Talk:White Moa
Read Me[edit]
After porting in and out of the Southern portal of Sifhalla for about 80 times i have finally captured a White Moa pet. Please take a look at the picture for more details. I have not completed GW:EN, so you can get it even if you have not completed it. You will see them straight away once you enter the explorable area.
Keep going in and out, simple as. --Silveruniverse 21:45, 10 August 2008 (UTC)
Perhaps someone should add this to the main page for reference for those who wants to cap one this way.Vonturn Runesworth 08:07, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- It took me 4 tries but i finally got Baby and im happy.also i dont know how to take a snapshot and put it up here or i would have showed lol-Icyyy Blue
I had never seen any until I finished the Dwarven quest "Attack on Jalis's Camp" then ported to sifhalla and walked out the right southern gate. Don't know if this has any relevance but thought it might be useful to somebody.
Consequences of Non-Charmable[edit]
If the White Moa is not able to be charmed (or not thought to be able to be charmed), then should it or should it not be removed from the pets list? --File:User Troy Frostwind sig.png Troy Frostwind File:User Troy Frostwind sig.png 04:03, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- Every time I've encountered them in game they are non-charmable. -elviondale (tahlk) 07:18, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
- The name color looks like the NPC green rather than the pet green. Delgadude 11:58, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
Ummm I have capped a White Moa. I can send screenshot if you want proof. 86.145.144.185 12:08, 25 August 2007 (UTC) I caught it! it is charmable, it's so pretty!
- Why did they put such an awesome pet in the game if they aren't going to make it charm able? I would think it's just not charm able this weekend, but later on it will be. Dancing Gnome 13:01, 25 August 2007 (UTC)
They are charmable, but the one outside Sifhalla, with the pack i think there is only one that is charmable, i just tried and one wasnt but i followed them for awhile and one seemed abit faster, and that one was charmable Azorax 06:32, 3 May 2009 (UTC) Yea its the one in the closer to you is the one to charm its pretty easy the others are probably to young or the one is the head of the group lol but it is faster it was zooming!!-Icyyy Blue
- To charm mine, I chose the one nearest the middle and furthest from me. Targeted it, went to charm, worked first time. ;) --Spigs 02:09, 16 January 2010 (UTC)

Odd Evolution - no loss of HP[edit]
I want to quote the GuildWiki:
I evolved one to aggressive but its HP didn't decrease by 30 like normal. instead its armor seems to have dropped since it is taking lots more damage Lizardman175 17:58, 25 August 2007 (CDT)
I noticed the same - I have Dire Mountain Eagles and Dire Black Wolves. They 1. did not grow and 2. they did not lose 30 HP per aggressive/dire evolution. They still have 480 like an Elder pet. --Longasc 19:36, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- They don't lose 30 HP when evolved to aggressive, but they seem to lose armor instead. 68.202.112.108 19:40, 26 August 2007 (UTC)
- As a note I evolved my Mountain Eagle to hearty [deliberately] and it still has 480HP instead of the 540 that it should. Maybe evolution effects are disabled for EOTN pets until the actual release? This is something they will have to look into. Andrik Of Ascalon 10:44, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I can confirm your observation, Andrik. My Hearty GWEN pets did not get any HP. The Dires did not lose any. Not sure if their damage output changed at all. I used Feral Aggression, regardless of evolution pets smack butt with it. I have the feeling they just did not really evolve in size or stats, only the names got updated, at least this is my impression. --Longasc 11:20, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- Well something definitely changed, because my Moa is getting OHKO'd frequently. That shouldn't be happening, to say the least... Arshay Duskbrow 11:27, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- I reported this issue in detail to GW support. I would ask you to do the same, also posted this bug on GW Guru. Most people give a damn about their pets, but the pets of my heroes are a vital part of my build and I could not stand it to run around with oddly bugged pets. Which do not grow and have the skins I really would like to have for my pets. :( --Longasc 15:15, 27 August 2007 (UTC)
- The only EN pets I think probably aren't able to grow are mountain eagles, as they use an altered phoenix model which does not grow. However, not having the evolution effects is somewhat annoying. I've reported it to support and hopefully they'll take note if enough of us do so. I love me eagle to bits and I hope that the issue can be resolved. Andrik Of Ascalon 13:12, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- if their armor really change instead of their health, this is maybe a unique and calculated for GW:EN pets. but i doubt it as you couldn't get one for your pvp chars, which would be a disadvantage for pvp-only players, what anet doesn't make... Zerpha The Improver 00:42, 2 September 2007 (UTC)

