Prayers[edit]
It's a good idea to spread out the acolytes because when you stack them they stack very diminishingly, i.e. 1 dwayna = +10 health, 2 dwayna = +14 health. (I know that's wrong btw, just trying to make the point.)ComfortOsprey 04:26, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- i saw a storage chest while doing this, did anyone else?? --Wild 06:01, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Yeah there is a Xunlai chest, can't use it though - I tried. I also noticed the quickly diminishing returns. Greneth has 5 hp life stealing with 1 acolyte praying, 6 with 2. I also know that Lyssa gives +energry and Melandru +hp (+10 and +50 for one iirc) 75.146.48.190 16:23, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- You can also see the Xunlai agent saying something like "I'll be safe in here" before disappearing into the chest. 65.41.186.227 23:57, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

John[edit]
I dont get what John Stumme did in this quest. Put a few Spawn Portal with intervals that activates x times. The only difficult thing here is the golem, can do 390 damage to 70 armor and almost 420 to 60 armor and since its a boss, conditions and hexes expires almost 50% faster so burning and blinding are almost useless. Anyone came up with a exploit to kill him?--ShadowFog 13:57, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Can you be a bit more specific about what you mean by not getting what I did? I don't mind answering questions if I am able to. John Stumme 18:30, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Most of the game is easy in normal mode. Try hard mode if want more of a challenge; the golems become a much bigger threat especially if you are slow in taking out a mob before the next one spawns. I never make tributes to the gods so I never get their buffs, for this reason I really enjoyed Gate of Madness and this quest, the idea of defending from a seige at the temple and praying for divine protection is a really cool fantasy mechanic for Guild Wars. Protecting acolytes and Selma makes it less static, if it had been too hard I probably would have hated it (everyone hates failing a mission because the NPC you have to protect dies). The difficulty of the mission is really customisable, from the builds you bring to the choices you make with the acolytes and whether you want to protect them all. Just because the game doesn't force you to perform a certain task (of which some people wouldn't find enjoyable) to pass doesn't mean you can't choose to do it anyway. 122.104.161.96 19:28, 5 September 2008 (UTC)
- Actually I want the special thing of the golem, the 10k gold. The only way to kill Shiro is to buy either GW:EoTN or NightFall, get a Me or N and cast Spiteful Spirit with some hexes(or have time to call a "stranger" which charges a hell of a lot or friend), the Heroes Mo are dumb when casting spells like Guardian, they do not seem to respond when to cast it so "...Anyone came up with a exploit to kill him?".--ShadowFog 00:14, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- Ok, just do this, tell all acolytes to pray to protection. Your party will have +26 armor enough to withstand the Golem Strike so you can heal and attack even with henchmen to finish this. Now on to P.O.X.--ShadowFog 01:37, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
- I'm thinking Xinrae's Weapon + Arcane Echo? Paddymew 15:20, 1 April 2009 (UTC)

Warrior Golem[edit]
There are warrior-type Golems that attack as well. They use at least Steady Stance and Desperation Blow. I don't know if there's an equivalent EN golem. --8765 07:35, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Dumb[edit]
R.O.X was sort of dumb when I faced him. I was playing as an air elementalist, with the M.O.X hero and only the ToA henchies. The NPCs were all praying for Dwayna. When R.O.X showed up, he messed up my party and I was the only survivor, but after that, he couldn't decide a target, so he ended up walking between the NPCs and me, so I was able to finish him alone (after a long time, with his high health). I don't know if this is common, if it is, it could be easily exploited.
Map image[edit]
The map image for this is incorrect, incorrectly displaying a deactivated ROX... MrPaladin talk 14:17, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- Could remove it and tag it, but do we really need a map? It takes place within an instanced Temple of Ages. It's, uh, not really hard to find him! :) Freedom Bound 14:21, 5 June 2009 (UTC)
- then the map could match the one used in temple of ages, and the deactivated ROX could jsut be a commented image in the article.
Spirit Spammer[edit]
I just beat both R.O.X. and N.O.X. the quickest I've done it, on spirit spamming ritualist. 98.23.140.91 01:57, 30 August 2009 (UTC)
Solo necro: Grenth & Balthazar[edit]
Just a warning that Salma can and will run into battle and get herself killed. She died on me twice when R.O.X. was getting close to dropping. I hate protecting reckless NPC's, but it's at least helpful to know that they are reckless before starting the mission. I recommend having a Monk hero's command bar open to use Healing Breeze, Protective Spirit, etc. on Salma as needed.
After sending all acolytes to Lyssa failed twice, I changed my necro's energy-intense vampiric skills to a lighter Hexes-only set based around Hexer's Vigor and Spiteful Spirit (OABCY8xkW4eglwYQeAbwhAiA) with maxed Curses & Soul Reaping. I took Ogden (elite:Healing Hands), M.O.X. (elite:Onslaught), Jora (elite:Flourish) and the healer, fighter, brawler and archer henchies for mostly physical damage. M.O.X. also got the necro Blood skills Order of Pain, Unholy Feast and Demonic Flesh.
I split the acolytes between Grenth(3) and Balthazar(2) because they're the two closest to Salma's initial position. I stationed the whole party in the passage leading to Salma, between the Grenth and Balthazar statues. This meant no running to defend distant acolytes: if the enemy golems went up the ramps I hit them with ranged attacks/hexes, and it wasn't out of range for melee NPC's. Plus when Salma darted out into battle again, I saw where she went. My physical damage-dealers benefited from the acolytes' Dark Aura and Battle Fervor prayers and M.O.X. kept Order of Pain up during melee while I spammed hexes. The regular golems dropped like flies; R.O.X. took longer but was still no problem. Salma and all acolytes survived. -- Tekn0mancer 01:14, 26 December 2009 (UTC)
