[edit] Conflicting Information
The article states the following 3 things, which cannot all be true:
- Spell range is slightly larger (×1.2) than the Danger Zone.
- Shortbows and spears have the same range as spells on flat ground.
- Hornbows and recurve bows have a range of about 1.2 times the Danger Zone on flat ground.
Since we know that Shortbows (and spears maybe?) have range shorter than recurve bows (according to the Bows page), and theres three statements would put them all at equal range.
I'm not certain which one is wrong, my initial thought is that spells are really more like x1.0 the Aggro Bubble, but since I'm not at home I can't check easily. Thoughts? Ooom 23:18, 14 February 2008 (UTC)
I agree, I've never been able to cast a spell on someone outside of my aggro bubble.
- Spell range is definitely larger than the aggro bubble, as I've tested it numerous times to prove to unbelieving friends. Unless I'm mistaken shortbows and spears use earshot, which is almost, if not exactly, the range of the aggro bubble. 98.192.38.51 18:15, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
- I finally got some time (and motivation) to actually run the experiment. My results is that there seem to be essentially three range distances:
| Long Range | Medium Range | Short Range |
|---|---|---|
| Longbow | Hornbow | Shortbow |
| Flatbow | Recurve
| Spear |
| Spell | ||
Ranger Spirit
| Staff |
- Note that my method was essentially to walk straight back a ways, then attack the barrel forcing the character to run forward until in range. So the disambiguation for me is that spells have the same range as staffs, hornbows and recurves - not shortbows and spears. I will change the range page to reflect this. - When you attack/cast from out of range, you'll run in a little closer to the target than you need to. Just wanted to point that out since your ranges look a little short. You can take a step of two back to see how far you can go before you need to run up again. --Valshia 17:42, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Could be - I certainly didn't test that - it is clear however that there are three ranges - I suppose I could spend more time trying to find the exact right point given your comment - but I'm really too lazy. Ooom 17:51, 8 March 2008 (UTC)
- Hey Ooom, you made such a nice table I thought I'd add the range of the ranger spirits to it, hope you don't mind ^-^ - Byakko
