and does his daggers ever spawn?|"19:41, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

Bosses do double damage. Same way Acolyte of Balthazar can do 400 a hit sometimes.-- User Vanguard VanguardLogo.pnganguard 19:50, 24 January 2009 (UTC)

I have received a set of Lou's Korambits. It's been a while back though. I got them during the deactivating pox quest with my assassin. "Just lucky I guess." --Ravencroft0 07:17, 9 April 2010 (UTC)

spawn?[edit]

Okay, this was a bit odd. I went to the point where Lou is supposed to spawn, and i read that you had to go down to the sewer part and then he'll spawn. So I went in a little bit and his minions starting spawning. I figured I'd just kill off his minions then proceed to go in further to spawn the boss... But after I killed the minions, he never spawned. I explored the area further, still nothing. Anyway, went back to town and tried again. This time I went all the way in and finally Lou spawns with his minions... Glitch? Or is he just a wuss without his minions?--User Zemmy Signature.png Zemmy 17:26, 27 October 2007 (UTC)

SOB its way to late at night for crappy lil glitches like these to come up. especially when they've known about it since JUNE 5TH 2007. i'm goin to bed.07:42, 14 March 2008 (UTC)

i read up on the other wiki that he only shows up during the quest Finding The Oracle, and when he dose show up he dosnt have his elite.75.172.43.90 06:33, 25 August 2008 (UTC)
Boss did his "I'm here one moment, gone the next" trick. I cleared the entire area of baddies and still didn't popped up. I was going to give up but then walked down stairs near where he first appeared, then 2 groups and Lou spawned all around. Still, poorly designed section, no information given for poorly designed spawn unless it's an 'ambush' trap but can easily be missed if that's the condition. 118.93.55.99 01:17, 13 February 2009 (UTC)
Same here. Looks like it may take two or three meanders through the gooey stuff in the Shenzun Tunnels location (I hesitate to call it "water") before, first of all, his minions appear, then finally Lou himself. Kirbett 20:45, 24 March 2009 (UTC)

Fought him on the bridge, no boss aura and no Morale Boost. Maybe the same glitch that labels Jungle Trolls as Warthogs? --Oneshot 08:42, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

I think I've figured out what is going on here in a reproducible manner. Walk up to where he spawns, then go down the stairs into the goop. He will then spawn with some minions on the upper level. Lou himself will then rappel down to fight you. I assume that this must be the intended ambush, because he's programmed to rappel down and there's the animation and everything.

Level[edit]

I just saw him pop up as a level 20, and with no boss aura.-- User Vanguard VanguardLogo.pnganguard 16:07, 9 November 2009 (UTC)

Wut[edit]

I walked into the pit, he spawned above me with some npc's, he walked to the ridge, did a strange sort of jumping emote and landed in the pit and bowed to me (I was an Assassin). Does he always bow to assassins and does he always jump down? DemonicFahrir 09:11, 5 July 2010 (UTC)

Did the same for me (I was also an assassin) -- nice touch Anet.Sjhshh 16:25, 9 August 2010 (UTC)

Spawn fix?[edit]

I just went to our friend Lou to capture his elite skill. When I came to his spawning location and pressed CTRL (show names) his name appeared, and then instantly dissapeared. So I thought I had to rezone and try this again...

Before I rezoned, I ran into the "water" (downstairs) and then suddenly a bunch of Am-Fahs popped up, together with Lou. Therefor I think Lou is meant to pop up when you run into a certain locaion, and this part is not a bug?

(+ he also jumped down like with Sjhshh, didn't catch the bowing tough, I was again upstairs to kill them.

