Yeah, I don't know how to do this either...but I got 1 Powerstone, 5 Lokum, and 1 Res scroll out of 3 gifts. I'd be grateful iff someone would be kind enough to add that. (174.49.228.112 09:51, 22 May 2010 (UTC))

I'll move this to discussion page, thanks! Mar Talk Master 05:55, 22 May 2010 (UTC)
Also can we add a Scroll of Hero's Insight? I'm afraid I'll mess it up if I try to add it, but I did get one earlier --FasterThanC 19:21, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

Design of table?[edit]

I hate to admit it, but I don't think I understand the table. The leftmost column - what does it represent? The number(sum) of royal gifts we received, or the number of items inside all the gifts we got? I'd suppose it's the former, but I'm not sure anymore and the numbers don't really point either way. So before I'm distorting the result, I'll refrain from adding values till I know how to correctly fill it. For the recond, just opened 1 gift for 4 brandy.--Cyberman 17:35, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

The number on the left is the number of gifts opened, the other sections are for the times you recieved that item (however many) so one gift yielding 2 brandy would have a 1 for gift, and a 1 under brandy. Sonic Sunday User Da Sonic Sig2.png 00:34, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I see. Thanks for the explanation.--Cyberman 07:47, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Thanks to Balistic's flexible template, each data line now calculates the gift total automatically.Mar Talk Master 12:25, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I noticed. Great work you all did to that table. Perhaps it's time to reorder the items? Bundle scrolls and such. With the flexible template it shouldn't be a problem, I think. (Though I'm not even thinking about touching it. Too much risk of ruining it...)--Cyberman 13:16, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I had the same idea, but while we are still adding categories, 1 at a time, it might be a bit better to wait til that process stops. However, changing the template will do it automatically. The grouping could be set up to mirror the Royal Gift page. I would want to update the totals and percentages at the same time to keep everything in sync.Mar Talk Master 13:30, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I reordered the columns to "group" things up like this - minis, summoning, consumables, scrolls, other - emphasis on "unique items" to the beginning of the line. Mar Talk Master 17:12, 25 May 2010 (UTC)

Editing?[edit]

Why can't I update my line anymore? I just got 10 more, (6 SB rations(1, and 5), 1 Scroll of Rampager's Insight, 1 Expert Salvage kit, a Powerstone, 2 Lockpicks, a Medal of Honor, 1 Superior Id kit, a Scroll of Hunters insight and a Krytan Lokum)User:NoggiecaNoggieca 23:54, 22 May 2010 (UTC)

It's a template now. Find yours and then add on to it. –User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 00:51, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I have no idea whatsoever how to edit that table so I'll just list here what I got so far - 1 brandy, 4 lokum, 1 medal of honor, 1 powerstone of courage, 1 scroll of hunter's insight. If anyone would be so nice as to explain in layman's terms how to edit this I would appreciate it, since a guildie and I plan on spending whole day tomorrow running Falken. Razor39999 02:42, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Simple. Type
{{/line|~~~~|<parameters here>}}
replace <parameters here> with (example of yours) |brandy=1|lokum=4|medal=1|powerstone=1|hunter's insight=1 –User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 04:28, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
I've added yours ^_^ –User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 04:31, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
In keeping with the desire to drop the date value from data entries, please use the slightly different pattern shown here:
{{/line | ~~~ | <parameters here> }}
Mar Talk Master 19:47, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

I have gotten 1 SB war horn,1 grail of Might, 1 powerstone, and 1 5 pack of brandy. form four packages- mike [added by 99.100.113.75 ]

Added data. Mike please sign your comments with the ~~~~ symbol. Mar Talk Master 19:47, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

WOOOOOO MINI EVENNIA!!!!! ... ahem ... sorry got excited there :-) User:NoggiecaNoggieca 22:33, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for the info on how to edit this. I added the drops for both me and my guildie (we spent the whole afternoon and part of the evening running Falken through Watchtower Coast). Hope that's ok, if not I can make a separate line for his drops, but I don't see how that would matter? More of the same coming in tomorrow. :D Razor39999 22:39, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Total[edit]

Someone else changes the total right? Eive_Windgrace 00:39, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

