Summer Bullrush 2008!

Summer Bullrush 2008[edit]

Summer Bullrush 2008 is a free PvP group challenge sport weekend taking place in August 2008.

Catered and Hosted by: Summer Bullrush 2008 will be coordinated by User Angel 1.pngBunny in association with The Guilds of [KISS] and Guild Wars Auctions.

Where & When: The event will take place over the weekend of the 16th and 17th of August 2008 within the Luxon [KISS] Alliance.

Cost: Entry is completely free of charge, however the event will take place in a guild hall, so donations toward Guest Invitations are welcome if you are from outside the [KISS] alliance.

Requirements: Players may enter the competition as many times as they like, using PvE or PvP based characters. You do not need to be a member of the [KISS] Alliances to take part, we have restructured ourselves to make room for as many Guild Guests as possible over the course of the weekend. Please see the schedule below for specific times and the names of event staff you should contact.

Prizes[edit]

  • Grand Total of 420 platinum in prizes - Prizes for this event total 420 platinum in gold.
  • Each of the 5 winners will receive 40 platinum in gold.
  • An additional fund of 220 platinum will be contributed towards discretional prizes awarded for good sportsmanship throughout the course of the event.
  • Players should keep in mind that by competing in a sporting and friendly manner, they have as much chance of taking away a substantial prize as the winning team.

What is Bullrush?[edit]

The game Bullrush is a real life game often played in schools, similar to the game called British Bulldogs.

In short, Bullrush is a game whereby a group of individuals attempt to rush from one side of a playing field to another without being tackled to the ground by participants who have previously been tackled. The game has been banned from many schools around the world due to it's high level of violence and physicality (in the Irish version they actually pick people up and throw them!). But don't worry! The only thing you can hurt in Guild Wars is your pride ;)

Summer Bullrush 2008!

How does this event work?[edit]

  • Players will be escorted in teams of five into a scrimmage battle in the Frozen Isle (i.e. 5 players and 1 judge).
  • Each team will be escorted by a judge, who will remain inside the base for the duration of the game.
  • The object of the game is to be the first team to successfully bring their team Flag to the entrance of the Guild Lord's room.
  • The judge of the opposing team will be standing at the point where your teams flag runner needs to drop the flag.
  • Players can either focus on destroying the enemy team, slowing down or killing the enemy flag carrier, or simply out running the enemy.
  • The winning team at the end of the weekend will be determined by the team who won their battle within the fastest time overall during the entire weekend.
  • Prizes will also be awarded for teamplay, tactics, and general good sportsmanship.

How do players enter?[edit]

  • Entry into the Summer Bullrush 2008 event is free of charge.
  • Players outside the Luxon [KISS] Alliance can gain entry to the event by contacting one of the organisers listed below at the required time.
  • Members of the Luxon [KISS] Alliance will have automatic access to the battle guild hall chosen for the event. Simply be online at the required time and you can take part.
  • Entrants will be put into random teams of 5 by the organisers at the time, however if you would prefer to choose your own team mates and form a strategy, you are welcome to do so.
  • Once a team is formed, players will be given a minimum of 10 minutes to prepare builds and form a strategy before the scrimmage will commence.
  • Players can play Bullrush as many times as they want, in as many different teams as they want.
  • Players can change character or profession as many times as they like throughout the event.

Tactics & Planning[edit]

  • The Frozen Isle is a split-tactics favored map. Teams can send a split-team towards the opponents base through the western path.
  • Remember only one person needs to make it to the other side carrying the flag, so distraction tactics may be your best advantage in this arena.
  • Players should note that the Eastern path crosses the ice, which means the Icy Ground environmental effect comes into play when a player stops moving on the ice.
  • Don't underestimate your enemy and the tactics they may choose to use.
  • Plan for all eventualities and take the time allotted before your battle begins to set a strategy within your team.
  • Choose a strategy, either focus on killing the enemy then walking to their base, or focus on slowing them down while your runner gets through.
  • Remember the enemy has to make it to your base gate alive, carrying their flag, in order to beat you, so trapping skills may come in handy.
  • Remember there is no Guild Thief in the Frozen Isle, in order to open or close gates players must take control of the Gate Locks on the center platform.
  • If you do not take control of the Gate Locks quick enough, your Flag Runner may not be able to enter the enemy base and deliver the flag to the Guild Lord room.
  • The alternative to gaining access to the Guild Lord room, if the main gates are closed, is to follow the eastern path over the ice.

Above all: Remember to have fun! Winning Bullrush often comes down to luck, so just get stuck in and remember to enjoy yourself along the way :)

Guild Battle Changes[edit]

The Game Update on 7 August 2008 saw the following changes to scrimmage and GvG matches, which will impact the event:

Tips for builds[edit]

  • Don't underestimate monk support, self healing, and hex removal.
  • The battles will take place in a scrimmage PvP environment, so remember no PvE only skills will work (i.e. any skills associated with a title track).
  • Players should also not that they will be "under the effects of PvP" so some skills may work differently to how they work in PvE.
  • A list of PvP builds with a 'Great' rating, as vetted and approved by the PvXwiki community, can be found here.