Map?[edit]
When GW:EN comes out can someone put a map on this page to where we can charm a white moa? --Hellbringer 22:08, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
- Just go straight out the southern gate of Sifhalla into Drakkar Lake. You can find a group right there. Just keep going in and out until you see them, that's how I got one. It was extremely easy. Arshay Duskbrow 22:18, 30 August 2007 (UTC)
Not seeing it. I've been out over 10 times and made it over halfway to the next zone.68.226.60.233 21:36, 3 September 2007 (UTC)- 30th time I guess, they spawn right outside for anyone wondering. 68.226.60.233 05:52, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
dose this pet grow or not?
- It didn't until they fixed it, it does now. My Dire one is huge. I'm max tallness for a female Ranger but I only come up to its back now. It's great. :) Arshay Duskbrow 01:04, 31 August 2007 (UTC)
- When I go out of the exit on my own they are always there. Just rarely there when I go with heroes/henchies but they do show up sometimes --Andyana 15:12, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
Sound Set[edit]
I'm a big fan of Moa Birds, so I had to go out and cap one of these with one of my characters. Interesting tidbit of information: They use a unique sound set that isn't used by the standard red Moa. I haven't gotten my hands on a black one (I plan to, though) to listen to that one's sounds. GammaRay 21:37, 1 September 2007 (UTC)
- maybe i remember wrong, but i'd say black moas squeak like the "normal" ones. Zerpha The Improver 00:39, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- The Black Moas make a funny little 3-part squawk, in at least two different keys. I wasn't sure what it was the first time my pet did it :) (I'm not familiar with what normal Moas do...) Esadha Kephal 21:20, 4 September 2007 (UTC)
- Yeah, I've also noticed White Moas make a different squawking noise. If I'm correct, the squawks should be that of the flamingos from Nightfall.
- By the way, for whoever was wondering, Black Moas make regular Moa squawks. --The preceding unsigned comment was added by User:Slapperfish .

i cant find them were are they when u guys charm them??
Well, whomever you are, they spawn just outside of Sifhalla, to the left of the portal in Drakkar Lake. They spawn past the nearby Vaetirr and second resurrection shrine (the first is right next to Sifhalla). Eryops3 01:42, 3 January 2010 (UTC)

i found a flock of white moa just outside of Olafsstead when coming from another explorable area. king 04:10, 24 February 2008 (UTC)
I would recommend trying just outside of Olafstead myself. First time I was there I saw a flock (but didn't have a ranger hero ><) and it only took me approx six rezones to see a flock and capture one just now. 88.106.234.14 00:24, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
I dunno id i'm doing it wrong but i warped 56+ times in and out of olafstead (since they run toward you) to get me a birdie and they never spawn i have the quest Tracking the Nornbear and i have one hero to cap the moa am i doing anything wrong ?
- this may be a little late, but if u arent walking down the slope to go find them i dont think they run..untill they see you that is..becuase i just got my second one and got both in less then 10 zones Fire and deaths 11:04, 7 December 2008 (UTC)

Charming with a Hero[edit]
I love my white moa and was thinking that it would be amusing to have an entire flock of them following me and my heroes. However, when I come out of Sifhalla the moas are never there unless I am the only person in my party, no heroes, no henchmen. Is this just my weird luck or are they only supposed to spawn when you are alone? For that matter, has anyone else had any luck charming one with a hero? Thefount 16:45, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Weird luck. Foo 18:58, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks. I was kind of hoping that would be the case, so that I will hopefully be able to have heroes with white moas. Thefount 19:23, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- My Pyre used to have 1, u just need to keep rezoning until they appear. Oh and a suggestion, give your hero a speed boost skill to cap it, it would make your life easier ;) --MageMontu 19:29, 25 March 2008 (UTC)
- Thanks for the tips guys. After quite a bit of zoning and rezoning, I managed to charm one with three different heroes. Thefount 01:46, 26 March 2008 (UTC)
- It's definatly just waaaaaaaay more common by yourself. First try I got it. Also, just thought of an easier way, just put it in the zaishen menagerie, and get your heroes to tame it there.

