Version number?[edit]

Is the number in the bottom left corner of the Options panel the version / build number? -- Gordon Ecker 10:00, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

It's the build number. -- Gem (gem / talk) 10:16, 23 November 2007 (UTC)

Subpages for each tab?[edit]

Hihi, thinking about adding some info to this page. However before that, I did wonder about spliting off entry for each tab into subpages, e.g. Options/General, Options/Graphics etc. and then using inclusion to display them back in mainpage (much like Collector NPC pages and the collector info). I can see some of the sections being quite long, and handling things this way could make each section more manageable while still retaining a single "Options" page. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 13:19, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

I think that would be a good idea if it makes maintaining the article easier. - anja talk 13:22, 16 January 2008 (UTC)

Graphics[edit]

I messed with the Graphics Tab and now I can never get it back to normal. Can someone tell me the normal settings to see if that works?

You mean like teh Auto-Detect button or Reset All? --Underwood 22:26, 7 April 2008 (UTC)

Maximum resolution[edit]

Hello. Does anyone here know what the maximum resolution is you can play in full screen? This because I am about to buy a new monitor and wonder if GW is able to run in full screen on a high resolution. TY. - -ArcticWind User:ArcticWind 11:03, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

I don't know if Anet has specified a max res for GW, but I'm happily running at 1600x1200 (4:3 ratio) with no issues, and I've friends who've used wide-screen at similar high resolutions. --BramStoker (talk, contribs) 12:47, 28 July 2008 (UTC)
I can play in 2560x1024 in dual-screen, so I think there's no problem with only one monitor.--77.197.118.76 17:29, 12 June 2009 (UTC)

Action:Follow[edit]

Does anyone have any idea what this does? How is it different than just selecting someone and pressing space? --Nkuvu User Nkuvu sig button.jpg 17:39, 18 October 2008 (UTC)

Interacting with a friendly NPC will usually start a conversation. Interacting with an enemy will make your character to start attacking. Interacting with an object (say, a lever or a bundle) will either make you activate/analyze it or pick it up.
Following friendly NPC will make you run towards it and stop next to it. Following an enemy will make you run towards it and stop nearby. Following an object will make you run towards it and stop by its side. --NIN37 06:41, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Language[edit]

I changed the language to Japanese for some stupid reason... and now it won't change back. I know how to get to options and get to the box where I chose Japanese... and it lists English... but when I click it, nothing happens... Shew 05:59, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Are you sure you're changing "text language" (1st drop down menu) and not "audio language" (second drop down menu)? --NIN37 06:42, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Hmm I'll check. Shew 16:07, 24 November 2008 (UTC)
Haha wow I'm an idiot. Thanks for the help!-- Shew 16:09, 24 November 2008 (UTC)

Hotkeys[edit]

AS a monk, I want to assign hotkeys to each of the party members, but the stupid thing won't let me. I scroll down in control to Targeting - Party Member - 1, and try to assign but the assign button is grayed out...any suggestions? Sentry007 User Sentry007 sig.png 22:47, 17 May 2009 (UTC) Nvm, I got >.< Sentry007 User Sentry007 sig.png 22:49, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Might be a little late but you have to enter the key first then click assign, i.e. Select "Targeting: Party Member 1", then push NUM1 when the text field is active, and then the assign button will light up which will let you add the entered key into the list for that action. Effect Sound[edit]

Hello guys, I have a little bit of a problem. I hear constantly a women shouting (like the shout when she hit with a melee attack) even when I am not fighting or in a town. I am beginning to find this quit annoying.

