The ice boulders look a lot like gigantic snow balls that roll at you during the mission Service: In Defense of the Eye, which is set by Artificer Mullenix. They kill anyone they touch (including the centaurs), but don't cause death penalty. They are not too hard to spot (they are gigantic ice balls after all) so avoiding them is simple enough. During this mission they will come from the left and right of the ramp leading into the Eye of the North so if you stay on the ramp the ice ball help more than hinder you.

Ice Boulders can also be found in the Secret Lair of the Snowmen and near Whiteout in Jaga Moraine.
