Echoes are skills that have an additional effect whenever a Shout takes effect or ends on an ally.

Skill type. An echo is a type of Paragon skill that provides a duration-limited benefit to a single non-spirit ally.

All echoes have effects closely dependent on the use of chants and shouts (with a duration) on the affected target, sometimes having no effect at all without these.

With the exception of Enduring Harmony and Soldier's Fury, echoes belong to one of two families :

  • Refrains have a continuous effect and renew themselves whenever a chant or shout ends on the affected target.
  • Finales have a limited duration and an instant effect triggered when a chant or shout ends on the affected target:

Notes[edit]

  • Only chants or shouts with a duration on the user do trigger echoes, since the chant/shout effect must actually end (i.e. appear and disappear from the Effects Monitor). Shouts that cause instant effects, for example "Never Give Up!", will not trigger echoes.
  • Echoes have an energy cost, an activation time, and an aftercast delay.
  • Echoes cannot be removed (ending only on expiration or death).

Maintaining Refrains[edit]

If trying to maintain Refrains during and between fights, the following skills are optimal depending on the targets that are affected by the Refrain.

  • Team members: "They're on Fire!" is the most practical and reliable skill as it:
    • is non-elite,
    • is a shout (so earshot range with no activation time and can be applied while running),
    • requires energy (and not adrenaline),
    • lasts and recharges in 10s (without modifiers), which is less than all Refrain's duration
    • has no restrictions on application (unlike skills such as "Never Surrender!").
    • Also sports a good protection effect.
  • User only: "Help Me!" or "To the Limit!" (with 8 or less Tactics) can be slightly more interesting than "They're on Fire!" due to their lower cost and alternative effect.
  • Allies (includes summons or minions, notably Flesh Golems): "Fall Back!" can be effective but is usually not enough on its own. Anthem of Weariness can be used instead to provide bar compression, but is not instant.

A chant or shout does not end if it is reapplied before it expires, so skills that increase their duration (i. e. Enduring Harmony and Vocal was Sogolon) can disrupt Refrains. Similarly, skills that reduce the recharge time of chants and shouts (such as Serpent's Quickness or Time Ward) must be played around carefully to avoid this issue.
