Candidates[edit]

I see we once again have a stellar list of candidates.... -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 02:09, 9 February 2010 (UTC)

I know, right...? — Jon User Jon Lupen Sig Image.png Lupen 02:11, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
I know you disagree, but personally I think it's much better than having, like, three candidates...even if those few are all highly qualified. Elections are "the more, the merrier" type events. It also provides a rare foothold for an average user to enter wiki politics, by focusing the community's attention on them for a few weeks. Although this is a problem with troll nominations (well, the ones that are bothered to accept/exist anyway), I think it is generally a good experience. Even if the candidate gets beaten down a bit, it's something to learn and grow from. (Besides that, who isn't mildly excited by the prospect of opinion polls and popularity contests? Always nice to know where you stand in the scheme of things!) Vili 点 User talk:Vili 02:20, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
That is coming from one who knows very little to nothing about b-crats or the roles they play, etc. You need to venture out a bit into more of the popular and well managed wikis to see how the b-crats do. Else your WoT up there would been better worded instead of the "oh this is fun, nothing important, just a popularity vote as no one does anything," which shows the lack of knowledge. Bcrats have to handle problems that most sysops can't handle on a day to day basis as well as other things, like handling sysops that become a problem that can't be handled by other sysops and has to be a "group" decision, of which is why we select whom we do. Better learn, before you speak next time. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 02:32, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Kaisha.. you really need to stick a sock in your mouth for awhile... Vili was the sole bcrat on GuildWiki for a long time and probably has a much better idea of the role of a bcrat and a sysop than you. Please stop making yourself look like a fool it's painful to watch. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 02:48, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
It's funny how you haven't even been around on GWW for a single election (I think), let alone an arbcomm or other actual chance to see bureaucrats at work, and yet you say with such certainty how the elections here are not a joke and the job actually has some importance. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 02:54, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
@Wyn, if you're talking of gww then I appologize, but I highly disagree to b-crat being a joke. Only way of that is if it wasn't done right, etc. I do know what I speak of. Most wikis are similar, if not the same. Not much difference, except the people. Kaisha User Kaisha Sig.png 05:31, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
I don't believe there is anything in Vili's statement that indicates a feeling of the b-crat role (or any admin role for that matter) as a joke. Yes, some of the current nominations are "joke" nominations, and yes, Vili has in the past submitted his share of those types (mostly when he was just stirring the pot here when GWiki got boring...), but in a lot of ways I do agree that giving your average user an opportunity to get involved in wiki politics can be a good thing, it's the best way to learn how it all works. The fact that the B-crats here on GWW have traditionally not had a whole lot to do other than user permissions for new sysops has lead to a bit more complacency than you will find on bigger wikis. I really don't understand your if you're talking of gww or what you were referencing. In case you are still confused Vili. -- Wyn User Wynthyst sig icon2.png talk 05:50, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
Kaisha, the two things that make up a wiki are the content and the contributors. Surely every wiki's content is different, or else they'd all be redundant. And you yourself say the people are different. Therefore, every wiki is not in fact the same as you say, but entirely different. Unless there are other secret components that I'm not privy to? Quick Question[edit]

After the winners have been decided, is the first winner allowed to swap with the second winner if they both agree to swapping? I know it's not likely to happen, but if it were to, would it be allowed? I see no reason as to why it wouldn't be, however I just want to make sure. -- My Talk Lacky 08:45, 12 February 2010 (UTC)

I think you are making things too complicated. If someone doesn't want to run a full year they can resign at any time, as unideal as that is. Misery 14:30, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
Eh, just curious. Thanks. =P -- My Talk Lacky 01:35, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Another Quick Question[edit]

This is my first time participating in elections and voting, so forgive my ignorance. Is there a way (without digging through tons of dated and archived data) to determine which candidates would be new to the administrative role they're up for, and which candidates are not new or, for lack of better term, seeking re-election? I'm looking for an answer other than "Just ask them..." Thanks. -Ninjatek 00:48, 14 February 2010 (UTC)