There are a number of drop rate fans that swoop-in and update the calculations. Mar Talk Master 04:55, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Random amount of stacked items[edit]

For consistency, people should be aware either they have to put amount of consummables they got or they have to count them as only one occurence. Elephant 13:48, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Added a note about this to the top of the table, I hope this will help clarify your point.Mar Talk Master 14:57, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Thank you. Now anonymous IP removed all timestamps ><... Elephant 17:09, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
The timestamps did make the rows tall. See Before and After, Skerry's row was just taking up more space. –User Balistic B d-dark.pngalistic 17:48, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
Whole table itself is extra large already. Its only purpose is to gather players' rates and occurences. If a player line accidentally happens to take more space than the others, just make the signature colomn wider, instead of stripping all other lines to make them homogeneous... to that line. Elephant 18:15, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

By category[edit]

Good job whoever got that up there. Eive Talk Windgrace 21:57, 26 May 2010 (UTC)

Add this for me[edit]

Cuz i dunno how, plus id rather not try and somehow manage to destroy the whole page.

7 gifts

2 scrolls 1 mini salma (<3) 4 krytan lokum 2 scrolls of adventurer's insight, 1 superior identification kit DemonicFahrir 06:53, 21 June 2010 (UTC)

Keep on adding[edit]

Is it still needed? The rates have pretty much stabilised..Aerials93talk 23:48, 27 November 2010 (UTC)

Similar thought 18 months later, the page is absolutely gargantuan, I'd like to propose we move all current user data onto a subpage, and represent that data with a single line with the totals on, so our data isn't compromised, but that new additions will have a quicker editing time on a less-than-91kb page. Automatically calculate totals[edit]

edit1 edit2

I've told the wiki to calculate the damn totals itself. Leave the math to the computers, I say! Unfortunately, the technical details require that the totals are displayed below the data entries, which would display them waaaay down below where nobody would find them. To alleviate that, I've hidden the data entries by default. That's not nice, but IMHO preferable to manually updating totals.

Do you prefer this solution over the previous manual one? If so, shall I port it to Gift of the Traveler/Drop rate as well? Maybe others? I made a little script that autogenerates the required code from a list of parameter names, so it wouldn't be a big problem to do so. Tub 20:11, 8 February 2012 (UTC)

Since there's only data on the drop rate articles, can't we include the data and the totals in two different sections and allow people's to use the Table of Contents to navigate to totals quickly? (There are manual ways to create a section/link in the middle of a Table, if that's the issue.) Or maybe a drop rate navigation tool that has links for e.g. "View totals," "Add data," and "View data." That's a different sort of kludge to using show/hide, but it might be easier for ppls using smaller screens/windows or smart phones.
Regardless, I prefer Tub's solution to the manual mathematics solution. We can almost guarantee that if the totals are manual, there will be errors and/or delays in updating them. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 01:15, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
I had tried using sections for easier editing of the totals part. Unfortunately, that breaks the preview button: if the wiki attempts to preview a section that contains neither start nor end of the table, then no table can be displayed. While we could use sections for easier navigation, the "Edit section"-button that appears may cause confusion when used. Tub 12:10, 6 March 2012 (UTC)
Soz, what I meant was using {{anchor}} to create artificial anchors. I've done that with Royal Gift/Drop rate and Imperial Guard Lockbox/Drop rate; it seems to work fine and hasn't borked the table, the preview, or the show/hide. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 19:14, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
Oh, that's what you mean. Yeah, that would work. It doesn't look like a proper TOC, but it'll work. (We could mimic the TOC code, but introducing a floating container next to the centered notice is going to look bad, since it'll misalign them.) Tub 19:48, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
We can cheat a ToC, as I did here, but it's really only two links: jump to entries or to totals, so anything that looks ok works fine. It's a data collection page, so imo it doesn't need to be as nice looking as primary articles. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:01, 12 March 2012 (UTC)
I've faked the default ToC layout here. I've made the ToC a bit longer than the visible part to force it to appear next to both notices. That way, they'll still align properly. Good enough? Shall I add it to the lockbox, too? Tub 12:56, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
Yes, that looks better (and better than "good enough"). (I was far too lazy to look up the css for the ToC.) Thanks. – Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 16:38, 13 March 2012 (UTC)