In a try to prevent this, I tried to change some volume things. I found out it was coming from the effect volume. Anyone know a way to DO hear the normal effects, but don't hear the women keep shouting? F. C. Sauër 19:50, 17 December 2009 (UTC)

Anisotropic Filtering[edit]

Does Guild Wars use anisotropic filtering if you enable say with the Catalyst Control Center? Sigil Baram talk 02:13, 28 December 2009 (UTC)

Gw: ..[edit]

What does the number in the left bottom corner Gw: .. mean? ,- Konschu Assassin's Promise.jpg 13:05, October 13, 2010 (UTC)

That's like, the update number. →[ »Halogod User Halogod35 Sig.png (talk ]← 01:14, 29 October 2010 (UTC)

Function Keys[edit]

I may have missed it, but I can't seem to find information on whether it is possible to bind function key + key for a specific action, ie: alt+1 for a hero to use skill 1. 77.237.14.251 19:39, 21 March 2011 (UTC)

we should really add a new page for the contents of each menu item. But that would be a huge task for not alot of reward. Any who, to view any hotkey or to assign a hotkey go to menu> options > controls tab. A long list ensues. - a_Liability (too lazy to login)

Soundtracks[edit]

I am not sure where to post this so I'm going to do it here. I would like to make a page where all the soundtracks in-game are listed and available to hear. There are some pretty interesting ones in GW so it wouldn't hurt to know anyone agrees with me. MagnumUser_talk:Magnum 12:30, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

On the individual region pages, there is sometimes a section such as The Jade Sea#Soundtrack. It would be appropriate to link from there, definitely. A sountracks/music page would also be cool, although it would probably get less attention than it deserves because it seems unlikely that anyone is going to search for "soundtrack", either on the wiki or in-game. One question arises, though: how are you going to point to the soundtracks? The only permitted filetypes on GWW right now are png, gif, jpg, jpeg, svg, and of course none of those are sound. For that matter, if I remember correctly the only sound format that can be uploaded to wikis is ogg. A lot of the less tech-savvy people aren't going to be able to play that, because ogg isn't supported by the default players like Windows Media Player and Quicktime (although I haven't checked this for a while). There is also the "youtube extension" which would allow us to link to the songs if they were on youtube, but that's kind of sketchy and probably involves some messy copyright stuff. The copyrights are also important...I know there was a reason having to do with that which prevented GuildWiki from doing a similar project to this in the past. It had to do with "even though the songs are ANet property, they are licensed and sold through DirectSong" or something like that.
So yeah, it would be a cool thing to do, if all the hurdles could be overcome. :p 76.78.119.108 15:31, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
In fact, I was thinking more like how music is played on wikipedia. Try [1]. I apologize that page is not in english, but it is the best example I found. MagnumUser_talk:Magnum 16:33, 23 August 2011 (UTC)
Right. That's one way to do it. If you edit the page you can see they're using ogg files. Since I have VLC Media Player, it is not a problem for me to download the file to my computer and play it myself. However, if I just hit the play button, nothing happens. That only works if you have XYZ software installed, and I do not. From wikipedia:Media help:
"Some Wikipedia articles include sound or video files, which can be played on almost all personal computers. However, your computer must have the right software. If your computer does not automatically play these files when you click on them, downloading and installing free software from the internet can enable it to do so.
Sound files on Wikipedia generally use the Vorbis audio format, and video files use the Theora format, both contained in an Ogg file. These are analogous to other formats used to play digital audio and video such as MP3 and MPEG. However, Microsoft Windows and Mac OS X do not support these formats by default, and require additional software to play them (see below)."
It's a bit of a hassle to make people do that, I think...it would be like telling people they have to go get Photoshop so they can view image files on the wiki. I guess that is the price they have to pay if they want to listen, though. 76.78.119.108 18:40, 23 August 2011 (UTC)

message ding[edit]

my incoming messages stopped making that ding sound and i tried resetting the sound settings but no dice any sugestions?

Advanced[edit]

What exactly does the new (?) checkbox "Advanced" in Options -> Graphics? It doesn't have any specific description. Apparently it improves the shape of the distant objects by replacing the low-quality models with hormal high-quality ones. Maybe some other changes like shadow or light effects. Noticed in the version Gw: 36.761. --109.252.109.70 06:29, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

It basically replaces the former -lodfull command line option. Granted, the naming (and translations) could be better. --Smiley™ de: user | talk 12:49, 26 June 2018 (UTC)
The lack of detail in the text is probably due to the fact this was implemented by two guys in their own time, without access to localisation resources to get all the translations in. Loggy (talk) 13:34, 26 June 2018 (UTC)

Sound: "Optimize for stereo / headphones"[edit]
