Bug?[edit]

The walkthrough says "After he is defeated the Skeletons will stop attacking your party." in regards to the crystal ettin fight. Taking this advice to heart, my party rushed the ettin with everything we had and brought him down right away, only for all the skeletons to continue beating on us in spite of having killed the ettin and causing a party wipe. Either whoever wrote that little piece of advice was wrong, or this is a bug.

bug[edit]

There is a bug with this quest. thsi quest is the repeatable quest for bloodstone caves. however, after the first go, no essence drops to claim the quest reward. just abandon once in town and retake.-TehBuG-

My brother and I just played this quest with 6 heroes. The Ettin did drop a crystal, but it dropped only one (for my brother). He could get the quest reward, I couldn't. Looks like either too little crystals are being dropped or the heroes are sharing in the crystal drops. Either way, it's no fun. Zophar 15:02, 19 September 2007 (UTC)
Just did another run to try and get confirmation on the "heroes sharing the crystal drops" theory. I played with 3 heroes and 4 henchmen and there was no crystal dropped for me. So it looks like a hero or hench "stole" my drop. However, this could still also mean that the number of crystals dropped is incorrect. (in the first case: 1 dropped where it should have been 2, in this case 0 dropped in stead of 1) Zophar 20:23, 19 September 2007 (UTC)

I just finished this quest for a second time and the Spectral Crystal did drop for me. I'm not sure if the bug mentioned still exist, but the current wording of the bug is inaccurate. Tedium 02:24, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I did 4 runs within the last two days that weren't my first time to finish the quest and the crystal dropped for me every time, so there probably is no bug anymore (the chance for this with the heroe-share-drop-theory would have been less than 0.1%). Also, 1 time I did the quest together with somebody else and we both got a crystal. I reworded the bug note, but probably it could be removed completely. Bernado 13:21, 13 April 2009 (UTC)

Trivia Section[edit]

I meant to add this earlier, but I removed the note about the drug because Emily has stated that it is the band not the drug that it refers too. --Broodling67 01:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

That it refers to, or are allowed to refer it to? I mean, reading the quest dialogue it definitely suggests Crystal Meth. "I'm not sure what has addicted these lumbering hulks to to the magic crystals" and "Are you prepared to risk life...and looks..." seems obvious to me. BlazeRick 06:23, 25 October 2007 (UTC)

Probably a little of both. Although if one of the staff of ANet says its the band that this quest refers to then there shouldn't be any reason to say that it may also be a reference to the drug.
P.S. I hope you don't mind that I put an indent on what you wrote, it makes it easier to identify when different people have added something. --Broodling67 04:17, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
So, there isn't a real understanding of this indent stuff. Like, last week I got told indents are used for replies. Reply to the question uses the same indent, that thought. Ah well, from now on, I'ma start every post of mine with an extra indent. I don't care what y'all say! >.> BlazeRick 09:20, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Actually it appears as if I am not completely right. Also I did not mean to force indenting like that so I have reverted my change and put a space instead, and to rephrase what I said it is not required to indent but it is recomended. Sorry, I hope there are no hard feelings. --Broodling67 13:45, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
No hard feelings :) BlazeRick 15:29, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Trivia section revisited[edit]

It's obviously a reference to Crystal Meth (just as the band name is). Emily has stated otherwise, but ANet's official word can't condone drugs or whatnot (or dirty language in general; the seamen in "sticky operation" is another obvious one that Emily's denied).
I propose we list it anyway (as a "may be the inspiration for" instead of a "arenanet confirmed this") - contrary to most trivia, this one's obvious. ANet can't come out and say "yeah, we used an illegal addictive drug as inspiration for a quest name and some dialog" - but we can :) -Auron 12:54, 15 January 2008 (UTC)

"But we can :)". That's great Auron. But don't directly state it. Perhaps, "The name of this quest may also be a reference to the highly addictive drug, Crystal Meth." But of course, this sparks debate on a large disclaimer condoning the use of crystal meth. Calor (t) 02:09, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
Warning using crystal methetamine will lead to being slaughtered by Shining Blade agents. - User HeWhoIsPale sig.PNG HeWhoIsPale 02:26, 16 January 2008 (UTC)
I just say it is a reference to the band which in turn that band is the one referencing the drug. --Smithy-Star 20:48, 16 July 2009 (UTC)
So anet can't condone the use of drugs, but they can condone suicide? ~Shard User Shard Sig Icon.png 21:00, 16 July 2009 (UTC)

(Reset indent) This should defiantly be removed. There is nothing that indicates the name being any ref to this band. The preceding unsigned comment was added by 72.79.135.24 (talk • contribs) at 09:00, 28 January 2011 (UTC).

Except for Emily Diehl confirming that the band was the source. User_talk:Emily_Diehl/Trivia_archive#Triva check, second from last entry.  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 17:33, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
I think GWW just got its first reference!! | 72 User 72 Truly Random.jpg | 13:00, 14 June 2011 (UTC)

Reward dialogue[edit]

I think this quest's reward dialogue is mixed up with the reward dialogue of The Blade's Essence, but I can't confirm what The Blade's Essence reward dialogue is suppose to be since I already did that quest a long time ago. Tedium 02:24, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I decided to swap the reward dialogues, but The Blade's Essence reward dialogue still needs to be verified. Tedium 01:25, 14 May 2009 (UTC)

About the "Bug"[edit]

I don't think the skeletons remaining hostile is any kind of bug. It has happened to me everytime I've done this dungeon. Maybe the person who wrote that note got confused because undeads dissapear after killing the ettin while doing "Finding the bloodstone" quest with Gadd, but I think Anet wanted them to remain hostile while doing the dungeon itself so it's not a bug nor an anomaly. if it is, it happens too often (as I said, has happened to me everytime I did the "Crystal method" quest, and tha'ts plenty of times for sure :P) Lhoj 09:27, 19 August 2009 (UTC)

Survivors[edit]

Doing this quest on one character and then turning in the spectral crystal on another character does NOT work. I just tried it. If someone else could try it too, that would help, since I'm often wrong. So its back to farming The Ooze Pit for my survivor. *Malganis Frostmourn* 12.106.72.10 18:25, 10 January 2011 (UTC)