Rules & Additional Information[edit]

1. Players may not re-enter their base once they have left it, unless they are killed and resurrected there.
2. Players are not allowed to remain within their base for the duration of the Bullrush race (i.e. to let the other team win).
3. Failure to listen to judges will result in disqualification from current and future games.
4. The judges will not enter into any discussions with regard to "lag" or other related issues.
5. The judges decision is final.
6. The winner of the Bullrush race will be determined by the first person to bring their team flag to the foot of the enemy gate.
7. You may not pick up your opponents flag. Doing so will result in a 30 second penalty to be added to your teams finish time, if you win.
8. Judges may not equip weapons or skills during the race or leave the base.
9. Judges will be required to stand immediately in front of the Guild Lord to ensure the enemy team's flag-carrier can be clearly seen.
10. Judges will be required to shout in local chat once the race is over and record the finishing Time of the battle, including team member names, via screen cap.
11. The winning team will be announced after the final battle has finished on Sunday 17 August 2008.
12. If winners are not online at the time winners are announced, they will be contacted in game during the week following the event.
13. By entering the competition, winners give their inherent consent to have their in-game-name published as a winner of the games on this wiki page.
14. Players should NOT enter the games on a character that is going for Legendary Survivor, it is almost a certainty you will be killed during the race.
15. Players are expected to conduct themselves in a sporting and non-offensive manner before, during, and after their race.
16. Spectators will not be permitted to accompany other players into the scrimmage arena.
17. In the event of a tie, the judges will arrange a tie-breaker race on Sunday the 17th of August, between the players on each of the tied teams.
18. If one or more players of a tie-breaker team is unavailable at the time of the race, substitutes will be required.
19. If more than 2 players of the original team in a tie-breaker final are not available at the time of the race, the opposing team may choose to take a default win.
20. Players may not attack the enemy flag-runner from within their base (i.e. camping inside the gate waiting for them to approach) it is considered unsporting to do so.
21. Players may take/use any friendly NPC's from within their base to assist their team throughout the race.
22. Judges may not interfere with the race at any time. Specifically, healing the Flag Runner as he/she approaches is not permitted.
23. Once a team is formed, players will be given a minimum of 10 minutes to prepare builds decide on team strategy before the scrimmage will commence.

Saturday Races[edit]

Comments from BunnyUser Angel 1.png
I was so very impressed with how the races took place on Saturday. My goodness it got busy toward the end when people really started fine tuning their strategy and inviting other friends along for the fun. I think I was almost run off my feet with whisps for guest invitations, my keyboard took quite a beating! With approximately 22 battles (that's 44 teams) taking place yesterday within 4 hours, our judges were kept busy when the players started flowing in, which was so fantastic to see. I certainly think the judges training sessions on Tuesday/Wednesday this week have paid off, our judges have it down to a fine art and were completely on the ball coordinating their scrimmages on ventrilo.
It was so nice to hear people's positive feedback and see everyone having such a good time. Players were behaving so nice toward each other it was a great atmosphere in the event guild hall. After some very interesting battles on Saturday, the current best times and winning team(s) are listed below on the Saturday leader board. There is currently a tie for first place with a fastest time of 0:49 seconds, so we may see some tie breakers on Sunday afternoon if the time isn't beaten. Good luck on Sunday everyone, and may the best team win!

Sunday Races[edit]

Comments from BunnyUser Angel 1.png
Holy mother of Grenth...if I thought yesterday was busy, nothing prepared me for today. I wish I could tell you how many battles we ran today, but the truth is we lost count at 70 battles (that's 140 teams!). I think it's safe to say the event was a success lol. The amount of people who played today was just fantastic, and I'm so pleased that people started really getting tricky about their strategy and tactics. I saw some very impressive strategies today (some I will even write down for GvG in future!).
The winning team overall for the weekend is on the Sunday Leaderboard below with a time of 0:48 seconds! It was actually somewhere between 0:47 and 0:48 seconds, to be fair, so it was a clear win over yesterday's leading times. Congratulations to everyone in the winning team and to everyone who received sportsmanship prizes today, and thank you to everyone who participated!

Thank You[edit]

On behalf of myself and the other event staff, I would like to personally thank all of you who took part in the Summer Bullrush 2008 event. This event would not have been such an amazing success without such outstanding participation from everyone over the past two days. This is the first time I have run a community PvP event, so I could not have imagined how much fun it would be!

In no particular order, I also would like to offer special thanks to the following people who helped me throughout the event. If it weren't for their dedication, patience, and hard work the success of the past two days would not have been possible.

  • Possum - Event Manager and Bunny Crew supporter - I couldn't have done this without you helping to keep me sane (and yes, that is quite a job!).
  • Wolfie - Event Marketeing Manager and event sponsor - thank you so much for all the awesome advertising on Blade Radio and for your kind donation toward the event prize purse.
  • Il S U P E R F L Y Il - [KISS] alliance leader and event sponsor - for again trusting me to run an event without pickling our good name, and for being so generous donating toward the event prizes.
  • Blackblood - Event Manager and Bunny Crew supporter - thank you for stepping in and taking this on, your judging was a huge help on Sunday.
  • Pepper - Event Judge and sponsor - thank you for working so diligently throughout the event and for your kind donation. I think it's safe to say you judged the most battles out of anyone!
  • Event Judges - Chfan, Mike, Jonny, Blackblood, Badger, and Laroth - without you guys, this event would simply not have been possible.