1. Go to Zaishen Menagerie in Battle Isles.
2. Enter.
3. Talk to tamer over at the buildings to the right of the enterance.
4. "I'd like you to look at my pet."
5. She'll add your pet if you don't already have it in your menagerie at that lvl (5, 12, 15 or 20).
6. Tame them with your heroes either with Wynn (evolved) OR speak to a handler, choose Tyria and pick 'white moa bird' for directions (unevolved).
Simple as pie if you know what you're doing. DON'T do it with other tamers outside of your menagerie. It won't happen. 100% chance of spawn.Eryops3 01:51, 3 January 2010 (UTC)
Worthy Deeds (quest) - is this a prerequisite?[edit]
Okay, I charmed one of these quite a while ago with one of my warrior's heroes. I remember getting the mob outside Sifhalla to spawn without a problem (second or third zone if not the first). Tonight I wanted to charm one with another character and I must have zoned 50 times if not more, no exaggeration. At one point I grabbed my warrior, popped out there ONE time and they were there. I then tried some more with the other character with no luck. For the 'fun' of it I decided to try completing quests in the zone that I hadn't yet. I just needed to defeat Nulfastu to complete Worth Deeds so I did that and mapped back to Sifhalla. First zone out and the Moa were there!! I'm guessing that somebody will say it's just a coincidence. It would seem to tell me otherwise when I get them in one try with my warrior that had Worthy Deeds done and one try with the other after completing it when I'd tried several dozen times beforehand with no luck. It's too late for me to test with other chars, but I may another time. If there's absolute proof that Worthy Deeds need not be done, at least reading this may give some having problems something to try. /shrug Clobimon Craiggy 06:10, 15 April 2008 (UTC)

- They may not spawn if you have worthy deeds active, I saw a flock of them ONCE ages ago and then almost every time I came out of sifhalla I had drakkar lake quests active and, coincidentally or not, never saw any. Today I didn't and decided to try rezoning until I could tame one with a hero (worked fine btw) and they were there on the first deliberate try! (Just lucky I guess) Naomi Anara 18:16, 15 September 2010 (UTC) Edit: for what it's worth, I only had myself and my 3 heroes when I went to tame, and not my usual party of 7 (3 hench if I'm soloing) or 8 (if I'm playing with my friend, me and her and our heroes each)

About capturing it[edit]
I tried maybe 12 times witha full party and didnt see them but alone i found the flock on my 6th try
- I went outside 4 times to capture mine today(7-28-09).i guess its luck^.^- Icyyy Blue
- 1st try. It's more common if you're by yourself.
- Took me about 5 tries on my E/R with a full party of heroes and hench. DAMN those things run fast. Had to use Windborne Speed to catch up to the flock. -MK
good luck[edit]
i went out about 10 times just to see how my luck was..evrytime i went out there wuz a flock of white Moas and i luv it..named mine Beaker, and btw i found em outside Sifhalla NightBringr
- I found mine in Sifhalla the 4th time and then they started coming out everytime I went out^.^ im lucky- Icyyy Blue
Evolution bug[edit]
Followed all teh tips possible on evolving my white moa into dire; she took no damage from start to finish, i had 16 BM, i delt no damage, and she delt 100% of the damage (which was alot). I end up with a Hearty white moa. very dissapointing, i guess ill have to try another pet. NalanaTalk 00:17, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- Try with deathleveling next time. A hero on hold with only a non-percentage rez active should be all you need for it.--Fighterdoken 00:29, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- I've mastered deathleveling on the lions, i can get them to level twenty dire in circa 25 minutes, so tonight I'm going to test whether or not it is possible to DL white moas, and whether I can DL more than one at once. Ill post my findings later. NalanaTalk 21:09, 23 July 2008 (UTC)
- White Moa can't be death leveled since they never turn aggresive when you are capping them and just run off. I used the same evolution process that I used to get a dire phoenix but now my moa is level 11 playful. The white moa took no damage and dealt all the damage but still turned playful. Removed the note about their size[edit]
There was a note that falsely stated this type of moa bird is larger than the regular one. This isn't the case. A level 20 hearty white moa is the exact same size as a level 20 hearty moa bird. I've removed the note. --Adul 07:59, 25 April 2009 (UTC)
Movement from Sifhalla[edit]
Well, I was heading out from Sifhalla to do Worthy Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap) on my sin, and there was a flock of white moas right outside. So, I decided to follow them. I used a blue rock candy, and I stayed with the group the entire time. They exited through the portal to Norrhart Domains. I didn't know whether or not anyone had actually followed them and found out where they go, and I thought this was interesting, so here ya go. Zajadu 16:56, 17 May 2009 (UTC)
- I followed the group from outside Olafstead, and they went this time into Drakkar Lake. I didn't get a screenshot, because I accidentally followed them through the portal. On that note, they do not appear in the next explorable area when you follow them. xD Zajadu 17:12, 17 May 2009 (UTC)

