Gourd God 17:38, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
John Stumme:"There are some minis that are not repeats from the presents of previous years - they're just rare. Of course, with my luck being what it is, I pulled a Miniature Elf. XP"- From Guru, so im assuming 7th year new minis are gonna be priced somewhere in the upper xxx ecto, and the majority of people are gonna get ones priced under 10k. Great idea anet! The Only Warrior 17:49, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Yeh, but still: if this means more of the über rare minis gets into GW, like Kanaxai, Vizu, Panda, Polar Bear, then that's not that bad... yet, I agree with the others on guru: not a nice way to "reward" the veterans (no I'm not a veteran) Gaudy Gourd God 17:53, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Only Minis from the first 5 years of presents are avalible, no non-birthday minis are avalible. The Only Warrior 17:58, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
The Only Warrior, I don't see how those two statements can be true at the same time. -- FreedomBound 18:08, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Then you're either rly stupid or don't understand how conversations are held in the English language. he responded to my post along with others by assuming the rare-er minis would include super rare minis from earlier years, i corrected him by saying only the minipets from the first 5 years birthdays are going to be recycled. re-read what john stumme posted on guru. kthxbai The Only Warrior 19:54, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
Let's see... John Stumme said: "There are some minis that are not repeats from the presents of previous years." You said: "Only Minis from the first 5 years of presents are avalible, no non-birthday minis avalible". John's statement seems to mean that there are minis in the 7th year presents that were not previously available *as birthday presents* your statement says the opposite. -- FreedomBound 20:16, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
lOOl Minituare & gold sellers are raging, 7th yr present is any mini, Kanaxai prices falling, lawsuits threaten, the end is near!!! giggle ;) Prices for High Priest Zhang, Rift Warden, Confessor Dorian, Confessor Isaiah, Ghostly Hero, Polar Bear, Greased Lightning skyrocket. Rudhraighe 21:18, 25 April 2012 (UTC)
There are 'baby' Hounds of Balthazar in the Menagerie that are mini sized (like the baby moas around the Black Moas.) Could be a possibility of a mini if the model is already in-game. 72.197.206.165 00:57, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

It's the same for every pet in the menagerie. All pets have a miniature version (the moa chick is the only "unique" model). I wouldn't expect a mini hound simply because of this. 122.111.173.139 03:07, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

So am I the only one holding out hope for ALL minis as 7th birthday gifts? It'd piss power-sellers off but a 'big' (relative to current numbers) influx of the insanely rare minis and a resulting price drop would be perfect for mini collectors like me. 86.159.24.56 08:54, 26 April 2012 (UTC)
Ehm, it's extremely unlikely that we will see any kind of "big" influx. I wouldn't hope for a droprate better then 1:10 000 or even 1:25 000 on the most rare miniatures like Kanaxai / Panda / IG. Similar to the droprates of items such as Polar Bears or EL Beetlejuice tonics. 84.48.54.253 10:01, 26 April 2012 (UTC)

"There are some minis that are not repeats from the presents of previous years" I'm thinking this means new minis entirely.... not just miniatures that you couldn t get from presents. 76.16.108.117 07:41, 28 April 2012 (UTC)

I wish some kinda of hint as to what was included as possible had been given by anet. Even if not an exact list but just an amount as to how many of the "rare but not from a previous yearly series" were possible. even just a number would help figure out the possibilities 72.71.226.115 18:00, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
I agree, and it would also be nice to know whether the "new" minis were previously available through other means, or are entirely new. 78.92.0.206 23:02, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
Nothing was added to the dat so none of them would be "new." MadMaxx 04:10, 30 April 2012 (UTC)
So you didn't have to download any updates for the "Guild Wars 7th Anniversary Celebration?" like everyone else did? 76.16.108.117 03:01, 1 May 2012 (UTC)
I was referring to the fact that the anniversary update only included the hound model and text--no new items/icons. MadMaxx 05:37, 2 May 2012 (UTC)
People can look for new files inside the gw.dat file, if nothing new is added there nothing new has been added to the game. And downloading a few files just means they changed some things such as adding Hound of Balthazar, the 9 rings game and the fountain in Shing Jea monestary. 84.48.54.253 14:09, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
I'm a vet but I don't own any 7 years and my account is above 6 years ( I had to buy my own EL tonics). My oldest, Yumiko Ishida, will be year 3 by Dragon Festival or Winterday in July. By then, I'll be in GW 2. Sucks for us old timers that never kept anyone for long. Also on a side my friend deleted my originals when I quit for a time and he wanted to play factions but as a consolation, I probably wouldn't have kept them either. Unconfirmed: Oni from 7th present[edit]

http://www.guildwarsguru.com/forum/showpost.php?p=5684976&postcount=278 84.48.54.253 14:09, 3 May 2012 (UTC)

Whatever you wanted to show doesn't work anymore, so must've been fake. --Lustre Of Havoc 18:17, 3 May 2012 (UTC)
Looks to me more like those who want to keep these miniatures as rare as they always were are doing what they can to keep miniatures like Vizu and Onis dropping from 7th year presents from being know. They won't be able to do that for too long, anyways. MithUser MithranArkanere Star.pngTalk 13:29, 8 May 2012 (UTC)

Revert War[edit]

Pfff getting tired of all this... can't the dev state once for all if there's any rare mini in 7th birthday present or not?! Even if I don't know what I would do with a few more ectos, I would still prefer to sell them than having 100% chances to get an old mini. DeoX 22:37, 11 May 2012 (UTC)

Asian minis confirmed[edit]

