When I started the quest, it said that I had already inscribed the words into the gravestone, but hadn't found it yet... Paddymew 05:27, 8 April 2009 (UTC)

Same thing happened for me, adding as a bug C4K3 User C4K3 Signature.jpg Talk 15:49, 20 June 2009 (UTC)
Definitely a bug, happened to me as well. calor (talk) 03:14, 7 August 2009 (UTC)
This bug is caused by someone running you to LA. The player who ran me had the quest and completed it. I recently took the quest with the character who got the run and since my party completed that part and I never went to the location... you get the idea. False. This bug can occur for anyone, even if they are Prophecies characters who have just left Ascalon. No requirements or causes to it. - Infinite - talk 16:50, 18 September 2013 (UTC)

Oswalt's Epitaph[edit]

You misunderstood what I said and then you changed it. I never went to that area, I received a run through from a player. They ran me to Grendich Courthouse and then went by his grave on the way to the portal before we stopped over in Yak's Bend. At this point, I didn't have the quest and I don't know if they did either I assume they might have messed with it.

Much later (weeks or months) when in I was back in Yak's Bend I took the quest and it pointed at a foggy spot on the map between the portal and Grendich Courthouse. But it had the last point of the quest scratched off and the first point still open. So it said I had already inscribe Elsa's words on the headstone without actually finding his grave... nice trick. I can only assume this is from the other player in party and not my actions since I was very inactive during the run.

This little bug/glitch and how it happens and whatnot are not important to me. In my opinion, there are bigger bugs that should have been fixed long before I bought the game. But since I have 4 empty slots on my account I could make up a noobie and have someone run the character up to Yak's Bend past the grave again. Let me know if that is what you want me to do eh? I just went and tested it with my necro and ele who haven't completed Shiverpeak Stragglers (Oswalt's Epitaph's preceding quest) and based on their maps they had someone run them through Ascalon Foothills (I don't remember since these characters were created before Factions was released). I went and completed Shiverpeak Stragglers on both of them and the "Inscribe Elsa's words on the headstone" objective was completed immediately when acquiring Oswalt's Epitaph. It would be very coincidental for the two different runners that ran my necro and ele to both complete Oswalt's Epitaph during their runs. So the bug could be caused by [a] the runner completing the quest during the run, [b] being run through Ascalon Foothills, [c] entering Ascalon Foothills before acquiring Oswalt's Epitaph, or [d] it could just be the quest is bugged no matter if your character is run through Ascalon Foothills or not. Your comment on Talk:Oswalt's Epitaph noted that the runner character completed Oswalt's Epitaph while running your character, but your comment here notes that you're not certain if the runner completed Oswalt's Epitaph while running your character. I've edited the note on Oswalt's Epitaph, since we're not certain what causes the bug.
I don't have any empty character slots. You could investigate it further if you wanted to. Although if you were to test it, another possible test would be to have someone run you to Nolani Academy (outpost) and complete Nolani Academy to end up in Yak's Bend, bypassing Ascalon Foothills. This would determine if the bug still occurs if your character never enters Ascalon Foothills before acquiring Oswalt's Epitaph. --Silver Edge 06:17, 25 June 2013 (UTC)
Sorry for the confusion on my part. Poor language skills and whatnot. I had another run a character through brand new and I told the person not to mess with the grave site at all. We stopped over a the Grendich Courthouse and then they ran through to Yak's Bend, while I sat at the Grendich Courthouse, and it was the same bug popped up. That player had already finished the mission but not messed with the grave, yet the bug it is there. Now I am looking for someone who has not done this mission to run another new character beyond the Courthouse to Yak's Bend but all the player's say they did it or don't want to try. It seems the bug occurs more often than occasionally. --Silver Edge 21:43, 9 July 2013 (UTC)
