Scourge of Tyria
Ashes Of Doom was to be the savior of Ascalon. Have you heard of the arcane skills Verata's Aura, Verata's Sacrifice, and Verata's Gaze? Well, they were created by a rogue necromancer who has now become famous across three continents. What people don't know is that Verata had a fourth horrific creation. When working in his hidden dungeon in the Ascalon Foothills one day, Verata decided to create a superweapon, a minion beyond all minions. He would be hailed as the savior of Ascalon, setting them free from the Charr. He sent for ingredients from all the continents of Tyria. A vial of the blood of Shiro, the famous assassin from Cantha. A root from the depths of the Maguuma jungle. A small bottle of the sulfurous gas from the Elonian desolation. A piece of amber, a piece of jade. A ruby from Vabbi, a box of sand from Kourna, a shard of corrupted stone from Faranur on Istan. He carefully combined these ingredients, heated with the flame of a captured hydra. Finally, he added a large chunk of Charr flesh. Throughout the night he chanted, before completing the spell, taken from a book smuggled out of Orr. Finally, he collapsed from exhaustion. When he awoke, his cave was in ruins. There was a huge scorch mark on the floor, and a sickly green glow was visible to the east. Cautiously, he ventured out of the remains of his lair. There was a 10 foot high pile of Charr corpses glowing not far down the hill. Something had taken them by surprise and slaughtered them. His creation had saved his life. But where was it? Verata looked carefully around, but saw nothing. Suddenly, something grey and skinny darted out from behind a rock and ran off down the hill at an incredible speed. Verata never saw it again, though he would hear of it many years later, as it changed the fate of continents. He considers it his greatest achievement, though he has told no one. |