One here http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/5001/gw004pz.jpg and another one here http://i.imgur.com/69ZT7.jpg Maybe I'll get one too, if I make a bunch of new characters every year, and wait about 70 years 86.31.33.19 13:17, 12 May 2012 (UTC)

Only ones confirmed at the moment are Oni and Naga Raincaller. Stop adding ones that have not been confirmed such as Shiroken, Zhed, and Vizu. At the moment those are only rumors until proof has been posted.--Merenda 21:55, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I haven't edited this article at all, so I'm not defending my actions per say, but I have witnessed one of my RL friends get a shiroken from a 7th year gift. Unforunately, at the time we didn't think it necessary to screenshot (because presents have a history of being fully cataloged on the wiki/guru within a week), but believe me or not, it did happen :) Power WMElementalist-tango-icon-200.png 23:56, 14 May 2012 (UTC)

I know it isn't you and I understand there have been people claiming they have got them but without proof of the minis being received the wiki should not be updated to say so. Until the proof is posted hold off on adding the other minis to the page. --Merenda 01:21, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

Cleaning the Wiki[edit]

I've seen a few styles of displaying the acquisition info for birthday presents. Can we decide on one and use it on all presents?

1. Randomly awarded from a xth year Birthday Present.
2. *Core
  • Randomly awarded from a Birthday Present which is received when a character reaches x and x years old.
3. *Core
  • Randomly awarded from a Birthday Present which is received when a character reaches x months old.
  • Randomly awarded from a Birthday Present which is received when a character reaches x months old.
4. *Core
  • Randomly awarded from a Birthday Present which is received when a character reaches x and x months old.

Personally I like the first one, but don't want to change all the pages lest someone the community likes a different option. I like the simpleness of years but the argument could be made that Guild Wars uses months to measure the age of a character. Also, do you need to put Core in there since every birthday present is core? Skykingcst 06:26, 22 June 2012 (UTC)

7th year drop rate[edit]

The assumption seems to be that every previous year's minis have the same drop rate, i.e. the chance of getting a 5th year is the same as getting a 1st year. Has anyone tried to verify this? I see that the research page[1] stopped collecting drop data after year 4. 76.253.0.17 07:31, 17 December 2012 (UTC)

Surprise box not tradeable?[edit]

I've traded many presents in the past, normally selling them unopened to other players. However, I today I got a voucher for my character's 8th birthday present, which I traded for a 7th birthday surprise box with an NPC, but the game doesn't seem to be allowing me to drag it into the trade window. Are unopened birthday surprise boxes not tradeable (with other players)? 87.112.216.167 20:28, 3 November 2013 (UTC)

I just tested it. Birthday Surprise Boxes cannot be traded nor dropped on the ground. --Silver Edge 06:56, 29 May 2014 (UTC)
added bit abt boxes not being tradeable to top info since most won't read the note, or anomaly. I know its repeating info, but, I get sick of having to point this out to ppl constantly. Durp da durp (talk) 23:48, 15 June 2019 (UTC)

an ordinal number using numerals and letter suffixes, e.g. 1st[edit]

Using "an ordinal number using numerals and letter suffixes, e.g. 1st" instead of Nth makes the text appear way larger than it needs to, and it confuses the point by not being direct. Using Nth is direct, short, and much clearer than the long and precise description it currently has. Thrain | contribs 15:16, 9 August 2014 (UTC)

So you want to change the Birthday Present in-game description, but not the Birthday Surprise Box in-game description? --Silver Edge 09:27, 11 August 2014 (UTC)
Where'd you read that? I'm for changing every instance of <an ordinal number using numerals and letter suffixes, e.g. 1st>. The in-game description has nothing to do with whether we use <an ordinal number using numerals and letter suffixes, e.g. 1st> or <Nth>. Thrain | contribs 20:32, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
what is your suggestion for how to express the words in Birthday Surprise Box text then <First/Second/etc>? -Chieftain Alex 20:35, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
But imo Nth is much better than "an ordinal number using numerals and letter suffixes, e.g. 1st". Much. Currently it's really unwieldy. Steve1 (talk) 20:43, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
You mentioned "an ordinal number using numerals and letter suffixes, e.g. 1st", but you never mentioned "an ordinal number using words, e.g. first" and you didn't indicate whether your suggestion was for the Birthday Present or Birthday Surprise Box in-game description, or both. --Silver Edge 20:59, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
The page should show that the Birthday Present and Birthday Surprise Box in-game descriptions differ from each other when displaying which birthday, whether it be in the quotation templates or the notes section. I.e. Birthday Present uses "1st" while Birthday Surprise Box uses "first". --Silver Edge 20:59, 12 August 2014 (UTC)
Ah, I didn't even notice the difference, my apologies. What Alex suggested seems like the best solution to me, as it isn't too long and gets the same message across. If we do end up going with that, should we use <1st/2nd/etc> as well for the other instances, to keep the trend? Thrain | contribs 12:03, 16 August 2014 (UTC)

Birthday Present
Happy <Nth> birthday!

— In-game description

<First/second/etc> Birthday Surprise Box
Uses remaining: 1
Contains a random <miniature/everlasting tonic> from the <first/second/etc> Birthday series. (Double-click to open.)

— In-game description

I think the top present looks ok, the second might be a bit clunky. (less clunky than the current expression, but still not perfect) -Chieftain Alex 13:42, 16 August 2014 (UTC)
Yeah, implement that one unless someone else has another suggestion. --Silver Edge 21:13, 17 August 2014 (UTC)