Albinos[edit]
This reminds me of the albino crocodilia / crocodile, of which only 30 exist. It's just how the flock is rare and the color that reminds me of this. Eryops3 18:17, 28 May 2009 (UTC)

Spawn in Verdant Cascades[edit]
A while back, I remember seeing a flock in Verdant Cascades, in the middle of where the Leadfoot Race takes place. I didn't think to take a screen at the time, but hopefully someone else can confirm this. --Wai Fung 00:14, 21 August 2009 (UTC) Edit: these are regular moas. can plvl =P[edit]
i caped a white moa put in menagerie and plved it...3 sup runes and a vamp weapon for degen so i would die and after a while i got me a lvl 20 white moa =D
- It's true. I death leveled the white moas in the menagerie by equipping a vampiric weapon and just standing there until I died. [Rather than mess with runes, I just let it take a while and set Tahlkora with the Paragon Signet of Return. With 0 attribute points and 2 party members, SoR rezzes with 10% of your hit points, so once death penalty accrues you're coming back with less than 10 hp and the weapon kills you in about 5 seconds; handy, as that's the signet's recharge time. I just give her Rez Chant (disabled) for when I'm done.] It actually took quite a long while to get the birds up to 20 as I was deathleveling both of the birds at the same time. I accidentally attacked one at the beginning so I decided to see if they evolved differently. After they were up to around 11th level, and didn't show signs of evolving, I attacked the one I had before and inflicted about 2/3 of its health bar, then I backed off and let things keep going. They both remained White Moas until level 20, when I charmed the one I'd attacked, it became a Hearty White Moa -- and so did the other one. There is a small possibility I got the two confused and inflicted damage on both, but I don't think I did. Looking at the evolution bug notes above, this seems to bear out. They naturally only evolve Hearty. However, after turning it in to the keepers it unlocked level 20 evolved white moa, so I now have a Dire White Moa.--Alessar 15:04, 28 September 2009 (UTC)
Hard Mode[edit]
Does HM make a difference? After about 25-30 solo attempts, I switched to HM and third time is a charm! -- Dead Monk Walkin I --The preceding unsigned comment was added by 98.18.136.33 (talk).
- That could well be true. I've been in Drakkar Lake many times in NM and never seen White Moa. About the 4th time in HM they where there (and i was with a full H/H team). 83.163.223.50 12:11, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
- It's just luck. I usually see them once in every seven times I leave near where they spawn. HM has nothing to do with it, even if it did it would be impossible to verify. 122.105.106.192 13:13, 26 July 2010 (UTC)
Death Leveling[edit]
Why would anyone try to death level an entire flock of them? Death leveling (outside the menagerie) is only useful in pre-searing, if I know my guild warz. If no one objects, I'll be removing the irrelevant note. Tearh 02:04, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
- Seems like you really don't know your Guild Wars then. Death leveling is also a very common method to obtain a pet with level 20 instead of the normal 5. It is faster than leveling it after capturing the pet. Put the note back..
Trouble capping[edit]
Anyone else have trouble capping recently? I've zoned in and out many times, but not a single success. Tearh 00:27, 20 January 2010 (UTC)
call me lucky[edit]
So I got the idea of capping this animal. I went to Olafstead and voala, they spawned the first try (went HM and ALONE). I've vanquished Varajar Fells a couple of times but they never spawned before.
Pattern to spawning (research request)[edit]
I've exited the SW portal over 40 times without seeing a flock. A friend tested 20 times with same results. (We both tried h/h, with other players, and solo.) Both of us have found them after exiting from NW portal (not every time, of course). 0/40 (SW) vs 1/6 (NW) suggests that this isn't random. Could other people report their results here? If it's not the choice of portals, what is it? I'm hoping that we can spot a pattern. Thanks. — Tennessee Ernie Ford (TEF) 20:54, 17 October 2010 (UTC)
- has anyone paid any attention to whether or not spawn increases when charm animal skill is equipped (either on player or heroes in party) I know when I went to find one they were there almost right away ( was month or two ago, don't remember details) when I went out with a hero with charm animal..whereas before that I had exited plenty of times for various quests or errands, etc and not seen them almost since I started playing in eotn.
