tagging wrong named images

I should possibly better write this elsewhere, but i noticed that you are tagging many of the wrong named user images, so i come up with this idea on your talk: What would you think about new user getting a warning message in the first 24 hours after account creation when uploading images in general that are not in their user or guild namespace, similar to the warning you get if uploading once deleted or already existing images, getting a message like:

Warning: Are you uploading a user image? If this is the case, check GWW:USER.
You may want to upload your image as [[Image:User <user name> <image name>.<type>]] instead."

I think that would be quite useful, as i noticed that the first thing most new users tend to do is uploading images of their characters. —ZerphaThe Improver 16:43, 1 July 2008 (UTC)

delete old revision

If your still on can you delete the old revision on this image, its one of those images that refuses to update :P, *edit* this one is having problems to on other pages and wont update. Fall 22:56, 14 July 2008 (UTC)

I'm not quite sure what you mean Dom? If you are referring to all the image version reverting that happened a year ago between Bob and Santax I don't see a real need in deleting them. If they were causing the image to not update on various pages; as the ones above were doing; then it would be different but since all pages are using the most recent version it's not really necessary. Also the only way you'd notice them is by actually going to the image page which isn't something someone would normally do on a regular basis. --Kakarot 19:38, 19 July 2008 (UTC)

Done, done and done :) Although there has to be an easier way than just deleting revisions, if you find another try re-uploading the newest version again mentioning the problem in the summary - something like "Reuploading version as of <date> by <username> due to refusing to update" would work. (Edit conflict) Even though the issues have been fixed, comments can't be removed from talk pages under normal circumstances. It may seem a bit odd but they are normally kept for reference purposes. Ok it is done :) The reason it wasn't deleted as originally tagged was because Dominator reuploaded a new version; without the Windows interface which was the original reason for copyvio; before the copyvio was deleted. At the time I wasn't sure whether we just delete the original revision or not since I hadn't come across the issue of someone reuploading before it was deleted before. While asking Brains about the image yesterday I noticed that it included the picture of Sauran that was also recently deleted for copyvio so that nullified the problem completely as it was on all image revisions. If you mean that you couldn't save or anything without the page timing out (or whatever it's called) then yes. While I was working on the headgear, particularly the Paragon one I just couldn't save at all and yet I could go to the page and the history just fine. Eventually after maybe 5+ tries I just gave up and went to bed, although it seems to have gone through eventually. It might have something to do with the wiki bug Wyn reported but that seems to have got archived without comment although she brought it up again shortly after the archive on Emily's page (permament link) / (regular link). --Kakarot 12:50, 3 August 2008 (UTC)

Unanswered section

Hey Kakarot, while archiving I just noticed this section on my talk page which I didn't reply to. So here is the answer:
I'm not sure atm as I would need a example but I think it is simply because the skill-box <profession> combination requires the element to be a div. Also it adds - because of the skill-box - some other styles which are for most other things redundant and confusing. So we added a profession-bg <profession> class a while ago so you can set the background manually on any element without having the other styles from the skill box apply. Yeah I sortof figured out the part regarding using a div on my own and updated my character template and although that caused issues with the : * 1st Year: sections I just changed to a better looking way of doing the same thing. The two main things I was looking for when I left you that message was a possible fix; which you've provided; and also to find out if you had any idea why it worked for so long and then just stopped even though I; nor as far as I could tell anyone else; changed nothing. I might try using that profession-bg code you mentioned instead, thanks for the reply even though it was a bit late it still confirmed my change to using a div was indeed correct. --Kakarot 21:49, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Wolf's Greed

Does this really need another image? My personal thoughts are to stay with the image of the Wolfs Favor, considering they share the same skin. Wouldnt the second needed image just be redundant? -- Wandering Traveler 05:22, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

I'm a bit confused about what you mean WT, if you are referring to my recent edit to the page the only thing I did was to remove the image needed template since it looks like it has an image now; albeit a shared image; (at the time I was making one of my maintenance runs through the image/map needed categories that I do whenever I have the time). --Kakarot 11:28, 8 August 2008 (UTC)

Abuse

Hi, there is a user that I find is abusing the candidate for deletion feature for pages. Backsword<- the user name of the guy, Swearing as I try to defend my page in the GW2 Skill Suggestion page (Blood Connection) talk page. Is he allowed to go free like this??? Plz reply immediatly on my talk page. Aswell as there are 4 other pages that i know of that are up for the same deletion cause which is rediculous(the cause). For someone who doesn't RC patrol or have lots of articles watched, that may very well count as a spree. Instead of making snide remarks, educate him in what a spree would entail, and why you've put deletion tags on those pages (and how you're entitled to). Ah right, well that was just minor fixes. Also while you are here did you know about the show preview button located right next to the save one? Probably the main problem is that I'm not "supposed" to install anything on this computer without permission since it's not just my computer. I originally planned on getting my own a while back; think it was around June or July; which would have solved part of the problem but due to a sudden decrease in hours at work (something that ended up only being temporary luckily) I had to end up pushing that back a few months which was then pushed back even further due to a previously planned holiday. I do have a possible IRC client; albeit in the form of a game; but after testing just having the game loaded made Firefox perform quite slow and it doesn't appear to be just a temporary thing either since I didn't do anything else other than go straight to the IRC screen. I know quite a few uses Chatzilla. I don't know if that counts as installing something :) Me, poke and I think some other people use X-Chat - Silverex version, but that is a standalone program that needs to be installed, like the standard program mIRC. GameSurge also has a browser based java client, which can be used without installing anything (unless you don't have Java, but that would be unusual). And, lastly, w:Comparison of Internet Relay Chat clients on Wikipedia is a lot more extensive than this short summary ;) - anja 14:51, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Thanks Plingggggg, while the link Poke provided is in some ways better as I wouldn't have to get anything I always get an error message whenever I try to use that method; either by going to the GameSurge chat Anja provided or using Poke's link: "The application's digital signature has an error". Based on the more info link it appears that the digital signature has expired, it also mentions that the application will be run without the security restrictions normally provided by Java so I'll probably just get one of the ones mentioned above. --Kakarot 17:05, 4 September 2008 (UTC)

Yeah it's a common mistake people make when first starting to wiki; since you uploaded those two images within the first few days. However one thing I normally do; something that for some reason I completely forgot this time; was to leave a message on your talk page to let you know about the image tagging.