I always get names of hidden spawns that immediately vanish on most spawns of this type, if I am moving while holding the ctrl key. The same for chests which I have opened (except that the chest name remains as long as I hold the ctrl key). Oni do not spawn this way, so Oni names do not appear in this manner, niether do Mandragor. Apparently this is a minor graphics glitch, and it has been around for as long as I can remember.
Such creatures require that you enter a specific mapspace to cause them to actually spawn. Gwynna Vive 02:34, 24 December 2010 (UTC)
There is a glitch-like thing that happens sometimes upon zoning. There appear to be two different types of pop-ups: the first is event triggered, and so does not exist at all in the zone until/unless the event takes place. The second type involves hidden spawns; these spawns are present but invisible to the player. Heroes and other NPCs cannot make the Type 1 pops appear; they can trigger the Type 2s to pop (usually when they enter aggro range).
When you see the names of hidden spawns (that later vanish), you're seeing the game glitch as it hides the Type 2 pops; you won't see the Type 1s (again, b/c they aren't yet present in the zone).  — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 02:44, 24 December 2010 (UTC)

Shenzun Tunnels[edit]

Right, so I went after this guy in the Shenzun Tunnels, and as I approached I saw his name with CTRL (it appeared that he was on the upper level), but when I got close the name disappeared. I wandered around the zone and killed the 4 marksmen in the area, but he still did not appear. I went down the stairs into the mud below and a few more mobs spawned on the upper level, but not him. I went back up, and this time he came down on a rope (on the upper level), but he proceeded to run and got stuck in a wall and warp away while I was attacking him (I later saw he went into the mud and after a while finally came up the stairs to fight). This boss was a real pain to kill....207.216.235.240 05:58, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

Undone note regarding phantasmal Lou[edit]

"As one comes into compass range of this boss in Shenzun Tunnels, he will sometimes briefly appear then disappear on top of the walkway slightly to the West of his actual spawn location - proceeding down the walkways will still trigger his ambush as normal." — original note

After TEF reverted my edit from yesterday regarding Lou's tendency to briefly appear, I wanted to provide my reasoning for having added it in the first place, and wanting to add it again. The reason given for the reversion is that the display glitch is non-unique to Lou; many hidden pop-ups can be similarly glimpsed for a moment as they come into range. Fair enough; if my primary purpose had been to document a general glitch in a specific article, that would have been inappropriate. However, the main point of my note was in fact to mention that Lou, unlike most pop-ups, glitches to appear in a slightly different place than where he actually catches aggro and attacks from - saliently, therefore, moving to where one saw Lou via the glitch will not trigger his ambush. In conjunction with the fact that the Shenzun Tunnels map is not detailed enough when seen in its small sidebar view to clearly differentiate between the actual spawn point and the glitched appearance, this can make Lou difficult to find. Anyway, sorry that this turned out to be a wall of text, or if I'm still being unreasonable, but it seems at least potentially noteworthy. --Mercenary 18:23, 27 July 2011 (UTC)

Any NPC that can appear multiple places will also seem to appear in spots other than their ultimate spawning location. If the goal is to make it easier to find the one, true Lou, then let's focus on improving how we document that, rather than detailing a non-unique glitch. In other words, let's make it a note about finding Lou, rather than a {{bug}} note about not finding him.
For example, "Although he might seem to appear earlier, you can only kill him in his true spawning location, which can be identified by... [insert improved instructions here]." Or even, "Follow the quest starburst and ignore the red dots (although a visual bug might make it seem that Lou will spawn elsewhere)."Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:36, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
Sure, either of those would be reasonable. I think you have a firmer idea of what to go for, and probably less chance of being predated by the Recent changes hawks, so I'll leave the final wording up to you. Thanks for responding promptly, and sorry for burying the lead in my original wording. --Mercenary 18:50, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
I should have read your text more carefully (i.e. I think the fault was mine for misunderstanding). I haven't tracked down Lou recently: what do you think would help first-timers to find Lou without being distracted by his, erm, Shadow? — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 18:56, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
can't you just follow the quets starburst/wikimaps? 24.130.140.36 18:59, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
thanks for updating! — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:05, 27 July 2011 (UTC)
you could, lol, if there WAS a "Quests Starburst" --The preceding unsigned comment was added by H2L (talk) at 22:03, 6 December 2011 (UTC).
