My story[edit]

Shing Jae was always a quiet place. The ever increasing dictatorship of the Canthan rulers hardly had any effect on the island. Everything here belonged to the Church; the monumental, spacious buildings of the Monastery represented authority – a power, far less hard-handed than the Canthan court.

The people of Shing Jea Island lived a happy, quite life under the care of the fraters. They never even thought about that everything they knew would soon change forever.

I never knew my parents. I was raised by the fraters in the Monastery and studied in school with the children of the more well-off peasants who had enough wealth to give to the Church and could get their offsprings to learn more than they had and hoped that their children could be more than just humble farmers. “You may as well be a clerk near one of the ministers, child”, they said. How pathetic…

I cannot really recall the first few years of my life. It is said that on the evening I was found at the Monastery gate, it was such a harsh blizzard that none of the eldest had ever seen on the islands. I was wrapped in such a large swaddle that I did not even realized the terrible weather, they say. My parents at least did everything to deliver me safe and sound…

I liked my teachers in the Monastery, but the one I would call my favorite was Master Togo. No wonder that I chose to be a ritualist as I wanted to be as strong and as patient as he was. I will never forget the day when I was chosen as one of his students, one of those that escorted him on his diplomatic voyage. I traveled with him throughout all of Cantha in the search of Shiro Tagachi, the betrayer and cause of the Jade Wind we had heard so much about in the islands, but had never before seen the territories of the Empire it had affected. And I was one of those close students who saw Master Togo die.

I had never lost a close friend before. And Master Togo was not only my friend, but my mentor as well. I felt all alone again; that very same solitude I had felt before I became his student.

I traveled to the mainland of Tyria, all through Elona and killed many foes, liberated many people, but I could not find peace. I am still looking…