Put the name in Special:Log/rights. Alternatively, I'll just tell you:
Candidates who haven't been bureaucrats before:
  • Balistic
  • Briar
  • Felix Omni (but is a bureaucrat on GuildWiki)
  • Gares Redstorm
  • Kakarot
  • Lacky
  • Loves to Sync
  • Salome
Candidates who have:
  • Auron
  • Gordon Ecker
  • Misery
  • Pling
  • Tanaric
-- pling User Pling sig.png 00:56, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
(Edit conflict) You could look at the user rights log and look for who has been a bureaucrat, but if that still counts as digging then there's not really an easy way. Auron, Gordon, Misery, Pling and Tanaric have all been bureaucrats before, though I believe Tanaric's was due to grandfathering (if I'm wrong feel free to correct me)- everyone else has not been a bureaucrat before. – Emmett 00:59, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
I wasn't aware of the user rights section. Thanks to both of you for the help. -Ninjatek 04:03, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
I was both, actually -- I was a bureaucrat at the inception of GWW and I won an election a year or so after I voluntarily relinquished my grandfathered status. —Tanaric 20:43, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
I recognize some of those names from other Wikis - namely PvX and GuildWiki - where they were (also) poor admins. Surprise, surprise. How is that that someone obtains an administrative role on multiple sites and does a questionable, if not outright shitty job on all of them? I blame the admin userbase, who does a terrible job of regulating themselves, and let the douchebags stick around too long. It's like watching kids cry and argue and spray each other with garden hoses while their house burns down behind them. Good thing for them that they can just hop on over to another site and stir the pot over there. -Ninjatek 22:28, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
As the person responsible for like half the admins (and almost all of the remaining ones), I do hope you're only talking about PvX. Vili 点 User talk:Vili 23:20, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
It's like Marmite. --Frosty User Frosty Frostcharge sig.jpg 23:32, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
I'm not sure how to respond to that, Vili; I believe what I wrote was pretty clear. Are you asking me a question?? My apologies for not quite getting it... -Ninjatek 23:36, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Vili == Entropy. I believe what you wrote was pretty ignorant. King Neoterikos 23:44, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Okay, King. Sorry you feel that way. Did you have a point that you wanted to expand on? -Ninjatek 23:51, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
Who specifically do you have a problem with and why? – Emmett 00:12, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Hey Emmett. I really don't want to engage myself in 3 conversations at once on this page. And I especially don't want to start listing names and grievances. But in an effort to not blow off your question, the short answer is - most of them, and if Vili is responsible for like half of the admins as he clains, then I'd fault him too for doing a shitty job of rounding up his crew and keeping them and their drama and their inter-warring in check. Like I told Auron, admins need to set a good example. Most don't - they just bicker and dick around in their cliques like junior high girls between classes. *shrug* But none of it really affects me anyway. I'm sure that one day I'll get sick of the bullshit here just like I did at GuildWiki and get my update notes and mission maps elsewhere.
Now, with all that said, I do recall seeing Vili ride some ass here and there, and that's great, and I'd like to see more of it. But these Wiki admins - with their cross-domain, multi-site poweruser statuses - they have big heads, and they're all buddies, and as far as I'm concerned, they all need to go. I didn't know that Vili on Guild Wars Wiki was the same as Entropy on GuildWiki. In fact, that might be the missing puzzle piece as to why there are so many cross-site admins and drama. Like fleas hopping from one dog to another, one of them gets a top admin spot, and he brings in all his buddies, his buddies bring their fanboys, and the fanboys bring the bullshit. And if that's the case with Vili, then fuck him for fucking up at least two Guild Wars websites and their respective communities. And if that's not the case with Vili, then more power to him for stomping the necks of his admins when they screw up. But what do I know, I'm not regular or anything. I've only been reading this shit for 5 years. -Ninjatek 00:40, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Enter the PvX crew. --Frosty User Frosty Frostcharge sig.jpg 00:44, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Reporting in. InfestedHydralisk 00:50, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Oh, yeah, the PvX crew. The same people who took advantage of PvX's elitist, bullshit policy by reverting build votes with official reasons like "lol, nub!" and "phail" have no business being admins here. Additionally, some people can go into the office, sit behind a computer, and do truly epic work, but absolutely suck at interacting with the public. The inverse is true as well - and both are true in the case of the Wiki. Good with code? At your PC all the time? Knowledgeable about Guild Wars? Good - be a wiki admin and contribute in the way that suits you best. Suck at talking to people? Always blamming other people? Can't admit to your mistakes? Good - stick to editing trivia notes and leave the system work to people who can handle it without your bullshit. Having a shitty website doesn't deter people from being part of the community. Interacting poorly with and setting a poor example for others does. -Ninjatek 01:06, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Bawwww, you're so right, how didn't anyone see it before, I guess we are all terrible people now! --Frosty User Frosty Frostcharge sig.jpg 01:31, 15 February 2010 (UTC)

Well my third wife did. Not for long though. User Felix Omni Signature.pngelix Omni 06:26, 15 February 2010 (UTC)
Ninjatek - link to a single build where I've removed votes with reasons like "lol, nub" or "phail." A single build. Now is time to provide proof of your claims, because I'm calling that entire paragraph you wrote complete bullshit. You have strong words and nothing to back them up, so as Misery said on your talk page, I simply cannot take you seriously unless you can provide a shred of evidence. Similarly, I would urge others to ignore your posts entirely until such time as you can provide even the slightest bit of proof to any of your claims.
Furthermore, look at the top of the build master page - notice how it's no longer policy? Yeah, that's because I removed the position and demoted all the Build Masters. I left it up to the community to discuss builds, the sysops to police policy violations, and nobody to remove votes with reasons like "lol, nub" or "phail." It was my idea to do so for over a year now (if you don't believe me, ask the sysops - Phen, KJ, misery, etc - I've been contemplating that change for a long time). The community finally caught up with my level of dissatisfaction in Build Masters and called for a change, so I brought my idea to the table and it was implemented. I didn't force it on the community against their wishes, I simply gave it as an option once they themselves decided they wanted a change.
I can tell that you're biased against me, and I know already you will find no proof of your wild claims. I simply ask that, in the future, you keep your baseless accusations and loads of bullshit off talk pages unless you can provide proof of your claims, instead of simply linking to my user page as if that proves anything. -Auron 02:57, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
Just a quick note....gamependium has shut down. It still exists, but they no longer accept builds. Not that they ever had many people using it or updating it or contributing builds other than Quick Shot Needlers, etc, etc. Karate User Karate Jesus KJ for sig.png Jesus 03:25, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
I think Ninjatek just doesn't like the idea that the bureaucrat and sysop powers are concentrated to a relatively small number of people between the 3 different wikis... But you can also say those few people are also people who care the most out of the community to preserve and protect the wikis. I don't see any problems with the same old people getting elected/nominated. --Lania Elderfire 04:58, 16 February 2010 (UTC)
The same old people get nominated because other users like them enough to nominate and vote for them. And for the record, linking to Auron's user page on this wiki doesn't show anything. If I want to look at his user page I can click on his signature or type his name in the address bar.--*Yasmin Parvaneh* User yasmin parvaneh sig.png 21:53, 22 February 2010 (UTC)
