User:Vega Underdark/Talk Archive May 2007
Hi - I couldn't help but notice that everything you've done on the wiki so far has been copied from guildwiki. Please don't do that - the licenses on The Official Guild Wars Wiki and Guildwiki are different and incompatible. Information gleaned from the "other" wiki is not copyrightable, so please feel free to re-submit the information in your own words :) see GWW:WELCOME for further advice. --Snograt 15:17, 1 May 2007 (EDT)

Guild Wars Wiki policy violations[edit]
Please read through GWW:USER. Your main user page uses far too many images as their total size goes far over the allowed total. Your main user page is also far too long. Also, all your uploaded images of your characters are wrongly named. They should start with the word 'User', then followed by your user name and then by the other stuff. For example File:User Vega Underdark Monk.jpg would be ok. If you ahve any questions related to these violations feel free to ask me here or on my talk page. -- (gem / talk) 07:33, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
-- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 09:57, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
Do not blank your user talk page. It is also forbidden by the user page policy. If you continue to violate against the policies, I am forced to ban you for a few days. -- (gem / talk) 12:08, 2 May 2007 (EDT)
My Comment[edit]
lol screw this, i've seen people with MUCH bigger user pages then my own, further i'm using pictures from wiki itself, the pictures that i uploaded are all jpg's and arrent that big AT ALL, the ban you put on me is useless becosue i can still do all the thigns that i could before, plus you really think its wise to throw with bans right from the get go? i mean the other wiki is still online, could go there if i'm not welcome here. the images i had earlier that i should change the name, sure, no problem, i can understand why you want that, maybe for a database or something, i dont know, dont care, but i changed the names of the pictures.
honestly, if this is the policy that the so called ""official"" wiki runs through, then screw it i'll stay on the old UNofficial one.
- Please sign your comments with ~~~~, secondly where are these "MUCH bigger user pages"? And no one said you weren't welcome, everyone is welcome on this wiki. -- Scourge 09:44, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- EDIT: I think what Gem was trying to say was "If you continue to violate the policies, I will be forced to ban you for a few days.", no one has banned you and if you follow the rules I don't see why they would ban you -- Scourge 09:46, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- If you think that userpages that are as big as yours are effective, think again. There is a policy on it, follow it or don't come here. And you will get a ban simply by continuing to IGNORING comments made by admins. Even on gwiki, this will be considered reason for banning. (Did you happen to notice that Gem is also an admin on guildwiki?) What you did with the pictures is excellent, you changed the names, and they were the right size, too bad you are not willing to adhere to the other parts of the userpage-policy. And another thing: there is absolutely no reason to be so hostile, your input IS appreciated, as long as it doesn't violate copyrights. But if you feel that you are better of at the other wiki, doei! -- CoRrRan (CoRrRan / talk) 09:49, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- Per the logs you have not been banned as of this time. However, your user page is in violation of policy. The simplest solution is to put most of your character information into one or more sub-pages. This eliminates the long main user page, while still allowing all of the content. Your current primary user page is slow to open due to its size and use of a large quantity of images, and that's on a cable modem. The policy is worded as it is specifically to allow users on dial-up or connecting from their work place to not be trapped by large downloads when they follow a link to a user page. Subpages of the user pages can be longer; but the main user page should be kept within the confines of the policy to make the site more accessable to all users regardless of their connection.
- I highly recommend that you correct the policy violation. The result of ignoring them can be having the page fixed for you and/or other administrative action being taken. --- Barek (talk • contribs) - 11:08, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
- I suggest creating one or more sub pages for your in game character stuff. The skill images and character images make a really big total for downloadable images when a user opens your user page which makes it unaccessible for dial-up users and others iwth a slow connection. -- (gem / talk) 15:22, 3 May 2007 (EDT)
Vega Underdark 17:51, 6 May 2007 (EDT)Sorry for my outburst the other day, was just annoyed by the ammount of work i had put into it and then risking to lose it all, after concideration i changed it and thus hoping to have cleared this problem.
- Much better! And take a look at some other user's userpages, User:Emily Diehl for example, how they solved the problem of getting too large main-userpages. And there are a lot of other people with good examples of how to solve this. -- (CoRrRan / talk) 02:57, 7 May 2007 (EDT)
- Just one thing (sorry), but your character pages should be in your userspace, not in the main. So, for example, Vega Underdark should be moved to User:Vega Underdark/Vega Underdark or similar. There may some day be an NPC with your name, and we don't want them to clash. :) There is a small "move" tab at the top of your pages, which makes it really easy to move them to your userspace. Thank you. - Anja (talk) 03:08, 7 May 2007 (EDT)
Vega Underdark 10:55, 8 May 2007 (EDT)thanks for moving then for me gem =)
- No problem. :) Little hints: Put the signature at the end of your post, not the beginning. It's easier to see what post is whose when all signatures are at the same place. And when replying to someone on a talk page, you can indent your message by adding one ormore colos in front of the message just like the others do on this talk page. Just hit the edit button and see how we do it. :) -- (gem / talk) 12:13, 8 May 2007 (EDT)
minor edit[edit]
Hey Vega, when editing your user page could you please tick the minor edit button :) thanks! --Lemming64 00:08, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Heya, ermm, what do you mean with "tick the minor edit button" or are you guy's getting allot of "there has been a change" logs or something? Vega Underdark 00:26, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- By the save changes button there is a tick box which says - this is a minor edit - it is common courtesy to always use this when doing your user page so as it can be easily be removed when monitoring recent changes. :) --Lemming64 01:49, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
- Ahh gotcha, by bad. Thanks Vega Underdark 01:53, 24 May 2007 (UTC)
Images, the 2nd[edit]
Hi, I would like to remind you that user images have to be tagged with {{user image}}. Please add this to all your previously uploaded pictures in the userspace. Thanks. Der moon 16:47, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- ermm dude??? what are you talking about, i have that on all my uploaded pictures. Vega Underdark 17:25, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- Well, you might check that again as I don't see even one picture tagged with {{user image}}. Der moon 17:30, 30 May 2007 (UTC)
- dude, your pictures are like this "Image:User_Der_moon_sig.png" mine are like this "Image:User_Vega_Underdark_EwE.jpg" the only difference is that you put "sig" behind it and i put "EwE" behind mine, no difference, thus if i'm misnaming my pictures you better check your own too becouse then you made the same mistake, this was also adressed to me before and i changed them back then to what i got now, after that nobody of the admins told me that it was wrong this way. If your gonna tell someone they did something wrong go look if you did it right yourself first.
the end. Vega Underdark 07:29, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- You have completly missunderstood me. The naming of your images is perfectly OK. I was just refering to the tag {{user image}}, that has to be placed in the comment of pictures that belong to userpages. You can add this by clicking on the picture, click edit, insert {{user image}} and finally click "save page". That's all. By doing this, your picture is categorized as user image and therefor will be recognized as being in the correct namespace. Using this link, you will find all images contributed by you. It's a work of less than 5 minutes and all your images will comply to the policy. Sorry for my previous post not being that clear in that point - I don't want to be annoying. I hope this is now sorted out. Der moon 13:08, 31 May 2007 (UTC)
- Now i got what you meant, thanks, changed it on all my pics. again thx moon Vega Underdark 14:44, 2 June 2007 (UTC)
